OK Riviera People: If this were a good running car 16K would certainly kill 2 things. The car would sell and there wouldn't be any drama about the car. Mitch

OK Riviera People: How 'bout the radio delete plate in this one? Custom, no a/c, no power windows. The first one a 64 Riv, the next one...64 Le Sabre with a/c. Ya never know what's gonna pop up for sale! Mitch

OK CTX: Let me know when you want to hook up. I'm always around. The green 63 has been for sale for a long time. Mitch
-
OK CTX: Stop by the house and I'll show you the assembly I have removed from the car. Still interested in those interior components too! Thanks, Mitch.
-
OK Johnny: That Astro Blue one? If it's a Custom interior with no power windows I'd be interested in the door panels! I'm in the 94552. Thanks, Mitch

OK Riviera People: I have thousands of First-Gen Riviera parts I've accumulated from years of trolling for what we troll for. I decided to post an add on Craig's List for First-Gen Riv stuff. I began around this time last year and when my post is up I get 1-3 calls per week. There is a good market for parts!
Most people are looking for 65 stuff and the rest 64 and 63. I DO NOT SHIP because I'm retired, I'm lazy and I am not in business. If I were in business and I did hustle and ship I could probably build things up to perhaps 3-4 grand a week in gross sales. The jewelry is the lion's share of requests...cathedrals, horn bar, center arm rest, horns, etc. There is some demand for small trim pieces. Except for hoods, good sheet metal is a slow mover.
There are several West Coast guys hustling Riviera parts. I can name a half-dozen right off the top of my head They've been doing it longer than me and hustle more too.
To this package of Rivieras.... With what I have (MINUS THE SKILLED LABOR) I could have put most of these back together. Alas, Mama says, no more cars and that killed that. haha
I believe the majority of all these cars are what I call "shelf cars". A shelf car is one not quite ready for a shave an-a-haircut today but sooner than later it will be a most worthy candidate. I often mention 59 4867s and 59 Cad converts in the early 90s. Not worth putting together then. Today they would need to be really far gone to break one up.
Contrary to what anyone says, there is a great market for the right collector cars in various conditions too. Rivieras are the right collector car and I believe that the purchasers of these cars will do just fine. I only wish it were me! Mitch

OK Buick People: I checked out the article and the pictures of the cars.
Good: Lots of old Buicks and lots of mud for making mud pies for guys like myself.
Bad: Most of the cars are really rough. This auction is now getting tons of publicity. There will be many many people attending and many legit buyers. The prices? I'm afraid that they will be at the top of the market. If one were to catch something slipping in between the cracks they'd be more than lucky.
I'm not attending so I won't be a threat to people who want to get cars cheap. I wish I were in a position to purchase the entire estate...but I'm not! Mitch

OK Riviera People: I've done this on 5 cars so far. Here's my drill....1
1. Douse the surround moldings with WD-40, remove moldings with the proper tool.
2. Clean the channel as good as possible, remove the back glass with the proper tool.
3. Clean every thing in the channel down to as close to bare metal as possible and THEN evaluate the situation.
4. Repair as decided. Make sure the clips are even, uniform and the mounting studs are solid.
5. Re-install the glass. Use either the tape or the Window Weld gobbledy goop.
6. Do an immaculate job.
7. Re-attach the moldings.
The reason I suggest doing an immaculate job is because I have never reinstalled these rear windshield surrounds. That's what got us into trouble in the first place, a pool of water that can't drain, dry or go anywhere...except to rust and wick through the entire body fueling the Tin Worm Armies. OH...Yes, I've taken a ton of flack about it from everyone! Mitch

OK Joe: If it ain't runnin' and drivin' it's worthless. Do not assume anything. Personally I like a 63. 401/open dynaflow is a good ol Bu. I like junk...a lot. I happen to give this body style, a 4 door hardtop more love than a 64-72 GM A body coupe but.....it is what it is. The really scary part is to get this car to where it's a reliable driver, even with a good motor and transmission...is mucho denaro. Mitch
-
OK Arthur: Remove the dash cap and you'll see the mounting post underneath the part that covers the instrument cluster asssembly . Looking square at the speedometer it's about over 120. Mitch
-
OK Buick People: Next to world peace and my wife's cookin' this package might be the most fun in the past who knows how many years!
I want, I want, Mitch

