  1. Bob,

I'm not sure how you ascertined your car is a July '16. But as Vern stated the 4 wire Model 'D' starter/generator was used up to car 90,000 or Sept '16. On that the starter switch would be the rounded aluminum casting mounted on the bell housing. However, a cast Iron floor mount replacement switch was available from N/E if there was a problem early on and could be the case here. I hope this helps.

Attached is the photo of the radiator ornament.

    '28 Vic,

The wings are after market generic rad cap. The wheel part is a authentic Dodge Brothers accessory. It is part number 25603 and was introduced in '25 at car Number A-462367. It is pot metal and most are self destructed and all that remains are the little quarter size DB medallions. I hope this helps.

  3. Guys,

Here's another good reason to belong to the Dodge Brothers Club. Our excellent DBC News editor John Bittence did a 12 part series of articles on DB Approved tools some years ago. I just went back and down loaded 35 pages of info. Part 1 Jun/Jul '96 Questions, part 2 Oct/Nov '96 wrenches& sockets, part 3 Dec/Jan '97 generic tools, part 4 Feb/Mar '97 misc. tools, part 5 Apr/May '97 wheel/hub/rim, part 6 Aug/Sep '97 jacks, part 7 Oct/Nov '97 tire pumps, part 8 Feb/Mar '98 grease/oil, part 9 Apr/May '98 ign/horn, part 10 Apr/May '99 14-27 tool bag, part 11 Apr/May '00 '28 and up tool bag, part 12 Apr/May '00 starting cranks. So get a CD of DBC News back issues and check it out.

  4. Coryvette,

Sorry to be so tardy with this response. The pix of your 'Fast-4' engine would use a coil mounted behind the dash in back of a key lock which would operate a switch incorporated in the coil. There were two different styles of this coil. One was a more transformer looking unit in a pot metal case. the second 'later' unit was a more traditional looking coil (with switch) on a metal flange that still mounted on three points. Hwellens bottom pix would be that one. His top pix was used on a earelier 'D' engine that had the distributor on the right front corner and there would be a boss on the head where that coil was mounted. Unfortunately Dodge Brothers went through 5 different engine designs from '26 to '28. It gets very confusing and frequently one needs to go by serial number for what is correct. By the way, the coil pix with the x through it was used on '29 DA and later 30s cars. The ignition switch lock was incorpporated in the coil as opposed to the 4's and Standard 6s which had a lock assy separate from the coil that simply operated the coil's built in switch mechanically. I hope this helps.

  5. Joe, and other 'Brothers',

I apologise for not keeping regular attention to this site but am curious why no one has mentioned (regarding the floorboards) that there is a curved metal piece that seems to be missing on his car that goes between the horizontal floor boards and around the back of the tranny that meets the angular toeboards. It is about 3" / 4" and would explain the space missing in his photos. I would also agree with others in that Joe should join the DBC and check the roster for others with similar models to go look for himself.

  6. Guys,

I seem to recall seeing somewhere in this someone looking for door check straps for Std 6 or DA/ Anyway, I have found sometimes looking 'outside the box' so to speak things are available. Check Snyder's Antique Auto parts. Yes, they are suppliers of parts for FORD cars. Check their P/N A-162592-T and A-162592-S. They also do custom seat springs. I had the curved one made for my Cabriolet rumble seat. Excellent work and reasonable. Keep 'em Dodgin'

  7. Guys,

We are all saddened by the untimely demise of the original Roy Brister and reminded of the fleeting of life. I understand there is to be a 'Celebration of Life' this Sat. in Batesville at 11:00 AM. Anyone so inclined would send a rememberence to the Hayes Truck Museum in Calif. This was Roy's favorite institution.

Having spoken to Roy Jr. I understand he intends to continue filling orders and running the business. They have many new parts coming in and a soon-to-be website.

Let us all keep Roy in our hearts and minds and wish Roy Jr. all the best and Keep 'em Dodgin'.

  8. Guys,

Sorry to be so tardy with this response. I have in fact been compiling data regarding these items. The top saddles were purchased from Auto Specialities Mfg. in St. Joseph, Mi. The trade name BAIR was used by them in sales. They made maleable castings for most of the automotive trade. In the beginning top saddles were equipped with all open cars. They were made redundent in '24 and were furnished on request (at additional cost). What I have so far in Dodge Brothers is '15 - '19 touring was 140-L / 140-R. '15 - '19 roadster was 171-L / 171-R. After '19 roadster both sides used 191. '20 - '23 touring used 418 both sides. '24 - '26 touring used 314-L / 314-R. Not certain how the Gilliam name came into play. Possibly they bought patent rights and nomenclature from Auto Specialties? I hope this helps.
