Hi, TR! Great progress so far! I'll be following along... Good luck! Greg

I wonder how much he was worth when he was ALIVE?

Never heard of "Cold War Motors," but I'm always up for something new and I'm going to check it out! Thanks, Rusty and TwoTone

Ok, so I just went back to re-read the original post. Two things... First, if a club hosts a show and breaks even that sounds like a well run event to me! If the club lost a substantial part of it's savings, that would be concerning. I don't want to beat a dead horse, but if one plays golf, goes out to eat, goes fishing/hunting/whatever past-time, there are costs involved and one does not expect to make any profit. It's the price of having fun! Second, an on-line directory for any club sounds like a win-win! I may look at a paper directory once or twice, but once the "new" directory comes out the old directory would go into the recycling bin. On-line has less impact on the earth in many ways...

I moved to the Washington DC area a little over 3 decades ago and joined the local Corvair club. All thru college and for two years afterward it was my only car! I went to a few local Corvair club meetings and I was a little surprised about projects the club would help the members with when I needed help to keep my daily driver Corvair on the road! A few years went by and the Corvair became my second/weekend/fun car and i started going to the meetings again. Now 30 years later, most of my friends outside of church are thru the Corvair club, not only on a local level, but on a state and national level too! I keep in touch with at least a dozen people all over the country mostly via text and emails and an occasional telcal. We may only see one another every year or two at a national event. When attending a national, at 56, I still feel as though I am on the younger side of the people there. One local Corvair club member was always wondering about members who paid thier dues but never came to meetings. Maybe for them, being a member of the club, albeit from a distance and thru monthly newsletters, was all they had time for or could afford and that was perfectly ok to me.

Location? Price? Running?

"...car ran good when parked a few months ago," when we had to push it off the driveway into the grass to get it out of the way? Why not spend an extra few seconds to clear the old insulation(?) off the back seat BEFORE taking the photo?

"...In lovely running order," is contradictory to "the engine does not start due to missing battery!" Which is it?

I don't post here much, but I felt like I ought to on this one. Admittedly I am a big Model K fan, but to me, this is the real deal. A Judkins 2-window Berline. Kimes and Clark report only 37 of these made for the 1934 model year, which means only a very few left. Yes, it's very rough and the price as it stands may be on the high side, but if you want to throw money at a Full Classic, this may be the one. Mid six figures to restore, though, probably.
Hi, Bill! Please educate me (and possibly others...). What makes this Lincoln a "2-window?" Separate windshields? Or, two side windows? Just trying to learn. Thanks! Greg

I think I would have had the painter repaint the areas with issues at the time; however the issues may not have shown up until years later. The threat of a hit to his reputation or a court case may have resulted in the work being redone gratis. 35 years later, at this price point repairs before photos and advertising may have been a good idea...

Thanks for the update on the muffler, Slack! I have been watching the Franklin market for a year or two now, but need to sell my house first (It's on the market now). I like the dark green! I'm fairly tall at 6'3" or more depending on shoes, so I wonder how well I would fit? Does the seat adjust? Thanks! Greg
-
Why would the muffler have exploded with such violence? Was the tailpipe blocked and combustion had no where else to go? Was the timing off and it just backfired?
-
Thanks for letting us all know, Steve. Sorry it didn't work out for you...

Hi, Rand! Please give us an idea of what vehicles these carbs fit. It may help in your search... Good luck! Greg

Well done, Jeff! Good luck with the sale! Love the color combination!

What exactly is RARE about it? Maybe I'm missing something...

I like this Rolls; however, I wonder how well my 6'3" body would fold into that driver's compartment? I wonder if the seat even adjusts? The interior skeleton/woodwork is really appealing to me...

Great sleuthing, Matt! Keep us posted on how the new lug nuts work out for you. Hopefully, they will eliminate the shimmy...

Couldn't they have waited until the rollback pulled away before taking the photo at the curb?
SO desperate to sell, they couldn't wait! Definitely a modern engine with the alternator and A/C. Does anyone recognize the engine? The valve cover will certainly offer a clue...

How did you harden the input shaft key? Can you harden it at home? Or, did a machine shop do it for you?
-
Do we really want to be using vaseline for priming a new engine? I would be hesitant vaseline would not break down with the break in oil or move to somewhere where it would cause a blockage or other problems. Thoughts?

Dropped the engine parts off at the machine shop today and the initial analysis is it will need a full rebuild. They're going to tank the parts and then magna flux the block, heads and crank to make sure we've at least got a solid foundation. Then they'll measure everything to get specifics on what I'll need to buy. Looks like it will need to be bored out about 20 thousandths. To add to the misery... since no one wants to work in a machine shop these days... it will be a couple of months before I can get anything back. It looks like the cost will be enough that I'll need to decide between rebuilding the non-original 6 cylinder and sourcing/building a 327 V8 to replace it. As I've done more research on the 327 it is looking to be very expensive and the install is non-trivial. As much as I hate to say this, I can see future versions of ourselves dropping in some batteries with an electric motor and having a fantastic car with *way* less issues and cost. I doubt I'd ever do that but I could see the next generation doing it.
Regarding your last couple of sentences... It is already happening! There's a couple close to me that have a Karmann Ghia and a early 50's pickup truck that have both been converted to electric power. The guy is an electrical engineer. The really cool thing about both vehicles is that they still use their original manual transmissions! They were trying to sell the KG a year or two ago and the price was $25-30k, if I remember correctly. I've seen them together at a local Cars & Coffee and just the other day saw the truck coming out of the Home Depot parking lot.

Hi! You may want to consider reverse cleansing your cooling system using warm Evaporust and a pump. Do a search on this forum. Matt Harwood and Ed Minnie endorse it and have had much success using this process. Good luck with your Nash! I like it! Greg

How hard would it be to find the correct wheels?
Would the correct wheels work on the newer axles?
Did 1924 Franklin's have dual side mounts?
