Picture of a horrible highway accident in Germany. The picture may be kind of hard to take. If you look closely you can see what appear to be some survivors of the accident still in the wreckage. Although the picture is quite graphic, it makes you realize how quickly our loved ones can be taken from us. This is really gut wrenching so I will not openly display it here. If you have a strong stomach and can handle it you can open the attachment on your own. </div></div> Oh the humanity! The horror! I've got lap belts from Year One in my '62 Suburban daily driver, and I'd really like to get some 3-point harness for the front seats...it's a knee-knocker cab with a teeth-breaker dash. (The cab has a wrap-around windhshield like, much like a '54 Buick, and where the windshield frame wraps around is exposed when you open the door--and it's right at knee level when you get in. The dash is solid steel baby! With a cowl that looks like the '54 gauge area, on both sides of the dash. Solid steel baby! The lap belts I have are with the plain latches, like on an airplane. They look period-correct, if you're not hanging around a bunch of concours purists. 98-percent of the people who see the vehicle will never think "Geez, those aren't the right seat belts!" Best part is, they were really innexpensive, even without my employee discount. Shoulder harnesses would keep me from messing up my face, but my big concern is always getting thrown from the vehicle. In the car you've got a chance...your skull doesn't have much chance against a tree, rock, fence post, gaurd rail or a concrete road. -Brad

  5. No bands...there will be music though. If you don't mind the track manager shooting at you with a high-powered rifle for breaking into his track, you are free to take your chances...but I will deny all knowledge, and will not call the ambulance after he shoots you. If "Bud" is short for "Budweiser," then yes, by all means bring him. You can bring any of Bud's close friends, too--Bob Blatz, Charlie Miller, Adolf Coors...heck, invite Jim, Jack and the Walker Boys, too (Johnny, Blackie and Red). It's kind of out in the country, so you might get lucky and spot some Wild Turkeys, or Old Crows. -Brad

  9. Finally finally finally! I've found a '54-'56 6-bolt trans. It's close (only two states away!), it's complete, and it's cheap. I'm getting the complete set-up, and want to replace the 5-bolt manual trans currently in my '54 Special. Well actually, I want to replace the 5-bolt trans currently on the floor of my shop, because it's broke. Anybody happen to know if the transmissions are the same length, or am I going to go through all kinds of hassles shortening the driveshaft and torque tube? I know they used a different bellhousing, clutch/pressure plate, but if I have this right, they were behind the 322 in the Century and Super...the Century shared the Special chassis, so I'm really hoping they also shared the manual-trans torque tube length. Anybody? Thanks Brad

  20. I found a '70 buick Electra with Posi: is that going to be the same as other GM 12-bolt Posi units? Is it worth the hassle of removing the carrier in a junkyard? Brad
  21. I found a '70 Electra at the Pull-a-part. According to the original invoice in the car (yes, it's a shame, but Pull-a-part won't sell the whole car) it's got 6-way power seat (upholstery is bad on driver's side), power windows, remote mirror, Posi traction, Electric Trunk and vanity mirror on passenger side visor. I've already gotten the visors out of it, and they're for sale here (pretty much just want what I got in them--they were REALLY nice). I'll probably go back for the Posi, and possibly the electric trunk. Is the power seat stuff worth the hassle? (Meaning, does anyone here NEED it, and I'll get it, otherwise I can't justify the shop floor space it'll take up) Brad
  22. I was at the pull-a-part today, and there was a brown '70 Electra. The clock said 87,000 miles, and I think that was original. I wasn't going to get anything off the car, but I saw the sun visors and they were PERFECT...and easy to get. They're brown vinyle with a velour-like insert (factory). I doubt they were ever even put down. The passenger side has a vanity mirror fixed to it, with Buick is a Beauty Too in the upper corner. I was actually kinda surprised that they charged me $10 each for them, plus tax, but I figured someone here could use them so I got them. $25, plus shipping. -Brad
  23. Moultrie is many times bigger. My show is a once-a-month deal, every month, so I don't have the big "professional" vendors that hit the regional circuit. Yet. I've been doing it for two years, and it grows a little bigger each month. There is a good mix of parts--hot rod, resto, muscle car, early stuff and race parts. Last month I had two new tool vendors there, and there's almost always a lady who sells shop uniform clothes (pants, shirts and shop jackets). She does a KILLER business! You pays your money, you takes your chances! But I'll tell you this, too: my daily driver is a '62 Suburban: you don't typically see a bunch of stuff for '60-'66 Chevy trucks at a swap meet. I've gotten a rust free front fender, original steel wheels, and a pair of doors. Some of the stuff was there that day, some of it was at a guys house who I struck up a conversation wtih. Never underestimate the power of networking at a swap meet! Brad
