  1. Hi everyone, I'm in search of a Sway Bar for a 1953 Chrysler Windsor Deluxe, or any that will fit that car. Does anyone have one or know where to find one? -Thanks, Tom
  2. Hi everyone, I'm looking for the part number of a DRIVER'S DOOR LATCH to a 1953 Chrysler Windsor Deluxe, to confirm that a latch will fit. I have the car in my shop right now (CRAMPED!!!), and I can't get the door open enough to check the number on my existing latch. Any crossover numbers would be great too. Thanks, Tom
  3. Thanks, I was thinking the same thing; I thought I'd check with you guys before I spent money. -Tom

    Sway Bar

Hi everyone, I just found that my sway bar is broken in two, right at one of the angles. Is it safe to weld this, or should I buy a new one?
  5. Hi everyone, I have a 1953 Chrysler Windsor Deluxe (265 Flathead-Six) that has 65,000 miles on it. I am planning on pulling the engine to replace seals and piston rings, and I'm wondering if I will need to ream the tops of the cylinders with that low of miles. If I do need to, will I be able to use standard size rings, or slightly oversized? Also, If there is anything you think I should know about pulling the engine/crankshaft, please let me know. Thanks, Tom
  6. Hi Frank, I need the actual latch mechanism, not the striker. I tried a 1950 chrysler latch, but the way the outside handle works the latch isn't the same. I probably need a 52,53,or 54 latch. Thanks, Tom
  7. Will the driver's door latch from a '55 Desoto fit a '53 Chrysler Windsor Deluxe? If not, where can I find a '53 latch? I already tried Andy Burnbaum. Thanks, Tom
  8. Thanks Frank. I guess I'll just leave it how it is. That's the best thing to do with an old car anyway. Thanks again, Tom
  9. Hi everyone, I have a 1953 Chrysler Windsor Deluxe, and I have been thinking about how nice an overdrive would be on it. Is is possible to put an overdrive on the M-6 tranny? Will I need a shorter driveshaft? I don't NEED an overdrive, but I figured it would be nicer on the engine. Thanks for any info. -Tom
  10. Hi everyone, I'm in need (or rather my car is in need) of a new latch on the driver's door. I am wondering what years will interchange with that latch. The car is a 1953 Chrysler Windsor Deluxe. Thanks, Tom
  11. Thanks Frank, Yes, I am the Engine-Fed '53. I got that torque converter fixed up just fine, thanks for the help on that. Have fun cruising this summer! -Tom
  12. Hi Frank, I have the Torque converter connected to an M-6 semi-auto tranny. I'm sitting at about 13 MPG right now. (Woo-Hoo!) Thanks for the info, I just wanted to make sure nothing was out of the ordinary. Thanks again, Tom.
  13. Hi there, I was wondering what gas mileage I should be getting with my 1953 Chrysler Windsor Deluxe. It has a 265ci L6. Thanks, Tom.
  14. Thanks for the Walker Number. Still looking for a MoPar number..... Thanks, Tom
  15. Hello, I'm looking for the MoPar part number for the muffler on a 1953 Chrysler Windsor Deluxe (6cyl). Also, what are the applications for #1532791 and #855631? Thanks in advance for any help. -Tom

    clutch

Hi everyone, I have a 1953 Chrysler Windsor DeLuxe with a semi-auto transmission. Last summer, I took apart the clutch, and removed the tranny to fix some seals. When I put everything back together, I could not find a place for a little U-shaped clip on the torque shaft. Everything worked fine for a while, but then the torque shaft slipped off its bearings and blocked the shift linkage. I got under and slipped it back on, but it just keeps coming off. Also, the lift spring is missing from the rear end of the clutch fork push rod. Could this be part of the problem. Also, what is the correct setting for the push rod and overcenter spring? Thanks for any help, Tom

  18. Hey everyone, Is it okay to use NOS piston rings? Will they do their job, or do they get too brittle over the years? Also, Frank, I'm sorry for not responding for so long. I've been quite busy. On the subject of my hot-start, the engine floods when sitting. How can I fix this? Thanks -Tom
  19. Hi, I don't know much...well pretty much nothing about Mustangs, but I do know some about brakes. If the travel is complete free play, try adjusting the master cylinder pushrod. It probably isn't making contact with the MC piston until the pedal is way down, because you say the pedal is very firm. Also, I'd suggest replacing the master, just for safety, because it is probably just as bad as the rest of the system was. Hope this helps, Tom
  20. Hi everyone, What model radio was in the 1953 Chryslers? Thanks, -Tom

  22. Hi Frank, The heat riser is working fine. It looks as if there was never any heat shield on the fuel pump, because I don't see any place to bolt it on. It is so far from the engine (and not directly above any parts) that I don't think the fuel would boil at this point. (By the way, did they run fuel filters back then?) As for the carburetor, it is an E9A1. The only electrical connections on it are the kickdown and dashpot, both for the semi-auto tranny. I looked closely at the exhaust manifold, and I don't see how a choke could even be attached to it. Furthermore, the manifold looks to be built for the integral choke; there is a special area for the "hot air tube" to the choke. Maybe someone switched the manifold and carb before I got it, but the guy I bought the car from said it was all original. My engine number puzzles me though. The car's code is C-60, for the Windsor Deluxe of '53. But my engine number is C53-26466. Does the C53 at the start tell the model code of the car, or am I barking up the wrong tree? Thanks a bundle. -Tom
  23. Hi, Thanks for the help. I'm not using multigrade oil, so I thought the viscosity would change. The 10 lbs. at idle had me worried, but if that's normal, then all right! The hot start seems to be even worse this week, seeing as how the weather is SOOOOOOO hot. I had to crank...and crank... and crank & crank&crank&crank it today to get it fired up in town. I think I might have some water in my fuel as well, because it sputters alot every start (didn't used to sputter at all after a good start-up.) I'm still trying to find out more on the Carter Climatic Control choke, if you have any info. Thanks a bunch. -Tom
  24. Hi everyone, This is probably a stupid question, but hey, I'll ask it. First of all, the car is a '53 Windsor Deluxe (265 L-6) Is it normal to have high oil pressure (70 lbs.) while the engine is cold, then after going down the road at 60mph for about ten minutes, have it gradually drop to about 45 lbs., then stop and have it at 15 when idling? Also, my manual says that the oil pressure should be 40-50 lbs. at 30mph, but it doesn't say when hot or cold, or in what gear, 3rd or 4th. The car has a semi auto (M-6) transmission, and you can easily go 30 in 3rd or 4th gear. Thanks -Tom
  25. Hi, Thanks for the help. I'm still looking for the application of the 1641510. -Tom
