  1. Voodoo, I felt compelled to respond since I recently did a rebuild using Kanter for purchasing the deluxe kit. Although I have a 55 Buick (322-V8), I made sure I found what my machinist needed as far as bearings, piston sizes, etc. and when I purchased through Kanter we went through the list together and I had them repeat everything to confirm the order. Not a single problem and they drop shipped straight to the machine shop. Just thought I would respond with an "I RECOMMEND" for your tally. Best of luck in the rebuild... Kind Regards,
  2. Okay, I'm headed back out there this weekend. As luck would have it, I met someone locally who has same vehicle and is willing to lend a hand. I'll get that vacuum gauge, Jaybird...thanks!!! K
  3. WILLY, You're in the neighborhood...thanks for responding to my post. Yeah, the mechanic said a carb. specialist stopped by the shop and to him it looked like someone used a piece of clotheshanger wire to create one of the mechanisms. I won't know for sure until I go back out there and take another look. Did you catch my note about the other side of fuel pump (radiator side nipple) not having a connection? I'm wondering if there is a vacuum leak, most likely there is but I don't remember the connections...uh-oh.
  4. Well after 6 months, I finally have a rebuilt block and back in the engine compartment...how's that for fast service! I sent out the headers to be ceramic coated and they look great. Overall pleased, but went to pick up the vehicle and it was hard to start. 20-30 minutes later once I DID get it started, it was blowing gray smoke (light-to-medium) and continued to do so as I drove out of the pkg lot. The first couple of times I tried to give it gas, it would cut out immediately. Once I got moving and up to cruising speed, the smoke went away. Could this be a carburetor problem? I dediced to leave the car at the place doing the work. I didn't want to take it off their property without speaking with them and getting them to finalize the work I have already paid for!! Any thoughts on where to start? The mechanic has put everything back in and properly tuned the car, etc. He mentioned it looked as if the carburetor had "rigged" parts and was something beyond what they would touch. I'm wondering if there are other areas I should be concerned with. I noticed there was no hose coming out of the fuel pump (side closest to front of car) and am wondering if that would cause engine to fail at idle or make it difficult to start. P.S. Many thanks to OLD-TANK who I met on this forum. He was nice enough to send a pair of used heads my way for the rebuild...thanks WILLY!
  5. Hey Willy! I saw only one photo but it says 3 attachments. Nice green!! By the way, thanks again for those pair of heads. After the shop cleaned and magnafluxed them, it turned out one of the heads was cracked but the other was a keeper so we went with that one. Engine is complete and painted, I just need to paint some of the accessories (water pump, generator, oil bath, brackets). Any pray that CARS, Inc. provided the right parts I ordered. Talk soon. KEN
  6. Boy have you touched on a sore subject, and one in which I agree with you on. I, among (apparently) many others, have had similar experiences. The attitude is definitely noticeable in their tone and I try to look beyond that. I get the same treatment whenever I go to New York Boston and realize it may not be intentional. But it sure comes across as rude. Simple solution. Boycott CARS. It's your money, go somewhere else and FLEX YOUR POWER. I sure as hell will!! That's the beauty of this country. I've never tried Bob's Automobilia but I guarantee I'll be looking him up next time I need to order. My humble two cents... KEN
  7. HA! Beautiful, it all makes sense now. Because as I peer inside the manifold, I see a tub that runs from one end to another. And on the outside there is a fitting which someone has cut off the insulated tube you must be referring to that should go up to the carburetor. If I want to add this back on, can I get away with stainless tubing or is there a special material? Who sells it? Ok, and one more question. Where does the connection go on the carb? Oh wait!!! I have seen an insulated tube that comes up on the passenger side of carb and has a threaded end on it. If that's it, then I just need to measure and get long enough tubing.
  8. See image below. I just got my headers chromed and further inspection shows a plate which seems to block off a passage. Does anyone know what this is for? Also, it seems to be either spot welded or riveted in place. And apparently not a good job because it is not a complete seal so that air can escape around edges. I guess if I would have caught this earlier, I could have welded shut, but welding now will probably mess up the coating or not even work. I appreciate any help on this, thanks!! KEN
