1. Thanks, which manuals did you use to do that? I can't seem to figure out how to do the match. - Al
2. Hi, I have a big pile of NOS parts that I can't figure out how to identify. I'm fairly sure they are for post war cars and I do have a number of parts manuals. Each part has at least one part number stamped on it. However I can't seem to find the numbers in any of the manuals! Is there some sort of IQ test going on here that I'm failing? Perhaps I don't have a comlete set of manuals? Any suggestions? thanks, Al Here are a few examples of what I'm trying to identify: Body Trim or running board trim: 1-396415 1-389885 441648 441559-8 413215 Rocker Panels 391921 391920 424193 Factory Head Gaskets: MC6225 354427 Group 5.0701 Emergency Brake Cables 316030 237192 316589
3. RM is selling this particular car at their Biltmore Auction later in the month. I believe the estimate is 65 to 75k. AL
4. To be run Friday night at Hershey Auction 1953 Packard Carribean, Full cosmetic and mechanical refresh. Finished in Powder blue with blue and white interior, this convertible has an automatic transmission with power steering, windows and top. It is a solid rust-free car with very nice paint, interior, chrome and mechanics. Mileage of 61,500 is believed to be correct. Everything works and the car drives exceptionally well. Reserve is very very reasonable - this car will sell.
5. The auction is nolonger at the lodge but at the arena and is now a 4 day affair. Got to http://www.blackhawkcollection.com/ or probably a better idea, go to www.kruse.com as they are running the auction for Don Williams and Richie Clyne. Al
6. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you buy your car at auction? This is always tough as you don't get to drive the car first which would show quite a few of the issues you mention. Many of the Duesenberg Chronographs where replaced with fakes over the years. You can tell because the minute counter on the stopwatch will not function. A real one will show the edges of the other numbers around the zero, and the fake ones usually just show a zero (and won't turn). I'm always amazed that this is not picked up during judging. At Auburn this year I would say 25% were not original. If your chronograph is a replacement one and you would like a correct one I can put you in touch with a source for a 100% correct unit. regards, Al
7. My father's 1940 180 Darrin which he bought in 1954 or so has a tach in the glove box. Also I've seen a packard glove box tach in museum display somewhere that I can' recall.
Al
8. Hi Christian,
The 350k I believe is what RM (see rmcars.com) is asking for a DV32 Dual Cowl which is about the most desirable body you can get. I think there was only 2 or 3 made. This car was in Arizona in January where it didn't sell but is super nice. Your car is a four door sedan (although with custom body work) which will not bring as much money. Also, from the pictures the car probably needs re-restoration which on a car that size can run real money. A couple of years a go a dv32 super bearcat sold for around 230k unrestored, but again that is a really desirable body. Last August a DV32 Bearcat Speedster got a top bid of 110k at Bonhams and Brooks but did not sell. A year ago a 4 door sedan (close in appearnce to your car) failed to sell at Bridgehampton with a top bid of 25k which was 1/2 the low estimate.
Al
9. If you buy a premium subscription to Sports Car Market http://www.sportscarmarket.com/ you can get in to their database over the web, it will tell you if this car has been through any auctions in the last 10 years or so. I think the database is really accurate for the last 5 or so.
10. Interested in any part or original literature. Especially interested in fuel pump or pieces, fuel system valves, rear shocks. Contact me at alsancle@townisp.com
thanks, Al
