  1. If things go right, I hope to get an older Packard in very good running condition. I now have a 1953 Series 2672 that runs, but needs brake work, paint job and a whole lot of chrome work to be presentable. In looking at the PAC directory, there were no 2672's listed. This has me wondering as to the scarcity of the 2672's. If the deal goes through for the other car, I will desperately need the garage space. I would try to find a way to keep the 2672 if its rarity would justify keeping it. Any ideas as to how many were produced? Jim Showers 1921 Stanley 735B Touring 1953 Series 2672 and maybe a 120 owner
  2. Guys, I would appreciate a little help with the value of a 1921 (according to engine #) Model T chassis. I was told it had engine, transmission, axles, radiator, hood steering wheel, 4 wheels, but no rims and possibly the starter. What would a fair price be for such a car? Thanks, Jim Showers 1921 Stanley Touring 1953 Packard Series 2672 Touring Sedan
  3. I think that just about everything sold today is really ugly....that asian look on the SUV wannabees. Many of the cars look like legless cockroaches. The ugliness is even spreading to some of the full size pickups. It makes one appreciate the older vehicles that much more. I guess my tastes just haven't matured with the rest of me. 4. As this is a transfer from one state to another, I am not sure if WV cancel and then let me keep the original title. I have heard about these companies in which you "sell" the car to them giving only the serial number, a records check is done to look for theft and a title is issued in the state in which the company is located and the car is then "sold" back to you. I'm not in a real hurry, as I want to completely redo the brake system on the Packard before transferring the title. Jim Showers
  5. Has anyone had any experience with the various title companies. I have the title dated 1955 for my 1953 Series 2672 Cavalier. I would like to keep this title as it would be nice to frame it and keep it with the car. It is a Maryland title and I am not sure if the owner bought the car new and transferred it to Maryland or was the second owner. I also have the signed certificate from the executor of the estate to transfer the title. Ownership is not a problem because of the above documentation. Mine was free! I happened to look in the glove box and behold there it was. Jim Showers 1921 Stanley 735B 1953 Packard Cavalier
  7. My experience with it has been on the cylinder heads and valve cover head on my steam traction engine. No leaks, boiler pressure is 125psi. I prefer it for that use. I don't know how it would be for exhaust manifold gaskets. Jim Showers 1911 Peerless Traction 1921 Stanley 735B touring 1953 Packard Cavalier
  8. As the Stanley was made operational last spring, I have been enjoying it. Everyone that has ridden in it says don't restore it but keep it original. Now this car came out of a barn 2 1/2 years ago, so you can imagine its condition. I am still working on mechanicals to make it reliable, but plan on driving it as much as work permits. The Packard will be the same way, although I plan on completely going over the brakes with new parts. Both cars will be drivers for a while, before cosmetic restoration begins. 9. Having a Nickle era Stanley, I would have to vote for the 1909 Model Z Stanley, my friend Willis Able has one and it is fast and impressive. Jim Showers
  10. Hal, Being fortunate and broke enough to own a Stanley, I have one of the later condensing cars. They are not as fast as the earlier cars due to the weight (3850#)without fuel and water. My car has not been operational long enough to report how fast it will go. I am guestimating 55-60 mph. I would imagine it could hold a sustained speed of 45-50 mph. I will be able to report on that later this year. All trips so far have been of short duration as we have been working the bugs out of the systems as the car had been in a barn since WWII. It should get about 10mpg on kerosene and 150-200 miles on a tank of water once the condenser is repaired. As there are about 5-600 surviving cars, they are not inexpensive. 11. It sounds as it the vent pipe is plugged up or has a kink in it. The vent line should parallel the filler neck and enter the filler neck somewhere near where the gas cap would attach. Jim Showers 1921 Stanley 735B Touring 1953 Packard Caavalier

    What's a Packard?

In response to the ignition wire question, Packard Electric near Warren, Ohio is a division of GM and makes wiring harnesses. Jim Showers 1921 Stanley 735B touring 1953 Packard Cavalier
  13. Not knowing much about Studebakers, my son has a 1957 2 door Hawk or possibly it is a Golden Hawk that he is parting out. The hood, grill, bumpers and doors are in good shape. Not much can be said about the rest of the body. Glass is all there as is the interior. The drive train is complete, but condition of the engine is unknown. I will have to be his contact, as he is too tight to have a phone...says he doesn't need one. My e-mail is steamcar@hereintown.net Jim Showers 1921 Stanley 735B Touring 1953 Packard Caavalier
  14. Thanks again for the input. I hope the Easamatic master cylinder is available. Car Quest has a listing for brake parts for Packard. I guess I will find out when I go to order this stuff. Jim Showers 1921 Stanley 735B Touring 1953 Packard 2672 Cavalier
  15. Thanks for the input, after I finish fixing fence for the 2nd time today (if any of you have horses, don't ever get a stallion -1000# of testosterone, let alone 2 of them), I will look. The car does have power brakes. Jim Showers 1953 Packard Cavalier: I stand humbly corrected I think old timers disease is starting to set in. I knew it was a name GM used.
