  1. I have read all the threads I can find on the forum regarding the access to the wiper motor . Had mine rebuilt and it worked fine when I put in a few months ago as I was doing a frame off on my 65 GS . Naturally that was easy to do with the fenders and hood and cowl in full view . Just got everything put back together in my dash and wiring and stated the wiper and it was making a loud clanking noise in the assembly for some reason which I have  yet to figure out. As I was trying to figure it out, the motor stopped suddenly and cannot be restarted -  fuse is OK . Took the cowl plate off , assembly looks OK and moves like it should but obviously I can’t see the motor . How accessible is it if I take the hood and bracket to fender back off  ( having spent hours getting it aligned ! ) . PLEASE tell me  I don’t have to take the fender back off as my grill , bumper and headlights are exactly where I want them after literally spending days lining them up !  I am about ready to leave them non- functional if that is the case  as I’m  sure everyone who has done this knows . So very frustrating ! Whoever designed this wiper motor placement should be beat with a large stick and hung out to dry ! I have learned many valuable lessons over the last 20 months doing this restoration - main one being NEVER AGAIN !
Seriously would appreciate any thoughts knowing there is no easy  answer .

  2. This 64 restomod was at the Des Moines GoodGuys this past weekend . Gorgeous work of art . Dual quads and gray leather interior . Sorry not to have gotten more pictures . Belonged to a Dallas customer of this shop out of San Antonio and is making the rounds at several shows this Summer . Didn’t get a cost of the 5 year rebuild but way north of $100 K I’m sure .

I have one but it is pretty rough . Many small dents - don’t think it would satisfy you . I will  give it to you but suspect it would cost $30-40 to ship as they are bulky to box up. If you want it and willing to pay shipping I would be happy to send it along but definitely gonna need some work and elbow grease to make it presentable . Surely someone has a better one but as you know the rear wheel trim always takes a beating . Good luck

Greetings to you & all our friends down under! Dynamat is the brand name of a specific product but has almost become a generic term for many brands of auto insulation. most consist of a layer of rubber or tar like insulation w a layer of thin aluminum backing on one side & a peel & stick layer of adhesive on the other. Main functions are for deadening sound, vibration, & heat, which 1st gen. Rivs are known to produce a lot of. Many use it on floors as the Riv's exhaust is in close proximity to your feet, but some go hod wild with the stuff, installing it on the roof, firewall, & inside the doors for sound deadening. Folks who have gone all the way claim their Rivs are much quieter.  It takes a lot of prep work to get it to adhere properly, but the Riv you're lookin at appears to have been prepped already.   good luck & we hope to hear more from you soon

As mentioned I did everything I could with Dynamat - trunk , floors , roof , seat back, door panels , etc . Very happy I did it . As mentioned prep work is important . Adds some weight to the car but another 75 -80 lbs in this car is no big deal.

    Ken,

I've received feedback from folks who have used the repro hoses that the hoses do not fit tight enough to the nipples on the control head.

      True?

    Tom

Hi Tom. - don’t the answer to that yet - will let you know . The ID looks ok but not sure yet . Should have tried them on the control head first before pulling through grommet .

Looks like whoever recovered my seats (previous owner) just picked a spot, drilled a couple of holes, and screwed them on.  I turned one of my downward facing brackets and put the screws back into the same holes.  I knew then that something wasn't right because the bracket stuck up above the height of the back of the cushion.  Now to search for holes as Ken showed in his post.  🙄

Didn’t bother searching through my Dynamat for the original holes - just drilled new ones at the correct height after screwing them up the first time by putting them too  high on the frame . if you look closely you can see my incorrect holes above the brackets . That’s the way I like to do things- one step forward and two back . ( can’t tell you how many times I have taken the door skins off trying to get my power windows adjusted !

  7. Of course Tom Mooney is correct again. This message was perfect timing for me as my seats were  ready to go in . Here’s a picture of where they go on the seat back and where they go under the frame edge (blue tape).

greetings, Rivee.      At this point you may already have, but if not, you need a subscription to the Review club magazine, where you will find vendors for new & used parts & tech tips. You need factory shop & body manuals, which can also be found there or on eBay. Also on eBay you can acquire a laminated, full-color electrical schematic, as the ones found in repro manuals are generally illegible. You should search this forum for Riviera63's used parts list & start acquiring everything you will need. I also recommend Clark's Corvair, AB&G, Classic Buick, & CarsInc for new & used parts. Check with the forum before making any large purchases, as some sources are known to have problems with parts & service. You may also want to keep your eye out for a good, relatively rust-free parts car to provide the metal you're going to need. Not sure where you're at in Cali, but you may be within driving distance of several desert junkyards in SoCal & Ariz. known to provide rust free Riv body parts. Look for them in the Review. & Don't forget you have a great resource at your disposal in the form of a ten yr old. When I was his age(here we go) my Dad's hobby was buying old cars to fix up & resell. In the process he taught me everything I know & instilled a life-long love of cars, which is something we need more of. & thanks for saving another Riv from the junk heap of history!     drew

I would add Tom Mooney to the list of sources above . Probably the most knowledgeable first generation Riv guy out there along with Gene Guanere. You will find that the “smalls” are often the most difficult to locate so save and label  EVERYTHING as you disassemble , right down to nuts and bolts .
