  2. 20170104_205234-001.jpgThanks Al for providing the information on the holes inside the silencer. I thought the same thing about noise or another thought is a way to divert moist air before it enters the filter.   I guessed the outer cover was screwed on so it can be removed for access to clean a screen. I also expected to see a rusted out screen.   After watching the video I see a housing with nothing inside.  Here are  pictures one with a wrap still on and one with it removed.  I am ok with the general condition I was trying to prevent rust or other type of debris drawn into the engine.  I was going to confirm it was clean inside the silencer.  At this point, I believe some cleaning and a bore scope for a look inside the silencer.  I just picked up a camera that you use with your smart phone.  Who knows I might find Waldo looking back at me.  Could not get second photo to load then two arrived, I struggle with computers.

I am close to done with my 322 engine; I still need some detail work on parts and pieces.   I have looked and have not located any information on the air cleaner silencer restoration, regarding the air horn.  This has screws at the bottom and it looks like the wrap will come off, before I disassemble this, I would like any tips if they are out there.  I would guess it has a metal screen under the wrap; air intake has holes that could drain moisture into this area when running.

    I plan to use the switch this is Carter WCFB tag # 2053S. After reading yours and AL’s post, I went and dug around on a few core units and found this screen. It was not secured in place with a clip; I pulled it out with a pick. After knocking some dirt off, I see it is a screen and not a plug.  Al thanks for the part number and description this helped me figure out what I needed to locate, I even found this in the parts book with the description.  

     I did look on around tonight and did not locate any images.  I would like to locate this screen and clip, Jon do you have any of these parts.   I can clean this screen and come up with a small clip to hold this in place for this carburetor. I like to have spare parts ready to go for future needs.

  5. Thanks for the info, this might explain the extra pulleys. I recall seeing a fan spacer that is short will try and  see if this works. I wish that I had taken this apart would make it much easier to assemble. 

    I will update after the power is back on at home, we had freezing  rain power lines down all around the place.

  6. After digging through my boxes of parts, I cannot find the pulley needed that fits the water pump. I have single sheave pulley’s, I cannot explain why I have three of these and not a double sheave set up. This is another example of purchasing a car in a box. 

     Fits 1953 Roadmaster with power steering, I am not sure if a 54 or 55 pulley would work.  Let me know what you have.

    connecting rods, for a 322 casting # A1343144. Part number in parts book is 1390955

    Also looking for a source of rod bolts and nuts for 53 322

    I have a box of parts for a 322 engine, they were supposedly out of a 53, little unsure because part number in parts book and casting # are not the same? I still need 3 rods that match; somehow, three of mine are bent. I figure a stuck engine in the past and a big hammer when pulled apart. Any info on interchanging will be great info.

    I did not attend the judge school, if I recall the sign said for judges. I did not want to be the person in the room asking questions, while you are training judges for the event. We have all been in meetings with a newbie, and it just slows down the process. Is there a class, this how we judge cars?

    Thanks for the offer and advice I will take you up on the help. I have been focused on correct clips and weld lines and such. I had visions of mirrors used under the cars. Examples of correct cars will be a struggle, not many if any here in Oregon. Sometimes it is like living in the desert and looking for water, when it comes to Buick cars. Knowing that the correct clip holding a fuel would be nice but not needed is good info.

    This was my first meet and I want to understand the process, I always say no stupid questions. I would love to see the hobby grow. Removing questions or mystery will help me any others, maybe someone in Oregon is reading this and also wants a correct Buick.

  9. I have been following this discussion; I would like to add a few things.

    I am a relative new member and attended the Portland show. I did not show a car, I wanted to see the judged cars and understand how the judging process works. I also wanted to meet active Buick club members. I am working on a project now; we all know it is expensive and time consuming restoring cars. 400-point car most likely not in my future, driven class is my passion. My goal was to take pictures of the correct cars and bring this info home. All the owners were very easy to talk with and forth coming with info. I was able to take photos and learned many things. One thing I did learn many of the owners were unsure off what to expect, what a judge views as correct and how the deduction’s work. I found this surprising, when you see the passion and effort put forth.

    The Portland show was great fun; everyone is very easy to talk with. This will bring people back. I have been to many local car shows and they are also fun, they are a different type of show however. I have seen cars on trailers in the restoration process and loved to see them. This exposes people to the full spectrum; I say bring all-qualifying types of Buicks to your shows.

    I would love to see a video of a car being judge and an explanation how the process works for each class. This would help many others and me, I know I will have many question as I work on my project, this might keep others and me from doing things incorrectly. We know how much that can cost.

    You have a great club going, keep up the good work, I have seen this in Portland.

  10. Hello to all, my name is Steve I love the old car hobby. I cannot remember if I have every introduced myself so here it is. I now have time for my projects with the kids out of the house. I have been looking around on this site and I am impressed with the cars and projects. I look forward to driving my projects; I try to add about 2K miles a year in my one car, which is complete. I now have the floor cut out of my 53 Buick, floor braces repaired and going the other way. I will post a few photos when I figure out how.

  11. Working on 53 Buick Roadmaster floor.

    I would like some help on the ends for the floor braces, these are spot welded to the rest of the brace. Broken body bolts OK just looking for rust free. I know this is a long shot. The plate the seat bolts to would help also. Here are a few pic of the braces. You can see the plate the seat bolts onto. Any info on how many years could fit would help my search.

  12. I am in the process of checking the numbers on my engine. I am confident this is a 1953 block it has the timing hole in the back. Stamp numbers VII0330 at the oil filter area I can find no reference for this number. The stamp # on the L/H side is VII03307 from what I have found the 7-points to Roadmaster. Cast # is 1343388-2. I also see a tube in the cam galley it looks like it is in rough shape. I would think pressure testing this tube for leaks is a good idea. I do not want an internal oil leak and starve the cam or top end. Has anyone seen issues with this tube?

    I also have been looking for info on the crank, it has casting number # 734299 on another weight it has # GMB28.

    Water cross over tube has casting number # 1185400-18 have looked in my parts book and struck out. Is this correct for 1953. My intake casting numbers are correct for 53 4 barrel, I have been looking for info on correct carburetor and it is a tough to ID where do I find this info? When I purchased my Buick, it had the engine pulled apart and in boxes with other engines.

  13. 1953 Buick Roadmaster - Skylark

    I have a 53 Buick 322 block and that is about it, just sorting out parts now. This car has been apart for years and moved around. Previous owner has lost many of the parts under the hood. My question is what year of 322 internal parts will fit this block. I also will need to come up with heads and the correct intake and carburetor. I want correct casting numbers if possible for the engine. I also have two Dynoflow transmissions what is the best way to tell the year of this. I have boxes and boxes of parts, many of them fit other cars. I have a few intakes and carburetors.
