1. I live in West Texas. We have very little rain. It rained about 2 weeks ago and my 90 coupe was driven in it. I have no water leaks.
The trunk lock/release/solonoid started lock/releasing spontaneously about every 4 seconds. (Check recent posts on "trunk release problem".)
The only way to stop it was to remove the trunk release relay.
I replaced relays and fuses. Barney said my car was possessed!!
I gave the car 48 hours of scientific neglect and put the old relay in and no more problems! Don't know why it did that, but other posts have had similar problems.
Maybe Barney was right-these cars are possessed when they get wet! Not much help on your problem.
  2. I can answer my own questions!!
The original reservoir has an indentation for the cross brace. The rebuilt does not.
Will change out the reservoirs, but need to clean the black deposits out of the old reservoir.
What would be good to clean out the reservoir? Nothing seems to dissolve the deposit in the old reservoir!
Any suggestions?
  3. I installed a remanufactured Prior system on my 90 coupe. Installation went fine but when I went to install the cross brace between the strut towers the brace hits the top of the plastic reservoir!???
There were no shims or washers on the old unit. It bolts to the fire wall with the 4 nuts under the dash.
Questions:
1. Why would the rebuilt unit set up about .75 inch higher at the reservoir than the old unit? (Can't bolt the cross brace down).
2. How much space between the cross brace and the top of the reservoir? (Somebody please measure).
3. Any suggestions?

    greetings

Go to: http://www.reatta.net/ Brakes - and do the test as Walley suggested.
Do a search here for the tape player/cassette problem. There have been numerous posts and a repair manual post.

  5. 90 coupe, 68k miles. Flushed brake system 40 days ago.
On start up in morning for 1 or 2 braking the car pulls slightly to left. This has occurred about 3 times. Rest of day ok. No other problems noted.
The Reatta brake test results:
Test 1. Average = 10. Mine = 1 for yellow, 2 for red.
Test 2. Average = 28. Mine = 25.
Test 3. Average = 32. Mine = 45 (Red and Yellow the same).
Test 4. Average = 45-50. Mine 48
Test 5. Average = 2.5 to 3. Mine = 1.
Test 6. Average = .5 inch. Mine = .75 inch.
With ignition on - applying brake slightly causes the pump to come on for about 2-4 seconds.(Pump sound like it builds up pressure)
With the ignition on, applying brake hard will cause yellow ABS light to come on and it will go out in about a second. Pump runs for about 2-4 seconds.
I suspect I need a an accumulator and what else??
Would I be better off to convert to a non ABS system as Skip and Coop did?
Or buy a rebuilt system from Prior? Or repair the present system?
Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.

  6.
Thanks for all the advice.
I gave the trunk release/lock a dose of "scientific neglect" (48 hours) and plugged the old relay in and everything works fine!!
It also stopped raining??
Interesting note: I was listening to the radio on my Walkman, AM station when I was checking everything out. When I started to insert the key into the trunk release/lock it would make static in the radio? Static would occur every time I touched the key to the trunk lock! Didn't do it on FM station?
I'm confused - I have a rope in my hand and I don't know if I lost my mule or found a rope?
Thanks again.
  7. Barney (and everybody else),
I agree with you, my 90 is possessed?
Not ready to sign over the title -- yet!
I have fuses #17, #2, and #3 all removed and when I put the new relay in, the trunk lid solonoid/latch starts cycling!! (battery is out of the remote).
How is that possible with all of the fuses removed?
Suggestions/advice??
Thanks.

  8. Barney,
Pulled fuse #17 - problem still present.
Pulled fuse #2 - problem still present.
Pulled fuse #3 - problem still present.
Removed battery from remote - problem still present.
(Remote works door locks correctly).
Any suggestions/advice? Thanks.

9. Barney,
I found the relay (there are 5 relays on the block) 3 of them are the same. I removed the one that controls the trunk release and replace it with one of the other relays. Did not stop the automatic lock/unlock problem! Don't think it was the relay!
On doing a search I found other posts that had similar problem. Some had problems after a rain!
It rained for the first time in 5 months here in west Texas (1 inch) today and then I had the problem!! Just a coincidence?
You think the problem is in the trunk key lock or in the glove box lock?
Any suggestions? Thanks.
10. The trunk/lid release on my 90 Reatta has started unlocking/releasing/locking automatically about every 6 seconds! The remote control, the key release on the rear and the trunk release button in the glove box have no control over it.
I disconnected the wire going to solonoid lock to stop it.
Is there a trunk lock relay or some other relay that is stuck? If so where is the relay?
Any advice/suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.
  11. Sound like the "clanking" noise is coming from the rear brakes. My 90 does it. You can check by driving on a rough surface and applying the brakes lightly. The noise should stop if it is the rear brake pads. Also you can kick the rear tires and make the noise occur. Previous posts have explained the reason for the rear brake pad "annoying" noise.
  12. I have notice Padgett and others state their instant/average MPG. Does my 90 Reatta have that ability? If so how do I get these reading? Or is it just on the 88-89?
  13. I was able to get the hose off the bottom of the reservoir.
Used a gallon zip loc plastic bag to catch the fluid because of the cramped space. Worked fine. Didn't spill any.
  14. What is the correct way to "flush" the brake system on a Reatta?
Is there a way to get the old fluid out of the wheel calipers?

    Calipers

Are the rear calipers on a 90 Reatta interchangeable with the front?
GM dealership said that the left front would interchange with the right rear?
Auto parts house say they are different!!
Who is correct?
  16. Recently got an extra key for a 90 Reatta. Cost $17 at a local locksmith. Make sure the new key works before you leave the shop!
  17. Add me to your list. Thank you. marq.hellman@ttu.edu
  18. Has anyone tried the hydrocarbon refrigerants? These are a combination of propane and isobutane. They operate on less head pressure and take only 30 - 40% the amount of R 12 and are compatible with the refrigerant oil. I have not used in my Reatta yet, but have in other vehicles.
  19. Ol' yeller, you saved me some $. Installed the 92 Grand Am front license plate bracket with minor modification and it looks good. Thanks a bunch.
  20. What is the procedure to remove the glass (mirror) from the motor mechanism on the outside review mirror?
  21. I bought my 90 coupe 30 days ago for 6000. It had 61k and is in excellent shape. They were asking over 8000 for it but they needed to to sell. I got an excellent deal! Price depends on how bad someone needs to sell and how bad someone wants to buy!
  22. I just received the 90 "Preliminary" Service Manual. Is there much difference between it and the "Final" version? Do you think I should get the "final" version? I do all my own repair work. Not worried about the drive train, but concerned about the electronics etc in the "Preliminary" service manual.
  23. 90 Reatta windows seem to move slow in comparison to other vehicles I have. Is this normal for Reattas? Any suggestions?
  24. What the $ for the 1992 Grand AM front license plate holder? How does it look installed?
