Baker Montana is about as close the middle of nowhere as it's possible to get.  Funny what turns up.

1974 Cadillac ASC conversion station wagon. 1 of 4. This is the only 74 Cadillac wagon available to the public! 472 th400

    96000 miles.

New shocks all around. New wheels and tires. I do have the stock ones as well. Fresh tune up. With rebuilt carb. New alternator. Water pump and belts. Fresh front wheel bearing pack. And seals. New valve cover gaskets. New rear coil springs. Over all a nice cruising car. Needs a few minor things addressed yet. Like the AC. Clear clean MT title. Asking 25k or 23500 on stock wheels. Car was featured in Hemmings Magazine in 2011. I have the Magazine that will go with the car. Very rare car! Load the whole family and go cruising. Motivated seller!

I’m not necessarily trying to be cheap, more work out value for money

“Value for money,” and “Hawaii” do not belong in the same sentence.   Everything is ludicrously expensive.   Streets are overrun with rental Hyundai Elantras, locals were fed up with tourists 50 years ago and their attitude hasn’t improved, traffic is worse than wherever you’re from.  Sacred sites, while stunningly beautiful, are crawling with YouTubers looking for a photo shoot.   A Las Vegas casino is more relaxing.

But look at Kauai.   No buildings taller than a palm tree.  Grand Canyon of the Pacific.  The west shore is a military base but can be accessed if you hunt around and purchase a pass, miles of beach and no tourists.  The lighthouses are worthwhile.

Pearl Harbor is absolutely worth the trip.   Still has the bullet holes in the hanger windows.  No bags, no purse for the lady.  If she does bring a purse, they will charge you something like $15 to store it in a locker while you're on site.

There are some very nice islands in the Caribbean with fewer people and better food.  Although cruise ships are doing their best to destroy those as well.

  4. You may find that this is a site that likes original cars.  That's not to say that you won't find people willing to help, but you will also find people, like me, who cannot understand destroying a very nice original car.   The HAMB might be more helpful.  But turning a nice old car into a street rod is the same as graffiting a Charlie Russell painting.

If you’re still looking, give a call to Geoff Rogers of Rogers Motors in Shutesbury, MA 413-259-1722. He has several MK VII’ at his facility.

Thank you.  I would not specifically choose the MK VII, especially if there was a comparable MK IX available, and I'd take a MK I or II over any of the big ones.  This one just happened to present itself.  The condition, if a little on the low end, is about what I'm looking for.  Good enough to run, bad enough that you're not destroying a nice car.

I tend to feel bad for neglected machines and when I see one like this I want to give it a second life.  If I don't, who else will?  For a rally car, the big Jaguar really is not a good choice.  Lots of style but lots of trouble.   It's like the hot / crazy matrix.

Gremlin X, 1974, original straight six, will turn over. four speed on the floor, counting reverse.

Interior dash doors have been left on molested any bond on the car. you can see from the picture there is no body rust that I’m aware of anywhere, floorboards, trunk, everything is super solid.

Never has been in a wreck, straight frame. Awesome car for the for its age. $2500.

Have you ever been in the Sahara?

No.  But I have been following the hero-era rallies for some time.   My son and I are in the first stages of looking for a suitable car.  This is a multiyear project that will take some doing to put together.  It's a fine line between something interesting (the above Jaguar), or a car that would actually be reasonably practical for the rally.  One of the rallies featured a mid-sixties Chevy Nova.  Comfortable, reliable, easy to fix, and as interesting as a refrigerator.

We're currently half way through a frame off restoration of a 1957 Buick.  We're discussing using that.  I asked if he would rather inherit a pristine garage queen or bumped and bruised with great stories.   He said he'd take the bruises and stories.   But that first bruise is going to hurt.

  8. So no, I'm not the guy who spent 1.9 million on a wrecked Ferrari.

But this was given to me in about 1985 and I spent almost that much bringing it back.  Still have it and make a point to drive it every month all year.

The capacitor is for suppression of electrical noise… But, then, who is listening to AM radio now?

If I just happen to have an old Ford that was converted to 12 volt with alternator and have some ignition noise through the radio, what circuit would I mount this in?   I like my AM radio crisp and clear.
