  1. I knew about the Aquada 5 years ago. It is a very cool "Boat with wheels". Technically it really isn't an amphibious car. I say that because it has no top, no doors and no side windows, just like a boat. If it had these things, I would say it meets the definition of an amphibious car. They also try to claim that "No amphibious car ever went faster than 7 knots" This is not true, several have been able to 25+ on the water. None went into production.

But a cooler true amphibious car is from a company here in the USA called the Water Car based on a camaro platform. I'm real excited about this one!

  2. Hands down it is definately my Amphicar. It is way fun, but a slug none the less! It is geared soooo low that if I start out in 1st, by the time I cross the intersection, I'm in 2nd, and by the time I hit 35 MPH I am into 4th! They are rated to do a 45 deg. incline in 1st!

I saw a "performance" study on them. I believe the had the 0-60 listed at 43 seconds!

  3. Now that was racing!

    Seat? - Check <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

    Wheels? - Check <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

    Chassis? - Check <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

    Engine? - Check <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

    Brakes? .... maybe <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

    Safty equipment? ... HUH? <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Those guys had brass ones (not lamps!) for sure!

  4. There are too many people getting cheap with the tiedowns. WHy would anyone use cheap tiedowns for a $50000+ car?

One guy on his way through Chicago last year with an Amphicar on an open trailer behind his motorhome got VERY lucky in spite of his mistakes.

    (On 95 in Chicago) He looks in the rear view camera ... MMM Amphicar! <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> .... looks again ... MMM Amphicar! <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />.... looks again .... OH SH*T! No Amphicar!! <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

He had only a small strap at the front and 2 small straps on the rear and no safetys . The car rolled backwards off the trailer at 65MPH! Here is the cool (read LUCKY!) part. When he hitchhiked back to find the car (or what was left). it was there sitting in the middle lane, only a scratch from the strap hitting the 1/4 panel waiting for him. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" /> The rear straps had wrapped around the drive axels, slowing it to a stop, straight and true. He had to cut the straps off the axels while traffic is driving around him in I-95 which is an extremely busy hiway.

I believe he did learn from his mistakes. I have a strap at each wheel, a safty chain to the front, and another to the rear. All my straps are rated for 4 times my cars weight.

  5. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Where any KK's eaten? </div></div>

Sorry Sal no KK's were present! Only Rocky Mountain Oysters and cheeseburgers were injured in the making of this meeting! <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> However the topics of conversation went from politics, religion, KK doughnuts, archeology, race, and of course, automobiles!

It was a nice way to spend an afternoon, placing faces to the names. Good people to be sure! <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> I was the only one to drive my clas... err I mean "old" car. Howard was leaving for parts beyond so he left his at home. Randall's car had electrical problems so it was also left at home. Ahhh, the fun of owning older cars! <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

  6. I used to know a guy who totaled his first car (no idea any more what it was), then kept it for some time before realizing there was no saving it. He had it crushed into a block, lowered into his basement (while they were building it) and is a rather heavy table never to leave!

  7. My Dad used to do it (He gone now). He learned it himself from books and LOTS of experimenting with colors and techniques. If you have the time, get the tools (very inexpensive) and spend a few hours playing with technique and colors. It really isn't that hard depending on what grain you intend to do.

    How cool would it be to say those words that impress me the most "I did it myself"? <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Carlton, Lemme see some pictures! Lately I have been loving some of the old restored trailers and boats I've been seeing. There was a guy at ashow recently that had a '38 Chevy 1/2 Ton and a '62 (?) Scotty camper, both were bee-you-tee-full!

    Like these combos...

  9. I had my Amphi in her first real sanctioned car show (they are "on

show" always anyway) last Saturday. She was a hit! I answered all the

same questions and loved all the laughs and smiles around her. It was

fun to sit back and pretend to not be the owner. The comments people

    say are funny!

At the award part of the show I hear them announce my name! WOO HOO!

I won a 1st place in the "Special Interest" category! I was against a

34 Auburn Boat tail, a late 30's Mercedes and many custom rods. I had

never won a trophy for anything before and now I have a big 2' trophy

    on the shelf.

The show also raised almost $1000 in donations for the troops from a

local Army base (Fort Carson) to use for what ever they need. Oddly

enough, they need disposable diapers. Why? They fill them with water

to place on their heads, under the helmet to help keep cool.

    SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!

  10. The way I understand it is your car would be a akin to a parts car because it is not functional, uncertain how much is there and disassembled. from a 1 (lowest) to 10 scale I would <span style="font-weight: bold">[color:"red"]GUESS </span> it to be a 1 or 2. Keep in mind I am no expert, just an opinion.

  11. GREAT! I live in Berthoud and I was going to go to the show at the Flatirons mall off 36 and Church Ranch road that day. I may be able to hit both with the Amphicar. There are not enough GOOD shows around here.

Last one I entered was a farse. The dumass self appointed "judge" was opening doors, rubbing the paint (he said he was looking for imperfections AHHHHH!!!) <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />, he even had a camera around his neck that would hit the car as he bent over to look inside. The prizes were cheap plastic carnival glasses! <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />
