  3. No bands...there will be music though. If you don't mind the track manager shooting at you with a high-powered rifle for breaking into his track, you are free to take your chances...but I will deny all knowledge, and will not call the ambulance after he shoots you. If "Bud" is short for "Budweiser," then yes, by all means bring him. You can bring any of Bud's close friends, too--Bob Blatz, Charlie Miller, Adolf Coors...heck, invite Jim, Jack and the Walker Boys, too (Johnny, Blackie and Red). It's kind of out in the country, so you might get lucky and spot some Wild Turkeys, or Old Crows. -Brad

  7. Finally finally finally! I've found a '54-'56 6-bolt trans. It's close (only two states away!), it's complete, and it's cheap. I'm getting the complete set-up, and want to replace the 5-bolt manual trans currently in my '54 Special. Well actually, I want to replace the 5-bolt trans currently on the floor of my shop, because it's broke. Anybody happen to know if the transmissions are the same length, or am I going to go through all kinds of hassles shortening the driveshaft and torque tube? I know they used a different bellhousing, clutch/pressure plate, but if I have this right, they were behind the 322 in the Century and Super...the Century shared the Special chassis, so I'm really hoping they also shared the manual-trans torque tube length. Anybody? Thanks Brad

  18. I found a '70 buick Electra with Posi: is that going to be the same as other GM 12-bolt Posi units? Is it worth the hassle of removing the carrier in a junkyard? Brad
  19. I found a '70 Electra at the Pull-a-part. According to the original invoice in the car (yes, it's a shame, but Pull-a-part won't sell the whole car) it's got 6-way power seat (upholstery is bad on driver's side), power windows, remote mirror, Posi traction, Electric Trunk and vanity mirror on passenger side visor. I've already gotten the visors out of it, and they're for sale here (pretty much just want what I got in them--they were REALLY nice). I'll probably go back for the Posi, and possibly the electric trunk. Is the power seat stuff worth the hassle? (Meaning, does anyone here NEED it, and I'll get it, otherwise I can't justify the shop floor space it'll take up) Brad
  20. I was at the pull-a-part today, and there was a brown '70 Electra. The clock said 87,000 miles, and I think that was original. I wasn't going to get anything off the car, but I saw the sun visors and they were PERFECT...and easy to get. They're brown vinyle with a velour-like insert (factory). I doubt they were ever even put down. The passenger side has a vanity mirror fixed to it, with Buick is a Beauty Too in the upper corner. I was actually kinda surprised that they charged me $10 each for them, plus tax, but I figured someone here could use them so I got them. $25, plus shipping. -Brad
  21. Moultrie is many times bigger. My show is a once-a-month deal, every month, so I don't have the big "professional" vendors that hit the regional circuit. Yet. I've been doing it for two years, and it grows a little bigger each month. There is a good mix of parts--hot rod, resto, muscle car, early stuff and race parts. Last month I had two new tool vendors there, and there's almost always a lady who sells shop uniform clothes (pants, shirts and shop jackets). She does a KILLER business! You pays your money, you takes your chances! But I'll tell you this, too: my daily driver is a '62 Suburban: you don't typically see a bunch of stuff for '60-'66 Chevy trucks at a swap meet. I've gotten a rust free front fender, original steel wheels, and a pair of doors. Some of the stuff was there that day, some of it was at a guys house who I struck up a conversation wtih. Never underestimate the power of networking at a swap meet! Brad

  24. Time once again for the North East Georgia Swap Meet! This Sunday, November 5. Should be good, especially if the wiring in the Suburban doesn't fry itself before then. The temperature has sorted itself out, and the word is still spreading--every month I'm seeing new vendors with new treasure. Vendor set-up is 7am, gates open to the public at 8:30. Spaces are 20 x 25, or 10 x 50 so you don't have to drop your trailer. First space is $20, each additional space is $10 Cars for sale: $15 Spectator Admission: $3 I-85 to Exit 129/Hwy 53 West on Hwy 53 4.5 Miles on the Right Hand Side at Lanier National Speedway, directly across the street from Road Atlanta. -Brad
  25. I've had Mopar parts dealers say "Are there any people up there with Mopars? When there are, I'll start coming up." And of course, I have Mopar buyers saying "Are there any Mopar parts sellers? I'll start coming up when there are." That sounds completely made up, but man, it's the honest truth. It's like the old "Looking to hire people with experience" deal...if nobody hires you to begin with, how do you get experience?! Same with Ford guys, though now I've finally gotten some Ford vendors to come out, and they're selling Ford parts as more Ford enthusiasts show up. Plus, it's a great place to find stuff that vendor's might not have brought. I've gotten four factory steel wheels and a rust free front fender for my '62 Suburban, and they weren't at the show. Just got to talking to somebody who had something that would fit '60-'66 Chevy trucks, and he said "I've got those at home..." That happens a lot to guys. Also had one guy looking specifically for a '50s or '60s driver-quality car. Something clean, that needs a little work. He wasn't terribly picky, but preferred a Ford. The two months before there was a '58 Ford 300 2dr that was PERFECT for him. Don't know how that one turned out yet. It's a swap meet--sometimes you find chicken, sometimes feathers. As it keeps growing though, the chickens become a little more plentiful. -Brad
