  1. The engine will shut down around 30 mph at times and will restart. It seem the more you drive it the more it happens. Park it for a few days and all is well until it starts shutting down again and the condition worsens to where it will not restart. Replace ICM, coil pack, E CM and mass air flow. We are looking at the Crank sensor now. I have car at very good professional shop now and it has not been resolved. I could use some help here and thanks in advance. PS: no set codes

  3. I have not been able find the information on the company that will recover the steering wheels. I believe Barney Eaton knows the contact and if you mention that Barney referred you they give you a 10% discount. I have used the search engine with no luck. I believe the cost is around $ 200.00. Thank You Gary Frank
  4. I managed to use a long skinny screwdriver and unlatch the lock and now need a new lock-latch assembly. Has this happen to others or am I the first as usual. Thanks Gary Frank
  5. 90 Coupe: The driver?s side door will not open. The good news is that the door panel was already off. I have removed every part that I can without opening the door and have determined that the plastic arm that the opening linkage lifts up has broken off. I am at a loss and have not a clue what to do now. Maybe there is a secret that someone can share with me. The car has anew paint job and carpet, if this would have happened with the door panels on, well I don?t want to think about it. If I remove the rear interior panels can I unloosen the latch post from the frame.
  6. I have a 1990 reatta coupe, and i was wondering where you got those item to increase your horsepower? thanks.
  7. Just curious if there are other Reatta owners with similar family traditions. My Father-in Law has a 90 Blue Cov, I have a 90 Red Conv and my son has a 90 Red Coupe which we just had painted and replaced the carpet with new. If the Blue Conv ever makes it up from Florida, it would make a nice family picture. They are listed on the data base. Gary Frank

