Average Age?

Bought 90 Coupe in June 2001.
I'm 57 (I do the work on it) my daughter (she does the driving) is 21 so I guess the average for this one is 37!!
JM Hellman
  3. Reattaboy, your right. It is usually sand from New Mexico that causes all our problems in West Texas!
J Hellman
  4. 90 coupe.
Fan speed will not change (stuck on low), cannot adjust the temperature (stuck on 80) and auto button does not work.
When I try to enter diagnostics by pushing Temp and Off button nothing happens?
Is this a loose connection behind the controls?
How do I get to the controls to clean or replugged in?
What is the P/N for the controller if all else fails?
Thanks.

J Hellman
  5. I have had problems with the trunk lid solonoid cycling after the car has been wet. I usually disconnect at the solonoid or remove the relay. After a week to 10 days of neglect I hook it back up and it is OK!!
I believe the problem occurs in the key lock switch (maybe getting moisture in it. The next time I have the problem I will disconnect the key lock switch in the trunk (Barney is there an easy way to do that?)and see if that is the source of the problem. I also keep the car out of rain which is not difficult to do in this area.
J Hellman
  6. Mine went on a 90.
Had to drill holes in the new holder at the top to match the holes in the car bumper.
I trimed the new holder 2 bottom brackets ("U" shape) so they are flat for approximately 1.5 inch. This must be done to slip the bracket between the grill and the bumper. It helps if you remove the grill.
Attach the new holder at the top to the bumper (2 bolts) and then drill 2 holes for the bottom (flat trimmed) brackets into the bumper and I attached the bottom brackets with pop rivets.
The Gran Am holder will have a little space where it does not conform to the curve in the Reatta bumper!
Hope this helps.

J Hellman

    Lost my HubCap

Bought one from GM Parts direct and it was fine.

J Hellman
  8. The original front license plate holder are pretty expensive when you can find them. I got one for a 1992 Grand AM. I think the part number was 2255-1295 bracket F. With minor modifications it works fine. It will take an expert to tell it is not original! Cost about $16.

J. Hellman
  9. Need brake light switch part # for a 90?
J Hellman
  10. What is part # for the brake light switch??
I need to replace mine.

J Hellman
  11. Mine does the same thing! Brake lights stay on every now and then!! Tried pulling up on the brake pedal and jiggling it. Haven't had to disconnect the battery yet, but if that fixes it, it would be faster than what I been doing??
J Hellman
  12. Do the Reatta brake test.
I put the Prior rebuilt system on my 90 coupe this past November.
Would recommend the total Prior rebuilt system over replacing parts to your original.
Prior P/N is 4600134.
Cost 403.95 plus $100 core.
Shipping $10.01.
J M H
13. How to get to the amber globes.
Remove the Signal Lens.
(4) 7mm Head screws hold the lens in place. These screws can be reached with a 7mm socket on a 12" ¼ drive extension. It may be easier to remove if the front of the car is safely raised but is not mandatory.
Remove bulbs from Lens.
Disassemble the Lens.
Remove the T-15 torx screws that hold the metal trim to the lens.
Remove (2) metal clips holding the lens halves together.
Using a razor knife cut along the seal that holds the halves together. Run
the knife along the seal several times while pulling it apart slowly and
straight out (not up or down).
This should get you to the globes. The plastic housing that holds the bulbs is easily cracked/broken because it is brittle.(Speaking from experience)
Should be able to remove the globes and the metal clip that secures the globes.
Reassemble
Make sure there is no moisture or fingerprints on the inside of the lens.
Using black strip caulk or RTV sealers apply a bead around the inside lens-mating surface. Black or gray is recommended for cosmetic reasons (gray is the stock sealer color).
Slowly push the parts together.
Put on the 2 metal clips that held the lens together.
Cut or clean off any excess sealer on the outside of the lens.
Install metal lens trim with the T-15 torx screws
Install and plug in the other bulbs and sockets in the lens.
Test bulbs by turning on parking lights and turn signal.
Reinstall lens onto car using (4) 7mm screws
Hope this works. I replaced my broken globes this way.
14. Question - why do you want to remove the amber globe? I just went through the process of replacing an amber globe. The amber globe will break if you do not remove the bulb correctly. You can remove the bulb and take a screw driver into the socket and break the amber globe. You will have the amber pieces in the lens. The globes are pretty fragile!!
  15. Did all Reattas have the gap in the pin/paint stripe on the door?
My 90 coupe does not!! Didn't think mine was repainted, but now I am wondering??

