  5. I have purchased a tilt column for my 1966 Cutlass. It looks terrible, may or may not be as bad as it looks. My question is; Is there someone that can look, "fix, restore, this column? I have been fortunate in the past, a fellow named Randy Johnson worked on one for me, it was great. But he has quit doing them. Please contact me if you have any information. dadphelps@yahoo.com I could also use a set of nice levers for this column. Tilt lever, turn signal lever, and shift lever. Thanks, Mike Phelps

  12. I need a set of these "chrome clips" to hold the stainless trim around the convertible top well. I don't see them listed in any catalog, I have CARS and Year One catalogs. 64 & 65 are listed, not 67. Does anyone know where these can be bought? Are they interchangeable with other makes / years, I haven't seen one? Thanks, Mike dadphelps@yahoo.com
  13. Car is a GS Clone. Red with dove interior and top, bench seat with armrest. For those who don't know the color Buick called "Dove" in 67, it is off white, similar to a light parchment without metallic. Legendary Interiors made me a new top boot and sun visors, they match great. A rust free, never had any, California car, with ALL GS particular parts added years ago. Never hit or damaged. ALL history and paper with this car. Original sales receipt. A file full of receipts for parts and labor. Original California black plates and registration documents. Rebuilt 430 engine and 400 turbo, 342 posi. Interior is original and way too good to replace. New carpet. Much too much new stuff to list here. It needs nothing. It is sharp and dependable, recent 2000 mile road trip, drive anywhere. It is very well detailed and shows well. Not Pebble Beach, but it looks great. I have pictures to send via email, but they are too large file size to post one. I really love this car, but have found another I will pursue if this one sells. Boys must trade their toys. Please call for information, I am not good at email. Call between 3 and 8 pm eastern time please. I have it priced well below the price of building another like it. Eighteen thousand dollars. 14. I have a 66 Cutlass. It takes the same radiator as your 68. I just replaced the radiator, because I didn't change my antifreeze, it ate the radiator up. Anyway. I went to my local radiator repair shop, a man who has always been in the radiator business now 60 years old, with my radiator in hand and asked what was available as a replacement. I told him I would as soon have an aluminum one. He says "That is the same radiator as in your truck, so an aluminum one is easily available." He knew by seeing it in my hand, didn't have to look it up in a catalog. My truck is a 94 Chevy 4X4 with a 350 engine. We ordered a radiator for my truck with a transmission cooler, but not an oil cooler, it fit perfectly. I changed nothing. The only difference is in the hose nipples. The truck has 1&1/2 inch on bottom and 1&1/4 inch on top. My car had 1&3/4 on bottom and 1&1/2 on top. They make a "sleeve" that fits over the nipples on the radiator to make up the space, so I bought original replacement hoses, used the sleeves on the nipples, and it is great!!! The radiator is aluminum with plastic tanks, it also has a nipple for a heater hose, but came with a plug for it in case you don't need to use the heater hose nipple. It cost me $186.00, including tax. Having too much antifreeze in the system is bad for cooling. Since my cars stay inside during cold weather I only keep them protected to about "0". Year One tech advisor recommended no more than 30% antifreeze mixture. He also says a 15lb cap is best. Also a lean carburetor condition contributes to hot running engines. I also have a 67 Buick GS 400, it ran pretty warm, over 200, last year. These tips, and adding a thermostat (160) have cooled it way down this year. Last year I hadn't checked for a thermostat, it only had a restrictor ring, no thermostat. Good luck, Mike
  15. I have a nice hood and a nice grille as well. What part of the country are you in? email me direct dadphelps@yahoo.com
  16. My motor manual calls for most engines(it lists 8 different 455's) to be 8 degrees at 850rpm. The others call for 12 degrees. Vista cruiser is 10 degrees. My bet is 8.
  17. I have a nice running 330 in my car, but it is getting a little smokey, and I have a couple of 455's. One is a '76 I think, in a "98" body. The other is a '69 also in a "98" body. The 69 has F block and E heads. I was wondering what the in's and out's are with this swap. Is cooling going to be a problem? Motor mounts? Exhaust? I would prefer cast manifolds. What cam and intake? The '69 engine is 10.25 compression, too much for todays gas, how do I get it to a streetable ratio? Will my Jetaway with switch pitch converter hold up to the added horses? I have 400 tubos, but I like the switch pitch. I am aware that 400 switch pitch trans are out there, I have one, but plan to use it in another car, I dont figure I'll find another, but would very much like to have another one. Does anyone make headers that really fit, no pounding, prying, bashing, swearing, REALLY FIT? Thanks, Mike Phelps dadphelps@yahoo.com
  18. Bruce Roe called me and explained all about his switch to control the switch pitch converter. He uses a timer activated by the brake light switch. You hook into the neutral side of the switch, as on a brake controller for trailer brakes. When the timer is activated, you have all the time the brake lights are on ( sitting at a traffic light, or getting in gear & taking off), then 14 seconds after you release the brake of high stall, enough to shift trans into high gear, then the timer goes off, the converter goes into low stall. (That sounds like an interior light timer to me). But he also uses a vacum monitoring switch. As you drive, if the vacum goes down very low, as when accelerating or going up hill, the timer is activated, and another 14 seconds of high stall is initated. There is no provision for passing gear kick down, he recommends a 400 turbo kickdown which GM uses, that mounts under the dash and works with the accelerator pedal. Although with high stall initated, passin gear might be overkill for the situation. I now use my brake light switch on my vehicles equipped with a lock-up converter, to "unlock" the converter when it pulls down too far to suit me. Bruces approach seems pretty simple, and effective. I know he spent a lot of time figuring this out. and I applaud his inventive skills. He gets $155.00, plus shipping for his "box". He is a very knowledgeable about the 400 turbo trans also, and is easy to talk to, and seems like a great guy, willing to help any way he can, even if you dont buy a box. I am still working on the problem. I have contacted the "carb doctor" about a carb for this car, so I can get rid of the Holley, and my geometery problem I have with my linkage. My original switch may be useable yet. I am now armed with much, much more knowledge about what is going on with my car. THANKS to all who have helped, it is great to have people around who will "do for others". If not for this forum, I would still be lost, saying "I have got to fix this someday". Now, I will get this fixed. It has been eating at me for 7 years, but an end is now in sight!! I appreciate it, Mike
  19. ANYONE HAVE ONE? IT NEED NOT BE GOOD. IT DOESN'T EVEN NEED TO BE REBUILDABLE. I NEED THE THROTLE SHAFT WITH THE ORIGINAL LINKAGE HOOK-UP ON THE DRIVER SIDE, FOR AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.(JETAWAY WITH SWITCH PITCH) THANKS, MIKE dadphelps@yahoo.com
