  1. I've been working with our Chapter's newsletter editor to create our monthly newsletter.  I've been using Word but it seems to not work so well and I think there should be an easier way to create them.  I tried using Publisher, but it doesn't translate well and moves stuff around when converted to an email.

I'd love some tips from you "masters" :)  Thanks!

  2. I've been helping with our Chapter newsletter since I joined this year and we have a few members that we print and mail the newsletter too.  i know I enjoy receiving it along with the AACA Newsletter.  I have fun working on it and writing articles on the shows I've been to and did an article about some powder coating I did to my custom 454SS.  Makes for good conversation the next I see someone who read the newsletter too :)

  3. Michelle - good luck getting a decent insurance company!  I've never had collector car insurance, but am in the process of having my 1990 pickup appraised so I can get an agreed value policy for the first time in 23 years of owning the truck.  Keep going through every insurance company you can find - it might be worth it to buy a beater car as your DD so you can put your car as the 2nd vehicle.  just a thought.

    Annie,

There are some tours that are restricted to particular years but there are also some that are open to any vehicle 25 years and older. Your Suburban would be eligible for the Founders Tour or Divisional Tours. Your Suburban should also be eligible for NC Region Tours.

The Divisional Tours are also shorter which would require you taking less time off of work.

Thanks :)  It's more the time-frame that's tough.  A car show is "usually" one day. I'd love to go to every show and tour, but this whole work-thing gets in the way of my fun ;)

One solution to this is go on a tour. Shows are boring and for wimps, the real test is driving your car on tour which I just did Labor Day weekend in 1911 Model T Ford with 107 other T's on the Ohio Model T Jamboree in Findlay, Ohio. We did over 200 miles over two and half days. Just had to put up at stops with people asking, Where's the car show?. We do local AACA tours from April to October and sometimes March and November. They take some work to put together with interesting stops to see collections, museums and other places of interest, require good directions and coordinating lunch stops or Ice cream. They are a lot more fun for non-car fan passengers than sitting around all day waiting on a plastic trophy and getting pissed off if your car does not win. Doubly so if you are in charge and you have to deal with pissed off people.

There are no tours for my "new" truck. And those are a few days where many of us don't have that kind of time... Yet

  6. What a beautiful car!  I've never ridden in anything that old - yet. :)  Hoping to be able to in the future.

My best find will be one of my best memories!  The first time I showed the Burb in Hershey in 2014.  My husband and father in law got me the annual poster and had the artist autograph it for me while I was at the hotel cleaning, polishing and detailing the truck.  It sits with one of the wooden nickles :)

It's not a big deal, but it puts a smile on my face when I think about it. :)

  7. A month or so ago, I went to a local car show with my Modified pickup.  Another member had his fully restored Concourse Studebaker with (I believe) his Senior Award.  While my pickup won in my class, he came in 2nd place to a "lacking" Firebird!!!  Unreal!  his car was IMHO Best in Show, but the judge thought otherwise.  what was his criteria?!  Didn't know what he was looking it?  didn't look at all of the cars.  Who knows.

the only thing that really bothers me at local shows is when people show up with brand new Mustangs and Camaros and get a trophy.  And my pickup goes home empty handed.

The Burb doesn't go to local shows unless it's an AACA Chapter show for HPOF.

  8. I collect anything for the 1990 454SS pickup - unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) there isn't much out there for the 1990 model.

I've got a Pitbull - so anything with a Pittie on it is for me :)

I used to collect Eeyore stuff, but am slowly selling those items off.

I also love butterflies and won't turn down anything with a butterfly on it.

I have a coin collection - although they are just in a box and I don't buy coins (usually). i get them from work or the store so it's rare I get a valuable one, but i do get some interesting ones sometimes.

I could go on and on lol

My husband has a great model car collection.  He's also starting to build his hand tool collection now that we have some room.

We also have an extensive Christmas light display, so I try and pick things up at yard sales, etc.  (if anyone going to Hershey has some deer they don't want anymore, feel free to bring them to add to our display ;)

    Good weather !

    Last year was perfect weather!!

    I'd love to find a 1976 Cutlass S body for my husband's car. :)

I need a NOS blue dash pad for the Burb - Mine has so many cracks, well, you get the drift ;)

  10. Wow!  While the chrome work looks good, it's terrible that they left it looking like that.  In the description, did he state that the rust holes, etc would be filled/repaired before chroming?  did he have before photos of these items?  did you pay with a CC or Paypal?  I hope you will be able to get your money back as I don't know anyone who would put those parts on their car.  Good luck!

  11. Very interesting topic!

I work for 4 car dealerships as a title clerk and I see what people pay for new cars!  Unreal!  I say it all the time, I would never purchase a "new" car. To most people, my 2 trucks are ancient - at 26 & 27 years old.  But to see the payments people make on new cars, plus the higher cost of insurance and taxes and although you don't have to maintain them as much as an older car, you lack the individuality of a classic car.  You look in any parking lot and you see the same thing - Hondas, Nissans, Toyotas, Mercedes, etc. Even tho the logos are all different, they really look the same.  Then there's my Burb.  Sticks out like a store thumb, everyone knows it's mine and there's some respect for it cause it's "old".

Then there's my "toy" - a highly customized 1990 454SS pickup.  This truck started out as my daily driver for almost 10 years before we put the 500+ horsepower BBC in it, replacing the "boat anchor" that came with the truck.

I pay under $2000/year for insurance (That includes my 2 trucks and husband's '01 PT Cruiser and all 3 have full coverage), around $50 in taxes for all 3 vehicles.  There are no car payments, we can do the maintenance and repairs ourselves without the help of a computer and if I need parts, I can find many at the local junk yard.  No I know not everyone can do that but we still can take advantage of this.

My next vehicle?  I hope it's a 68-72 3-door Suburban!  Or a really clean 454SS pickup of any year.
