  5. most I have seen were done by spinning the wheel while applying the paint.
  6. I have a pair of running board mouldings I believe are 1939 olds and would like to know if they fit other models or years. I think the part number is #411165 for 1939 oldsmobile series 70 and 80. They are 7/8" wide and 56 1/2" long with a groove down the center. Can anyone advise me?
  7. I saw one for sale on Ebay that had the black background. it looked good that way but that doesn't make it right. I just want things as correct as I can get it.
  8. I know the metal between the stainless strips are gray but I am looking for guidance on the latch arm that moves opening the hood. The word SPECIAL is on it. I believe the background on this is painted to highlight the word but don't know the color. Thanks for your response.
  9. CAN SOMEONE CONFIRM THE COLOR OF THE PAINT ON THE "SPECIAL" CHROME LATCH HANDLE ON THE FRONT FENDER. I HAVE SEEN RED PAINT ON THE TOP AND BOTTOM FLAT STRIP AND I HAVE SEEN BLACK ON THE RECESSED AREA AROUND THE WORDING. THE PLATER IS REDOING IT AND I WANT IT TO BE DONE CORRECTLY. A CORRECT PHOTO WOULD BE NICE. THANKS
  10. I found that they used a Dante Red used on 1930 Pontiacs. The PPG Ditzler mix number was IM-720 and Dupont # was 246-9089 but my paint supplier couldn't find the formula to mix it. Is there other numbers that someone could share for Dante Red. I found these numbers on PaintRef.com
  11. sorry guys but those are just hubcaps. The rims look like any old Buick rim. Here is a shot of the 15" rim without the cap.
  12. I still have the 15" rims on the car. I don't have a full set of 16's yet. I can't say if the 15" rims are original or not. I bought the car from a widow. Her husband took the clips off and put a full hubcap on. I took the tire off the spare and it was a 6" wide rim.
  13. Thanks Barney. That info is great. Thanks again to all
  14. If they were body color did they have the same white strips? Do you know the shade of red? thanks for the info
  15. Can anyone tell me if the rims on a 40 Buick Special were the same color as the car? I have seen a lot of cars with red rims. Is red is correct what color matches it and was their any strips? Mine have been swaped out for 15" so I have to find 16" and redo them. Thanks
  16. The problem with lacquer paint is two fold. It is difficult to find and they took out the lead. It isn't what it once was. I used to paint lacquer back in the 60's and 15 years ago I painted my 68 Camaro with lacquer. There was no comparison. The current lacquer is junk. I currently use single stage urethane rather than two stage over 2K high build urethane primer. The nice thing about single stage is that after the first coat is applied and left to dry it can be wet "color sanded" with 600 grit and any scratches or pits will show. This allows you to correct any thing you missed or didn't have good enough in prep. After a couple more coats are applied you can apply a clear coat finish. If it is not a metallic color you can clean up any dust particles with 2000 grit between coats so they don't get trapped in your next coat and the on the final coat you can use 2500 or 3000. Mequirs polish after that. I don' have a booth so I usually get a little dust and have learned to deal with it. Acrylic enamel can be done the same way. My "T" is enamel.
  17. want to buy: Running board trim right side 63 5/8” long 1 1/16” wide. Doesn't need to be perfect. some dents OK just not flattened. Thanks
  18. Tom, I appreciate your telling me about the u-channels. Lowes had 4 ft. aluminum channels for 1/2" plywood. I cut one in half and pop riveted the pieces together. I notched one of the plywood halves so they would still butt up. This really made a difference. I am good now. Thanks to all for their help. PS: I am looking for a running board strip for left side 40 Special 4-door. If anyone has one that is not flattened and drilled I could probably straighten or work out the dents.
  19. Do you have a chrome strip for the running board left side for a 4 door? should be about 63 1/2" long. Doesn't need to be perfect
  20. They are just freezer paper and kind of fragile.
  21. Dear Tom, Thanks for your reply. My car didn't have the boards when I bought it. While at the Carlisle swap meet I was able to measure and make patterns of the wooden pieces. After I got them installed I noticed it wasn't very strong. I didn't see the metal strip while measuring but the mat covered the area between the supports. Can you tell me how wide the strip is or how far it laps each of the boards so I can make a similar part. Thanks again.
  22. I need to know if there is any stiffeners under the shelf boards in the trunk on a 4 door sedan. I have the shelf but it seems springy if you apply any pressure on top of it. If there is supports, dimensions and photos would be appreciated. Thanks
