Well, fellow 70 Electra survivor! I would not recommend the modification, especially if one day- you decide to show the car.
What you can do is a temporary setup. A lot of places sell a plug-in-and-remove CD player for under the seat. It's like the remove-able CB Radios that had a quick disconnect plug. I'd say that this kind of rig wouldn't be a big deal with the judges.
There is a place that sells CD Radio mods with classic car front faces on them.
Basically it depends on your plans. If it's a show car as well as a fun car- do the temporary thing.
Good luck- but work with the wife. They have to put up with it, and it's so much easier if they're involved in the hobby and help with the restoration.
70 Electra Convertible: AACA, TRAACA, HCC OF PA, RROC.

I need a window cam-scissors assembly for a 70 Electra convertible, for the LH driver's door.
Also- how the heck does the thing come out and go back in? has anyone tried this one yet? I seem to be breaking a lot of new ground in my car this year!
Email: jaxops@bellatlantic.net

Thanks from here also! I thought that it had to do with the body style.

COCNUR with 72. I had the same problem with my 70 Electra, and it needed a high-speed fan clutch, and a good cleanout of the radiator.
Keep on steaming (that is, keeping it "underway") that car!
-
Just an idea, but it could be your AC-HEATER fan hitting the gasket, or dirt inside the housing. Does the ticking happen in the dash or can you tell?

I don't have all of the links, but try:
1) GM Aftermarket:http://www.acdelco.com/parts/1220c_set.htm
2) Your local junk yard.
3) newer car parts finder:http://www.findmycarpart.com/locate.asp
4) CARS: http://www.buick-parts.com/
Good luck!

Well spoken Dave!
Cut back as you can. I've been buying Citgo and even Racetrack (uuuugghhh, I know). I've had to boost it up a few times, but other than that it's alright, and running 10 cents (notice that we don't have "cent symbols" on computer keyboards?) less than the big companies.
Good luck to all this summer!

Now THAT will be interesting. There was a joke in the 6th grade about matching up an elephant with something ridiculous and getting soemthing hilarious.
I'm waiting for an American car company to start remaking a station wagon (no, not the Euro-Japan Tarus either).
Well, when you're used to driving class, it's hard to not be critical of the sloping bubbles and monster trucks that everyone is driving.

My father, when "babysitting" my 70 Electra, installed a "parade fan" on the radiator to help cool it. This yurned out to be a workaround when it really needed a new fan clutch and to have the cooling system cleaned out.
Anyway, it wasn't truly effective, and really made a mess of my radiator fins. I had to saw it off after the bolts rusted in place.
I'm glad that it's gone!

I have to concur with the group on that also. Removing it is another problem all together. It involves modifying your system and your belts as well. Just letting it ride along is the easiest and least expensive alternative.
I'm slowly acquiring parts to replace my AC system, and the compressor, which has not been properly "compressing" doesn't cause any problem to stay on the car, whether engaged or not.

My 70 Electra washer motor does the same thing, and now it just sits there quietly (dead?). My wiper motor and washer pump are all connected. I don't think that they come apart. I haven't gotten around to coughing up the money for a new assembly, so I may live with the dead washer a while longer.
Removing the assembly was easy, but the trick is to disconnect the wiper transmission arm without letting it drop down into the firewall. Other than that it was a "breeze" (right!).
I got a chuckle out of the "easy to fix" comment. I don't often have that kind of luck.
If anyone has some ideas let me know.

Here's my 1970 Electra Custom Classic Convertible. My friends at Historical Car Club of Pennsylvania have a great site, where you can post the car's history as well.
http://www.spokenwheel.com/p92.htm
"...forbidden doughnuts, mmmmmmm" (Homer Simpson)
The last notation made me think of that!

I'd have to say that the '59/60 have a great impact, the '67 has great lines 9and was very popular), but my favorite (biased of course) is the 1970.

If you're still looking, my father is a Cadillac dealer, and numerous parts left over from the 1960s and 1970s. Email me and I'll send you his fax number.

Can't argue with success. The Buick Forum is "clicking along." I am enjoying the cross-over AACA has with BCA. It's great that the forums are linked this way. Thank you all who made this possible!

I have lookied on in amazement, watching car-folk "wolf down" those Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Those things make my teeth hurt. Since they are "mummified' in sugar, they probably would last through a whole old-car tour!
They certainly have a loyal following. I just watch from the sidelines now!

Just another note to thank you for the assistance. The woodgrain piece was NOS, and perfect. It really cleans up the dash- and was a long time in coming.

I have a set of 4 headlight bezels for a 70 Electra or 70 LeSabre. They are in Good condition with a few pits. Not show quality, but solid pieces. Email me for pricing and pics if required. jaxops@bellatlantic.net.

I have a set of 4 LeSabre full wheel covers for a 69 or 70 LeSabre. They are shiny chrome with the 3-shield centers in VG-excellent condition. Serious inquiries only for pictures. $25 ea or all 4 for $85.00. Shipping would be about $12.00 in CONUS.

I need the window assy scissors and cam assembly for the left front driver's door on the 70 Electra. I do not need the window motor. How much do you want for it?
jaxops@bellatlantic.net
Well, my prediction is:
1) The oil companies have been trying to get us to $2.00/gallon for years. They're slowly getting us used to higher prices.
2) A lot of those SUV trucks will start disappearing from the roads being used as daily "cars."
3)This is the same mularkey (even more contrived) than the so-called oil crisis of 1977.
4) Some consumers want to boycott EXXON & MOBIL so that they will force prices down across the board.
I'd say that the "rat-b's" have got us good, and they know it. In the South especially, we've paved over the rails and discounted public transportation.....now we pay.
I don't know if boycotting will help, but riding together to work, and cutting out little runs to the store certainly will cut down the costs (buy your food for 2 weeks, instead of shopping for your dinner that night- (a California thing)).
The counter-argument is that we've had it better than Europe for years and years. I say "foosh" to that. As collector car owners, we're some of your most dedicated customers. Let the lobbying begin!!!

Get a copy of CARS & PARTS Magazine, or Hemmings Motor News. Most good book stores have them. There are a number of dealers in antique bumpers.

I would try Buick farm. I bought my NOS switch for my 70 Electra there.
http://www.buickfarm.com/index2.asp
WANTED: 70 ELECTRA WINDOW CAM

Jim,
I expect that it would mess up the sale of the whole doot if I bought only the cam-scissors- but let me know if you'd consider it.
(LH Front- 70 Electra)
