Got it last nite. Remembered I had couple of headlamps from 36 but larger series and the reflector still attached. Being able to see installation solved the problem. The half moom goes to outside of reflector on back to hold socket in plance and the three bulbs/springs are pushed inside the hole and attach to reflector. Thanks for the reply.

Had the reflector resilvered and ready to install. For the life of me can't figure out how the 3 spring loaded clips on the socket fit or how to get into the reflector. It is a 1936 Buick Special.The socket consists of the three springs with metal ball at end and a 1/2 moon clip. I assume the clip goes thru bottom of reflector and socket below on other side of reflector. Doesn't seem to be sufficient clearance to get the retaining clip to into the reflector and don't want to bend/break. Assume most of GM are same on the 193* era and maybe if someone has photo that would be helpful. Can someone give me direction/instruction? Thanks

Thanks for the reply Grant. On the top of the springs attached to socket for bulb there is a 1/2 moon retaining clip that I can't get thru the reflector. I assume the clip goes on the inside of the reflector with the socket on the outside of the reflector--is that correct? Haven't tried to force with pliers/needlenose as it would appear the only way to get clip/retainer thru hole in relector from back side would be to bend the clip. Just force it in? Perhaps if someone could post photo of how it appears after the light bulb socket is installed on reflector I would be able to understand. Any help appreciated.

Getting ready to install interior and windlace must be attached first. I have no skills re interior and have guy who is to do. He came over and looked at my Hampton Coach materials (bought kit long ago) and was surprised the windlace was in sections and not one piece to go around each of the 4 doors. If someone with finished vehicle would be kind enough to photograph the manner in which the windlace is attached and the joints along floor, above windows, and headliner I would really apprreciate it. interesting--painted body color? Also received a pm and link to 37-38 buick with post showing photos of that model with gravel guard and much the same configuration. If anyone else has in photos would appreciate seeing and any additional info would be appreciated. Thanks

Putting the 36 back together and molding whihc attaches to rear bumper has me stumped. It has ears(3/4" x 2-3") which is held in place by the bolts for the bumper and bumper guard. It fits in between the rear of the vehicle and the bumper itself. Mine was pretty beat up and I need to bend the ears(one hole in them for bumper bolt) and do some pounding on the sheet metal so I can paint and install. I can't determine exactly how this guard is to be positioned. Is above the bumper or does it fit between the bumper and rear of car. Think I could bend arms/ears and have it either place. Haven't seen many where this part survived and would like description/photos as to how it was originally positioned. Thanks in advance.

Anyone know of source for rubber weatherstrip for decklid of a 1936 special. Looked at Steele and didn't find reference and googled and couldn't find source. Have weatherstrip for truck on body but not on declid itself. Suggestions? Thanks

I did find a lens for Chevey altho not identical to ours and not sure it will fit. Made by a guy who is sending a reject free to see if I can heat and make it work. It is not identical to the buick and haven't recieved yet. Website for Dave Garner is at

Good site explains how he makes lens and he works with Polyurethane.
The lens to be provided to me discolored but the idea was to see if I could heat and make work and if so, I would purchase new one. Polyurethane is what he uses for a variety of reproduced parts and would appear to be a viable product for use with the lens. Let me know if I can do more and let me know if you find a glass lens which you would be willing to sell. Thanks and appreciate your willingness to help. That is what makes this hobby enjoyable for all.

Need the clear lens approx 1 inch wide which goes in the tail light assembly and illuminates the license tag. The lens is clear and curved to fit in the bullet like tail light assembly. Don't know of source for reproduction but mine is broken. Need original or source for repro. Any help would be appreicated. Posted on want to buy but thought would post here as well. Thanks

Thanks for response. I pulled the tape off my fenders as underside had been covered for painting and found the brace and no way to use the hole I was looking at. My braces are welded on and appear to be original. I would assume yours were replaced at some point. Appreciate your response and help in answering my question. I've gone to your site on many occasions and used some of your photos for reference. Don't know how often you get a "well don and thanks" but I do appreciate the effort.

Sorry don't take photos or measurements. I am an idiot. I forgot I have sidemounts and the threaded hole I'm referring to must mate with inide of fender and brace for sidemount is I believe just behind this hole. Had this revelation as laying in bed last night. I could still be wrong and if so someone please correct me as I have not taken fender and matched for location but it just makes sense and I don't remeber removing anything from that hole. Of course at my age there are alot of things I don't remember. Thanks for offer and let me know if this doesn't make sense--the sidemount fender attaching with use of threaded hole.

Getting ready to put on fenders and can't identify and don't remember what goes in the hole top left in photo. Behind and above the gas and brake line. There is matching hole on other side and is threaded. Can someone tell me what is supposed to be there? In photo just under the top of the frame rail and beneath the vented engine cover. This is not my car but one I had saved. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the help. Like your idea so the cord doesn't show--I had actually wondered how to tackle that problem. I've ordered the welt from Restoration Specialties and will tackle next weekend.
Curious what you guys have used to punch the holes? I have a punch but not sure it has punch big enough?

Thanks to all--I know to cut the triangle to make it fit just not sure I'm artistic/skilled enough to make it fit and look good. May have to buy some extra length. If there is a best method let me know. Kinda thought I might try to make a pattern out of cardboard.

Getting ready to put fenders on and want to know what source for fender welt and size. Looks like the bead should be 3/16" and width not that important so long as long enough for bolts to go through. Question is really who sells and what looks the best. I will not be painting the fender welt and can't really locate the "replacement". What have you guys used? Thanks

Anyone know the Delco number for the rear shocks on 36 Buick model 40? Is it 1439E and 1439F for the right and left? These are the single action lever shocks? Thanks

Figured it out last nite--the half moon attaches on back of reflector to hold socket in place and the springs with bulb at end fit into reflecor to further hold socket in place.
