  1. Those people are everywhere. They have a saturday cars and coffee thing here in my little town but don't show up with anything but a hot rod. They will actually ask you to move down to the end of the parking area. Of course I won't. When I feel like being a prick I get there really early and park in the prime spot they have "reserved" for themselves week after week and bring one of the original paint 50's mopars with me.

  2. If it is a complete car with all the odd ball trim intact it would be a good find for someone looking to rebuild this particular model. Guessing was short run in it's day.  How was this wood attached to the body of these cars?  Wood looks like the varnish peeled off so might just need reworked. The older the wood the better it is to work with and more stable.  Whenever I am doing projects for people like doors, new trim, ect I go to lumber and home salvage yards.  I would rather buy a 150 year old door and dismantle it prior to refinishing then buy a new door. Some of the lumber in those old doors was 400+ years old when they cut it down to start with going by grain patterns.

  3. Call me odd but I like looking at the floors and walls of old garages of people who have owned and lived in the homes for all those years. The walls surely tell a story as not many young people these days have a real garage like this but just a storage area for crap.  Look around and see story of the mans life.  My Grandfathers and fathers garage was just like this garage. But when you look at the floor you can't help but think of the countless hours he stood there, crawled around, swept, and spent a huge part of his life around this car.  40 years is a long time to see an old friend go and not feel a giant hole in there. I see a lawn chair in the reflection. I sit out in my garage in the same manner

  4. Every flathead car O help people with around these parts that make the claim "Can't seem to stop over heating" is normally the same series of steps to fix it unless the block is plugged solid.    

     

    Check to see if thermo is there and opening at correct temp

    Check to see if the radiator is plugged

    Check water pump is not dead.

     

    If I have coolant flow and it slowly creeps up after 5 miles I drain the coolant and fill it back with 100% Evapo Rust. Drive the car every day to temp.  After a week if the clear evapo rust turns jet black I drain it and do it again. If the car is bad you might need to do it 3 times.  Drive the car for 30-40 days and always up to temp.  

     

    Flush the system again for a while. Yank the radiator and water pump. You should not see any rust. 

     

    Get a come along and make this handy dandy tool.  Hook the  slot of the water distribution tube. The evapo rust should have done the job and the water distribution tube should pop right out.  

     

    Trying to do this without first derusting the block will lead to more then a headache and the risk of ripping the tube to pieces.  I always find them plugged up as they are tappered towards the back and the temp sending unit is in the back of the distribution tube area that is always stopped up.

  5. Which brings me to an off the topic story but one I am sure many can relate too.  I had a 2008 HHR I used for work going on 12 years.  268k miles and it burned a qt of oil every 2 tanks. But it was a super reliable car.  I upgraded and like old car people I put it back for "just in case" times when it was retired.  A good friend at work his brother is a disabled vet and was needing a cheapo car to run errands with so I let him have it for 250 bucks (which less then the cost of the tires I put on 8 months prior). Well it was a work car and I work contruction building hospitals. So it was dusty, dirty and stinky to say the least.  His wife spent a solid week cleaning it. Scrubbing and shampooing and the works. One day he came over with his brother to help me push a car in the barn and he remarked that no matter what they used on the drivers seat they could not get the stink from coming out on hot days.  I told him what did he expect from a seat that had 260k miles of German beer farts stuck in it.

  6. Like it but need to add on 5 feet to the garage.   The "no power under load" issue is something I would want to check on first hand. Dirty plugs? Riming out? Loaded up catb?  Says not a regular driver for years.  What would everyone check first ?   Smoke on a cold start?  Sooty tail pipe (car not me)  Loaded plugs?  E gas issue?  Clogged gas filter and air cleaner?  Looks like a very solid and clean car. Not sbused.  Sounds like a sitting issue. My 63 had an issue like this till I realized the brakes weren't releasing due to degraded and swollen shut brake lines and a stuck choke

    There is something special OMO about the hood lines of this generation of Buick and how a good wax job just seems to make the paint look liquid in nature. Like nature itself is just sliding down off the center.   My 49 at the local 4th show.

    I just returned from Highland Park (just north of Chicago) with my new prize.  The trade has been successful and while I "could" have tried to start it to pull it out of garage I decided to just push/winch it on instead.  Once home I decided to see how hard it might be to start (the fuel tank is out due to leaks) so I dropped a jerry can in and gave it a try knowing the battery hadnt been check/charged in over a year since I had it running for them last summer.  Slow at first but then picking up a little speed (starter) she cranked right up and I drove her off the trailer.

    Last year for the body-on-frame and flathead, the '60 had the new slant six, as well as unibody construction.

     

    Little evidence that the head has been off, from my observation. Where's the oil breather cap? The old engine bay ad photo- I see no new water pump, old dusty distributor cap and wires, nor any indication that fingers had removed anything for an engine rebuild.

    Base level Savoy, with base equipment...no radio, manual steering and brakes. Does have a clock and the fancy acrylic steering wheel.

     

    If it were a brighter shade one could put Yellow Cab on the door.

     

    That brocade seat fabric strongly suggests a reupholster at some point, probably decades ago, and not original.

    Car was delivered new in Oct. '59... very late in the model year.

     

    More concerning to me is the "fireball maker model 3000" fuel filter rubbing on the frame and with a turn so sharp on the rubber fuel line it is just asking to crack and spray all over the exhaust. What looks to be growing inside the filter seems very interesting