    Running Hot

Padgett I would like to know if you would be willing to burn a PROM and what cost would be involed. My 90 conv always runns too hot in the summer with the AC on. Fans and relays all work fine with 65K and well maintained. My Riv's do not have this problem and PROM would seem to be the reason. Thank You Gary Frank
  9. Let me restate my question. The right door gasket has an additional rubber strip with adhesive tape on it that the left gasket does not have. Did they make an enhancement or is this not the correct gasket. I have attached a picture. The part number on the box is 03527107, this may be a 91 year gasket. Thanks for any help send this way. Thank You <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Gary Frank
  10. 1990 Coupe ? passenger door gasket is different than driver side. I purchased a new right side door gasket about a year ago from my GM Dealer and the car is being painted now. I purchased a used driver side from Jim and noticed that the new gasket has an additional attached side piece with adhesive tape on it. I do not have the car here now to see if will match and or fit properly. My question is did they improve the gasket design or is the right gasket different in design than the left side. Thank you Gary Frank
  11. I am having my sons 90 coupe repainted and wanted to know if the rear right Reatta emblem is just glued on or does it have retainer clips behind it. I paid 1,750.00 for the car and it was intended to be a parts car. But then he drove it, it out runs my 90 Conv and 92 Riv. The auto body guy wants 2,500.00 to deal with about 6 dents and do a nice paint job. This seems quite expensive but I have not paid to have a care painted in a while. Thank You Gary Frank
  12. I have 2 1990 Reattas they seem to always lose their battery charge after sitting for a while. I sold my 90 Riv to a friend and his also sits a garage and the battery is always dead when he wants to drive it. Does anyone know how long a new fully charged battery should hold its charge in these cars. My 92 Riv is a daily driver and never has this problem.
  13. All turn signals are working and fuse No.7 is good. I am leed to belive that there is a seperate set of contacts in the turn signal unit that is just for cornering lamps. Is that trure Thak You
  14. I am repairing my sons 90 Coupe headlights and front parking lights. I have the entire headlight assemblies out and have removed the parking light units for cleaning and bulb replacement. The cornering bulbs are good but do not light. I have searched the subject and it seems the main contacts may be in the turn signal assembly. I would like to know if this true before I replace it. All other light functions are correct. Thank You
  15. Are the cockpit covers that were mentioned on this site several months ago still available. I should do a search, looking for a blue one for my father inlaw. He lives in Florida and never puts his top up. When playing golf this could protect his car from the sun if it easy to put on. Thanks Gary Frank
  16. There is a drop in refrigerant called Hot Shot (414B) produced by ICOR http://www.icorinternational.com/. I have not used it or any other R12 drop in replacement in automobile AC systems. But a properly performed evacuation of the refrigerant system must always be done. A vacuum pump and a micron meter should be used and you should pull the system down to at least 500 microns to assure that all moisture and contaminants have been removed. The advantage of a drop in refrigerant is that the compressor oil does not have to be changed or any flushing of the system. If you know someone who does AC work they would have the proper tools to do job. I remember seeing a product in the AutoZone store that was a complete kit, but I would recommend having the job done by someone that works in the AC trade.
  17. I have a new outside lens and have removed the complete light assy for inspection and decided not to attempt the procedure just yet because of the gue (sealant) that was used to seal the assy. I have researched the procedure and have learned that a heat gun can be used to soften the sealant with care as you pry the parts apart. The inside lens, I do not have and do not want to damage parts that I can not replace. Maybe during the winter months I will gain the courage to procedure.
  18. I also have a 90 Conv that had the same problem and I traced the electrical schematic to the common (ground) splice under the passenger seat and re-spliced the corroded connection. That procedure corrected the Courtesy Light failure ( foot well lights). I sent the failed connection to Barney Eaton. I thought that the AC outlet under the seat may have caused condensation and corroded the connection because there did not seem to be any water contamination to the carpet or padding. I hope this may help you, it was a task to remove the carpet, trim, seat and console to access the wiring harness but it was worth it. Gary Frank
  19. The horn buttons would be a good investment, I purchased spares before they are no longer available. They are easy to replace and are not expensive. There are other suppliers on line such as GM Parts Direct. As for the Tape and or CD unit they can be repaired, I had United Radio rebuild/repair mine and they work well. I also installed new speakers. Taking the unit out does take some time and effort. If plan on doing repairs to your new Reatta a shop manual would be a good investment. Good luck and hope you enjoy your fine crafted car.
  20. I just went and checked the original springs and they are Part No.22528245 which corresponds to the 88-89 HD springs in Barneys list. I will know soon how it works out.<P>Thanks Gary
  21. I have a 90 and 92 Riviera, but wanted a 93 for the Alloy 16” rims, Touring Suspension and the improved brakes. They both really ride nice, it is my understanding that the Touring Suspension is a bit stiffer and handles better. I guess that’s the trade off. My 92 does not have the lighted key hole or the door handle touch entry lights either. With the keyless entry they dropped that feature and you have to open the door before the interior lights come. I also have 72 Riv but that does not relate. I can not tell the difference the Dyna Suspension makes.<P>Gary Frank
  22. The spring part No.22197295 is the part No. that replaced the older two differant part No. I would think one was for the coupe and the other for the Conv. The Conv is heavier and would require the stiffer spring. I have purchased the new springs and struts as mentioned in an earlier post. I will let you know how it works out. I was curious if anyone else has replaced the front springs and which ones they used.<P>Thanks Gary
  23. The Gm parts dealer goes on the theory that if the spring replaces both Coupe and Conv, that they must have used the Conv spring as the replacement. I wanted the replament spring specifications but they were not available.<P>Thanks Gary
  24. My local GM dealer says that they no longer show two part No. for the front springs. I purchased a set of springs, struts and mounts, but would like to know if the springs are rated for the extra weight of the Conv. If anyone can help with clarifying is issue I would appreciate it, I know the dealer should be able to BUT his book does not tell him. Here are the Part No. Strut 22064169 - Spring 22197295 - Mount 22178707. I do not want to install the springs and find my car sitting lower and sluggish.<P>Thanks Gary Frank<BR>
  25. Replacement parts – struts & springs. I went to GM parts for less to order front-end suspension parts and needed codes to order front spring coils and struts. The spring code was Fla, Flb, and or Flc. The Strut code was with or w/o Lp spring code. Where do I find these codes on the car. The door sticker info is not legable.<P>Thank You<BR>Gary Frank
