    Vintageben,

Thanks for the input. I was wondering where you have seen pictures of my car? I haven't posted any and would like as much info as I can get.

    Hi BlueDevil

I was actually referring to 31 LaSalle’s car as he had commented that he didn’t have jewels on the back of his headlights. As for your headlight the one in your picture at the start of this thread looks the same as mine only chromed. Sorry if we hijacked your thread but I hope you benefited from the info as well. I can take a few more photos of my 72 headlights if that helps?
    Cheers Ben

  2. Yes I would say that they are probably 65’s here’s a photo of my 65 headlight B1CE40E2-BCF8-479D-8433-E48C666582B2.jpeg.52e5428fdd017743e3c41d50433fdad4.jpeg And here is one of my 72 headlight. 2887E304-3128-49FF-A2EA-06EBF263A558.jpeg.f8f301d872d8f81aaa09fde8a1ddab89.jpegI would have to say the larger lights really make the vehicle pop and if I was you I would probably run with what you’ve got but keep an eye out for the larger 72 or 75 lights. But that just me. Oh yeah I can get a photo of a 75 light tomorrow now it a bit late so heading to bed

hi Vintageben you are correct about my headlights they look the same as the 75 roadsters

I could be wrong but all the roadsters seem to have cowl lights my car has no cowl lights

but has extra lights built into headlights

Yes I think all the 75 Roadsters I have seen have cowl lights but many of the 72 Coupes do not as or example mine doesn’t but like your lights it has the parker lights built into the headlights. One thing I’m wondering is the diameter of your lights as they look a little small but that could be just the angle of photo. The drum type light on my 72 measurements approximately 11inches across and so do my 75 fully domed type the 65 are smaller.
    Cheers Ben

  4. Yeah funny enough I had not taken too much notice before now. I will have to check out the cap on my neighbors car next time I see it. But yes now that you have pointed that out I will probably not be able to un-see it 🙄🤣. Yes the weather has been much kinder to us, our crops are growing gangbusters which is great but the humidity making shed work not much fun but hey with potential for a great crop I’m not going to complain......much

My application is on a 29 Dodge Bros truck and that is where it was mounted when I got truck. Passenger cars may be different. Don’t know about them.

I just fired up my truck and it runs good.

Cool and great to hear that it is running good

  6. Hmm 🤔 this is all very interesting. Here is a photo of the caps off my cars, one the left is the one from my 65 and on the right is the one from my 75 they both measured up the same as each other. The bayonets on the 65 have been replaced at some stage and need replacing again now but the style that is on my 75 cap will work on the 65. Both cars have a 2 inch outside diameter filler neck.

I have a 1928 series 72 convertible coupe and there are no jewels in headlights

Is your car a sedan or coupe ???

If I remember correctly from photos I have seen of your car it is running different/maybe later style headlights. I think yours are dome type lights not drum style like most 72’s had

I was able to find a replacement filter with the internal shut off valve at Napa. It was made in India and of very poor quality. I could not get it to seal when i tighten the bowl. The nut was made of pot metal would strip out if i used pliers. I returned it and found a reproduction AC at our local Chevy restoration parts dealer and it is an in line gas filter for $10 less. The bowl tighten nut is steel also.

The shut off ball valve was found at Ace Hardware.

    Thanks for all your comments

Great to see hopefully that solves the problems. One thing I find interesting is the position of your vacuum tank as most that I have seen are mounted on the same side as the manifold but you’d appears to be on the opposite, I’m not saying that it is incorrect but I do find it interesting.

  9. Hi Leo

here is a couple of pics from my 72 it is mounted with machine screws on the inside of the fire wall. The fire wall insulation is behind it if that makes sense. The screws come through just left of the oil filter. On the matter of it causing a fire I have no idea. I guess I would follow the advice bloo gave.A4DBF788-68D5-4885-9803-B6279E78BC31.jpeg.e029c200ad103afbf259b701a6f2dc66.jpegDE8AA23B-34FF-47DF-B7B6-C676CB21885F.jpeg.c18b6b3ee2b0501688ca7aa8f223cb12.jpeg

Aren't those Eastern Browns bad news? As in highly venomous? What about the one on the car? And have to ask what the car is... RHD, is it Australian-built?

Yes Eastern Browns are real bad news they are very venomous and can be fairly aggressive too not what I want hanging around. The carpet snake on the car is just a python they are pretty harmless and usually fairly placid so these are good to have round. The car is a 29 Chrysler 65. Unusually it doesn’t have a local Australian body but a Hayes body from Grand Rapids Mich.

A friend of mine says they swapped cars to trucks because they were rationing gas in the USA.

    Trucks were allowed more gas.

Yeah much the same happened here.

  12. Nice it certainly looks like a 27 to me. Yeah 27 And 28 models should have an oil filter but A lot of them were bypassed over the years. The photos of the 26 are of one of my 26’s and yes RHD as I’m in Australia.
the air filter is like a Jam tin with Louvres cut in it and sucks air into the hot Box around the exhaust then on to the carbie. Not sure if your truck was originally a truck or if it was converted as most of the trucks I know had the fuel tank under the seat but the cars were under the rear chassis cross member.

Howdy!  I have a 1927 capital Chevy truck. It was my grandpas first motorized vehicle. We have restored it which wasn’t too hard as it was always parked in a shed. We drove it in the town parade and as long as i was in 1st gear, idling no advance it was fine, tried to go faster or in second and it would backfire thru the carb. Have read all the suggestions here and will try changing the plug wires. My question is, is there a newer model carb that we can put on it. It has the RXO. We have advanced the distributor, retarded it (all 1 notch) and seems to start best in original position. We changed it to 12 volt8B4E29CB-62DB-46E6-B07F-8BD2069D3C78.jpeg.a3874e7e58bdc1b63c1aad77fcd964d1.jpegThanks for your feedback!

I would be checking timing again. Pretty easy on a 27 as there are marks on the fly wheel as long as it has been installed correctly. Also a few variations between early 27 and late 27 but I would pretty much be running back through the electrics. Do you have a workshop/repair manual these are definitely worthwhile.

I have always been a Chevy fan for the 60's and 70's, but the 20's throw me a curve.

I question if my truck being a 1927 or a 1928.  One thing that i noticed is it

looks like my pushrods are external.  Is that common to a certain model engine?

Also manuals show a oil fill tube.  I do not have one.  What the heck ?

Is there a place to see engine photos?  You guys are  GREAT.

So just a quick note is pre 28 has exposed push rods but in 1928 they enclosed push rodS, also two exhaust ports and added front wheel brakes. Here are a couple of pics of a 26 engine.

    Cheers Ben