    Texas Reattas

There are at least 5 in Lubbock. There may be more, but I have seen these on the streets.
  17. Bryon,
Been there - done that - don't have the T-shirt yet!
I started having problems with the brake system on my 90 coupe. I ran the Reatta brake tests and decided it would be easier and faster to replace the system with a PRIOR remanufactured unit.
It is not that hard to install-follow the information at brake info at reatta.net and do a search here on Teves antilock brakes.
Prior Remanufacturing
P.O. Box 462167
Garland TX 75046-2167
PRIOR phone # 800-444-4821
P/N 4600134
Cost $403.95
3 year or 36k mile warranty.
I installed my unit on Thanksgiving afternoon and the brakes are working fine.
If you have any question I will be glad to answer them - e-mail me.

18. Chris,
Did you ever solve/fix your trunk problem? As an engineer you could design a set of pulleys and some cable to make a mechanical release through the trunk access door!! I might need the design the next time mine acts up!
Hope you got yours fixed.
  19. I need the parking/turn signal light assembly for a 90 Reatta. Front right side(passenger side).
Are they still available?
GM part number?
Afraid to ask the cost!
Any used ones out there?
Thanks.
20. I had a 74 GMC Sprint. I wish I still had it.
I never saw or heard of one by Oldsmobile.
  21. Chris,
I replaced the trunk/lid relay and checked all the fuses that were suggested. Nothing solved the problem. (Still possessed)!
It was suggested that it could be the remote keyless entry module! (Which I didn't want to replace).
I waited a couple more days before I was going to get into finding the problem. I thought there must be a short or bare wire under the relay box located on the right rear fender in the trunk. Before I started tearing in to the wiring, I plugged in the new relay again and it solved the problem. (The same relay that 2 days earlier did not solve the problem).
I tried the old original relay and it worked too-no more problem! Unpossessed!!
The car was in the rain for the first time since I bought it and that is when the problem started occuring! Other posts state similar occurrences with the rain/water!
It has been over a month now and no problems. All the original fuses and relays are still being used!
BTW, I (57 year old jelly belly and butter butt) did get good at reaching/crawling through the trunk access door to open the lid when I had the solonoid/relay disconnected.
22. Chris,
I had same problem with my 90.
Has the car been in the rain/water?
Had suggestions from many including Barney and Padgett.
Do a search on "Trunk Release Problem?" Date was 11-14-2001.
You will see what I did to fix the problem!!
5 days of scientific neglect fixed my problem!
This solution has worked with others!!

23. Not a Reatta question.
Have a 97 Chevy PU with the 350 vortec engine.
Is there a way to cancel/reset the "service engine soon" light w/o taking it to the dealer?
Thanks.
24. Put the Prior rebuilt ABS on my 90 coupe on turkey day.
The most difficult part for me was getting my jelly belly and butter butt under the dash to get the pedal unhooked and the 4 mounting nuts off.
Took me about 3 hours, but I watched a lot of football while doing the job!
The rebuilt system came with a reservoir that did not fit under the cross brace. (Reattas must have had 2 different shaped reservoirs) Just switched out the reservoirs. Flushed and bled the system and everything is fine.
All test went back in average range.
Would recommend the total Prior rebuilt system over replacing parts to your original.

Prior P/N is 4600134.
Cost 403.95 plus $100 core.
Shipping $10.01.
Phone # 800-444-4821.