OK Joe: If you are gonna make a play for it MAKE SURE IT RUNS!!!! It's worthless if dead. If it were here and I got it for a hun or two I could gamble on the motor running because I have a couple of dead 63 Rivieras that would perk up nicely with a good 63 Le Sabre drive train.
Assume it runs? If you can get it for a hun or two, it's worth the gamble otherwise you will be makin' mud pies for a long time, spending a lot of money on it and still have a hunk of junk....oh yes, and having not much fun either. Mitch
-
OK Bryan: I think you're optimistic. I believe this 63 Le Sabre 4 door ht is at best a $500. car not running. Running great? Maybe $1,750. I think it would be worth decent dough if it were a really nice piece...which includes a reliable driver. Mitch

OK Jeff: Where ya been? Mitch
-
OK John: On the center cap plastic pieces. The silver Tri-Shield have 3 detentes on the back, corresponding to the male side so they are in alignment. Nothing worse than a medallion cock eyed on the spinner. haha The R plastic centers have a single detente locking the medallion only correctly in place in the spinner. Mitch
-
OK John: I have taken apart hundreds of these things. The flat black? I use S E M satin. Looks great and it's a quality product, pricey though. Patience, the plastic center pieces are around. They are not that rare nor that pricey. Mitch
-
OK John: I own more than a few old Bu's. I can say for certain that the rims on most of the cars I have were/are mis-matched in some way or another. It's incredible how things got that way. Anyway, due to the same set of circumstances I think the 15" wire caps on the 63-66 Buicks are no different.
I'm in Castro Valley and I have a posting on Craig's List (or PM me) if you need to get a hold of me. I might be able to dial you in in some way or another. Mitch

OK Riviera People: Remember, these people market the living daylights out of the cars they sell. Much much much less on the street, or even ebay for that matter.. Mitch
-
OK Jason: This is contrary to my ranting of scientific diagnosis. Try a fresh set of points. Every time I get that stupid backfire in the muff and it won't start I begin with spark at the points. So far? So good! Cheap, easy, you'll need 'em sooner than later anyway. Mitch
-
OK Arnulfo: Right you are. What was I missing? I'll tell 'ya. I didn't really look at each posting and jumped the gun. Mistake 4,637 in my life.
I know the market is higher for a GS but what are people thinking? The GS is not that much better.
Mitch

OK Riviera People: Someone has been either dreaming or makin' mud pies... Buys a rust bucket with no carbs from New Jersey, sends it to So. Cal and expects to flip it. Am I missin' something here? Mitch
-
OK Tom: Definitely an interesting car due to the fact that the finished product could be sharp. Black, saddle buckets and a/c.
A suggestion if I may. Put it on the ebay with no reserve. The market will tell you what it will pay. I know it will sell for the right price. Unfortunately, I believe it's dramatically less than where you're at. Good luck, Mitch.
-
OK Chris: I concur with the "put a known working gauge on it" . The gauge won't lie. I certainly hope you won't need to take it apart again. Good luck, Mitch

OK Buick People: I got a thrill ride....and I mean A THRILL RIDE!!!! in a fresh 2016 HellCat last week. The owner was really getting the hang of all the computerized gadgets and was getting the groove of how the car performs. I have a friend who has the '16 ScatPack. That i drove. The extra HP of the HC over the SP is incredible.
I have been in a handful fast cars and this HellCat was not only super fast it had real manners too. I had a smile on my face and was giggling the rest of thew afternoon. I'm tellin' ya!
BTW......BOTH owners had old Bu's. The HC owner had a 65 Riv, the SP owner, a 60 Electra. Mitch
