Harry was close, it was the harmonic balancer. The metal part where the woodruff key goes was cracked and it turned on the crank, just enough to throw the timing off. When i replaced the balancer about a year ago i must not have tighten it tight enough. Thank to all, you saved me some down time. grm

When i started out, i could push the gas pedal down and it had no power. When i let off the accelerator it died and hasn?t started since. I checked an it was getting spark from the plugs. It also back fires when cranking. Thanks grm

My 88 Reatta died! When i started off it was real sluggish and no power. As i made a turn on an upgrade the car stalled and has not started since. Any subjection? 1. Shows no codes 2. Can hear the fuel pump running 3. Turns over Thanks grm

Can?t seem to find the head light hi/lo relay so i can do this test I have a manual but can?t seem to locate position (Pull hi-lo headlight relay (E), and jumper pins 1 and 4 of the relay socket) also need to locate the fuel pump relay. Any help appreciated. Grm
-
barney when you say E position do you mean the relays by the breather? when i take them out it turns off the parking lights one on the left and the other relay turns off the right blinker. yhanks grm

Driving my 88 the other night i started to smell a burnt smell, it ended up being my head light switch. It also melted the connector wires (didn?t burn through) i replaced the switch but my headlights don?t raise or come on. The lights will raise and retract with switch on consol but headlights still won't come on. When i turn on the head light switch and use the hi /lo lever you hear the normal click but still no hi or low lights. Any subjections will be appreciated. grm

you don't need a new seat, you just need to adjust the catch. you can find the procedure in the shop manual. grm

I just replaced my timing chain, gears, and damper. Also had to replace harmonic balancer. Here are a few things to consider. It is a little easier if you remove the right wheel and inspection cover, you might have to use heat to get the large harmonic balancer bolt to loosen, i tried everything from bumping the starter to an impact wrench before it came loose. I finally loosened it by putting cotton rope in one cylinder so the motor wouldn't turn as i was removing the bolt with a large breaker bar and a piece of pipe. When putting back the timing chain cover you need to align the oil pump gear (i used a small screw driver to move so it would align up on crank) as you are installing the cover try to pull the cover upward so the oil pan gasket doesn?t get hung up or you will have to drop the oil pan to fix the gasket problem.

harry, if i understand you right, all you have to do is do a vacuum and replace the dryer, add new oil and freon when converting from r12 to 134a? thanks grm
-
when you say flush the system, what do you you use? ( chemical ) If you pull the system down with a vacuum does that remove most of the oil from the compresser or do you have to remove the compresser? thanks grm

i used aircraft paint remover from autozone, just spray on and let sit until clear coat blisters, then wash of with pressure washer. make sure you take your center caps off first. the stripper eats the plastic centers. I ruined 4 centers because i didn't read first. grm

as for your transmisson leak, just replaced mine and found that the biggest leak was the filler tube seal, you might want to check it out. try cleaning everything then use some kind of powder ( baby powder ) then look for the leak. hope this will help. grm
