  1. I DROVE my '41 Cabriolet with a freshly rebuilt V12 600 miles to the Museum opening last summer , only to arrive with the clatter of valves. Several people told me about

MMO (Marvel Mystery Oil ) , 4oz. per 10 gallons of gas. I immediately bought some before the return trip . After driving LESS thank 10 miles back to the Hotel , the clatter was GONE.

It has been greatly heralded on the Ford Barn for years ; I am now a true believer.

  2. BEST LINCOLN DRIVING ADVENTURE I'VE EVER HAD

I got to meet a lot of people I've only conversed with by phone or internet.

The museum complex is like no other. Unfortunately on the return trip I missed the express ferry, so we turned it into a tour of the Michigan side of Lake Michigan. Beautiful weather and scenery - we went over the top to Wisconsin via the Mackinac Bridge. 363 miles to the meet and 640 miles back home. Total hours driving : 20 Total oil consumption -0-

I learned a few things (with lots of help from the "gang" that was present):

    1) the generator on my '41 is INDUSTRIAL ; way too large (thanks Earle Brown)

    2) my fan belt was too tight (thank you Bruce Sutherland)

    3) My carburetor settings were way off (Thanks Mssr. Bwatoe)

    4) Yes, a woman can drive a V12

    5) You can go 4 days straight without putting your top up

    6) 12-13 MPG is about all you can expect

    WE HAD A BLAST !!!

  3. Thanks - I am planning to pull all four wheels after the 4th of July . The wheel bearings haven't been looked at

since the Columbia was reinstalled in 2006 . I also noticed that the bearings have "red" grease in them , NOT the recommended Sta-Lube grease for drum brakes. (just going by the Ford Barn forum).

As to the speedometer problem , I removed both cables , the "turtle" on the driveshaft, and the S-W ratio adapter.

The are all on my bench. I repacked the adapter, hooked all cable up and ALL parts are working to the speedometer head.. I have not yet removed the front seat cushion and climbed under the dash.

  4. At first I thought it was cable problems; it worked for about 37 miles with the new engine in the car, then speedometer never moved from 0 . I check both cables ; all okay. The problem must be in the speedometer itself.

As far as the brakes , the front passenger cylinder had leaked a LOT of brake fluid . I rebuilt that and cleaned the shoes up. Now the brakes work much better , but the pedal "pounds" back at a complete stop. I'm thinking that the brake linings might have to be replaced as they were soaked with fluid.
