  1. Thanks Derek. You are correct, it is not a factory set up for '65. It was used on some of the 425 motors in '66. I have heard that the overall gas mileage and performance is better with the Q-Jet and that it is a fairly simple conversion. BTW - I enjoyed your recent post regarding the '54 wagon and the '29 Marquette. You have quite a nice collection! I am particularly fond of the '66 Wildcat and the '52 Roadmaster. My grandmother had a '50 Buick Roadmaster Riviera Deluxe Coupe (power windows and seat). I was not even born when she drove it but I have seen pictures. Your '52 reminded me of her car. Anyway, thanks again for replying to my post. Whenever you have a chance to post the photos is fine. Greg
  2. Hi there Can anyone post a photo of an installed '66 Q-Jet intake? I am converting my '65 Wildcat 401 to '66 Q-Jet. I have the carb and intake. I need to see how the automatic transmission vacuum modulator line, throttle linkage and kickdown/switch pitch hooks up. Unlike the older Rochester, the Q-Jet does not have a port for the tranny line and power brake line. I tried converting this weekend but the supposedly rebuilt Q-Jet carb was not up to par. Anyway, when I did hook it up, the throttle linkage seemed to almost hit the downshift switch. When I put back my old factory set up, I noticed that there is plenty of clearance between the two. Do I need a different throttle linkage? Also, does the vacuum line for the tranny screw directly into the intake or is there a vacuum hose that connects the metal line to the intake?? Mike Middleton and Roberta were kind enough to try and help me earlier. However, Mike's Wildcat is a '63 and does not have the tranny line so I did not have a good reference. I'm trying to do this right the second time! LOL!!! Thanks for your help! Greg
  3. Hi John, Thanks for the reply. I looked in the manual and found a reference for the intake gaskets. The "pointed" ends of the gaskets should point inward toward the center of the motor". I guessed right and installed them correctly. However..... Someone had advised me to install the gaskets "dry". Not always a good idea. Turns out that the rough idle was coming from the intake gaskets. Since I have dual exhausts, I was able to pinpoint the problem to the drivers side of the motor. It idled as if I had a dead cylinder. I removed each spark plug wire and noticed that when I removed the number 8 wire, nothing happened. Replaced the wire (just in case), no change. Then I then remembered an old trick. I squirted 3 in 1 oil around the base of the intake on the left side and found a leak by the number 8 cylinder intake port. I removed the intake and gaskets and used some Indian Head sealer around the head and the gaskets. Worked like a charm!!! Just wish I could have figured it out on Saturday! LOL!   4. These might seem like silly questions but here goes. When installing the intake manifold gaskets - 1) Does the "raised" side of the gaskets face up (toward manifold) or down (toward heads), 2) Do you use gasket sealer If so, what do you recommend? I installed a manifold years ago on a 455. I recall using RTV black but I could be wrong. I just tried installing a Q-Jet manifold today with a supposedly "rebuilt" carb. Let's just say that things did not go well. Have a feeling that it's was not rebuilt properly. Put back the original manifold and carb (Rochester - non Q-Jet) and it seems to be idling rough.   6. Thanks all! The photos give me a pretty good idea how everything is set up. If I can get a similar improvement in MPG I'll take it. At today's gas prices, every bit helps. One last thing. Removing and replacing looks fairly straight forward. Any tricks or pitfalls to look out for?? Also, what gasket sealer did you use? Greg
  7. Thanks Mike. The '66 Q-Jet is pretty rare. Believe it or not the intake already has a Q-Jet on it (numbers matching). I was actually able to pick up a rebuilt one as well. Did you notice a difference in performance when you switched to the Q-Jet?? Greg

  9. I am hoping that someone can help me out. I recently bought a 1966 Quadrajet intake that I intend to put on my 1965 Wildcat 401 with automatic transmission. I am pretty sure that the Quadrajet carburetor for 1966 does not have vacuum ports for the automatic transmission and power brake lines. Can anyone provide photos or describe how these vacuum lines are attached? Thanks! Greg

  11. Hi! Anyone know where I can buy a bracket for the water valve? Looks like the the bracket bolts to the intake manifold (passenger side front). The bracket has an indentation that the water valve rests on. These are found on A/C equipped models. Thanks! Greg
  12. Hi there, I have an annoying squeak that occurs when I back-up. It's definitely coming from the center CV joint. Read the service manual and it lists two adaptors to lube the spline and CV joint (Alemite #327045& 326375). Any idea where I can find these??? Thanks! Greg 1965 - 46467 1965 - 46667

  14. Hi There, Got an esimate of $1800 to re-upholster (?) my front and rear seats (includes replacing the foam, tightening the springs, etc.). A friend of mine that owns a body shop recommeded the interior shop. My questions are: 1) Does this seem reasonable? 2) Does anyone make a pattern for these? The shop says they can duplicate the pattern exactly. Has anyone had this done before?? For another $400 - he will replace the carpet, door panel and kick panel carpet. Thank you! Greg

  19. Beautiful car. Is that Imperial Blue?? I've seen pictures of my grandmother's 1950 Buick Roadmaster Riviera Deluxe. Looks like the same color. Very rare but very nice... Best of luck with it. Like to have one myself someday. Greg

  21. Well, we finally did it. We are now an official Buick household. We just added our third Buick to the driveway. Purchased a 2006 Lucerne about a month ago. Great car. Buick is finally making cars the way they used to! Quiet, powerful, luxurious. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a new sedan. I actually got flagged down by two guys in their early 20's who asked me: " Is that really a Buick?? Nice car dude!!!" It's actually been mistaken for a BMW from far away. Go figure. Anyway, last year, we bought a 2005 Ranier. Another great choice. It's my wife's car and yes, she is now a Buick lover!!! She like the Ranier better than the Acura MDX. Now that says something since her last two cars were Acuras!!! Considering that we are a bit younger than the average Buck owner (we're in our mid 30's), I think it shows that Buick is finally headed in the right direction I've attached a photo of all three. Just wanted to share!!
  22. Keith, I remember seeing your car at the Batavia meet. Beautiful car. Can't beleive you're selling it ! If only I had room.... Did you remove the chrome trim around the trunk edge?? It stands out in my mind since I have seen very few '72's with the trim. Greg
