  1. Dick,

You need a copy of Antique Automobile , the April/May

1971. It has an article by Dave Chambers that has a lot

info you need, including the dimentions and how to find the orig blueprints for the trunk. the gas tank is special

for the 55 only and is 22 gals. you will have to make a new one, the speedo is Van Sicklen with clock, Cad used a similar one, but the mounting and glass are different, Buick uses 3 tabs and Cad uses 2. The tail light and cowl lights have 2 rings, I'll check about the headlights.

  2. Tom ,

This engine uses cast iron pistons with wide soft iron rings. The rings are probably worn out, to replace, you will have to change the pistons to alum. and use a modern ring, do not use a chrome ring on this soft cast block.

The pistons are removable from the bottom, without removing the crank.

    Good Luck,

  3. Hi, I bought a new Tempest Sprint in 1966 but mine was a 2 dr coupe, not a Lemans, 4speed positraction and power steering I think I paid $2800, things have changed!! It was a great car

and a lot of fun, used to surprise many 289 Mustangs, after a little fender bender, I replaced the hood with one from a GTO,

it looked great, color was marina tourquise and I think the int.was green , bench seat in front. A lot of great memories, still remember the exhaust sound, like no other American car.

  4. The 16 thru 23 engines are all similar and look the same, exposed valve gear till 18, cylhead and cylinders cast as one piece, splash lube system. 1924 all 6's had a detatchable cyl head and those engines evolved till 1930. The 6cyl chassis is quite different the the 4, 6 cyl rear springs are cantilever with torque tube drive. No parts are interchangeable, everything is bigger on a 6, models 44,45,and 46 are 118" wheelbase, models 48,49,50, and the sport models of 22&23 are 124". I think the 6 is a better road car.

    Hope that helps,

  5. Ryan,

Don't replace wires yet, first check if you have spark at the coil by opening the points with a screwdriver.

If you you don't get a spark at the coil, but get arcing at the points when you open them, then the cond. is prob.ng

Have you checked for 6volts at the coil + term ???

Also sounds like you don't have to replace coil or wires yet.

    Condensers can fail just sitting.

  8. I see in your first post you replaced the condenser, that my be the problem. A condenser that has not be charged for a long time will some times fail when used the first time.

Reinstall the original one and try again. When replacing points it is not necessary to replace the cond. only if it is defective. Good luck.

  9. Scott,

Sent you a pm, will send some pics tonight.

Packard 12's are nice, worked with Tom Mix's cars

for a few years. 41 Super 8's were his favorite, but a couple of 12's were in the group as well as his 734 Speedster,

    a great car!!
