LETS START THIS UP AGAIN ! WHO's GOING and what are you driving??
-
Anyway , to those who care , I flushed the master cylinder after removing the brake light switch , replaced the switch
and I now have THREE brake lights.
Now on to the brake system , which I will open a new thread on.
Thank you Beltfed, for your help ; I originally thought it was a wiring problem.
-
I tried the brakes and the lights lit , then would not work. I came back to it after an hour and they worked, but only
briefly. I just now put a jumper wire on the wires at the back of the master cylinder and the brake lights stay on.
I am convinced that all the "junk" in the master cylinder has affected the brake lite switch.
Tomorrow, on to the brake system.
-
I found the problem , speaking of "juice" . After sitting for six years , my brake fluid has turned to a brown gooey mass, and I'm sure the brake light switch is the problem. Is the any way to "flush this system , or do I need to
remove all four cylinders and the master to do it? The brakes have been working so far ; I removed the front hubs
and there's Plenty of brake shoe.
-
Is the Brake light on a fuse or circuit breaker? I just finished adding a 7 C.P. bulb in each tail lamp for added safety and they work beautifully until I pull on the on the headlight switch to
"parking lamps" . Then the brake lights go out and will not work for awhile.. Too much Juice?

Thanks John !! Those are the ones !!

Anyone know where I can find the tail lamp - to - fender gaskets?
I've seen them on two other cars - Black rubber .

IT'S A DONE DEAL!
-
I do NOT think they are the same. I do have an extra with the gear for an H - V12. It's yours for the cost of shipping.
It's in the hangar where I installed the engine, so I can't get to it until Tuesday.
Mike
It might need a new bushing , as I'm sure I picked the best one for my rebuild.

I will agree that this being the end of May, the 2014 Membership Directory is LATE .
The Last issue of TWOZ was January-February
-
I would highly recommend purchasing the recently updated Index of past issues. It was a huge help for me in
rebuilding my '41 V12 engine (as well as this website) .
-
After much research, AND help from the V8 website,AND Mr. Peecher, what I have is O.K.
My drainplug is set MUCH higher than others, and I'm OK to run like this.
END OF DISCUSSION

I DID quit thinking about it ; this apparently is how MY original Columbia came from the factory.
Sent pics...awaiting reply from Mr. Connelly. This is not the first Lincoln Coliumbia I have seen without
a filler hole on the assembly.
THANKS TO ALL FOR YOUR HELP
Tonite I completed 100 Miles on the rebuilt engine. Time for it's first oil change
-
I agree, if you look at Jeff's and mine, even if I put a drain hole in the part with the lettering, that part would have to be rotated to the next bolt hole to make the level the same as jeff's.
A couple of things I had to look up:
1)This Columbia unit was rebuilt for me in California in 2005 (bullet-proofed"), installed in 2006, and driven AT LEAST 5,000 miles
until the engine was pulled in 2008 to be rebuilt.
2) When I removed the large drain plug , quite a bit of oil came out until it reached the bottom of the hole.
-
Hmm.. looks like I have some work to do . Tomorrow I will thoroughly check this out ; I brought the car
home so I don't have a lift. I'm sure there is no plug or hole there. Possible to put one there?
It definitely would allow more oil.
Jeff - What does your large plug look like??
-
Absolutely perfect! Everything still works, even the radio (and the foot selector).
However, upon the third time shifting into Colombia overdrive , I lost my speedometer. I suspect a broken speedo cable.
Nothin' like the smell of fresh engine paint heatin' up.
37 degrees with the top down is a little cold.
I can find no other filler on the rear axle , which would leave the fill to below the marking on the Columbia side.
HYPOID or NON ???
-
I have just put 30 miles on my rebuilt '41 Engine ; put it on the hoist to lube the car,
and found the rear end leaking. The plug came out by hand and will not tighten ; in fact I can
screw it all the way THROUGH. Should this be a tapered plug?
Also, notice the fill line - Is there another place to fill ?

-
Actually , Dee P. is correct - The serial number is NOT on the engine block , but is stamped into the TRANSMISSION.
There is no serial number on H-V12 Engines. (Maybe Those in the know back then anticipated frequent engine
replacements) ...........?
-
I wondered if the trans was attached during this installation. Cadillac did the same thing in the '40s, and
their hydramatic was a mile long! Quite the feat.
-
The hood IS on!! The chain is supported from an arm that comes from the camera side of the car.
Pretty neat!

I WOULD NOT MISS THE GILMORE!
We'll be leaving on a Friday and returning on Sunday.
900 Miles round trip.
Was last there in June 2006 .
I'll have more room for luggage this trip, as I won't have to pack a case of oil.
I used ALL twelve quarts on the last adventure, and now I have the Columbia installed.
Jim, your intake manifold looks great!
WHO'S GOING TO THE GILMORE IN AUGUST FOR FOUNDATION MEET??

It will be interesting to see : I hope there is at least one more Capri Blue there.
I myself have NO idea if the color on my LC is correct.
Still hoping to make it ; have brake and speedometer problems
