  1. So far, the help I got from this forum has been invaluable and I thank you. I have an 89 8v with 9,500 miles. I have fixed all the common problems and I am wondering about the head gasket. It runs fine. I had a 85 lebaron with the 2.2 turbo and had to do the head gasket at about 65,000 miles. I am wondering if any preventive maintenance would help such as torqeing the head bolts or putting a sealer in the coolant would be a good idea. I will probably only put 2,000 miles a year on it.
  2. Didn't know about the 87-88 Shelby. Good to know.
  3. Bill, I don't know where you live but n expense paid trip to any place warm in the Winter once a month would be great. (I don't have a piano but thanks for the offer.) The fuel filter and fuel lines are a good idea. Thanks again. Bob
  4. Thanks for all the info. I will look again. My car has 9,500 miles and there doesn't seem to be any rust at all underneath it so I may not have as much trouble. All parts look like new. That would be a good time to flush out the old fluid. Any tips on that? I did a similar job on my l985 Mark Cross Convertible with 70,000 miles and my acetylene torch came in handy. I will order the other hoses but may not do the job until May when I get back from Texas. Cold here in Pa. and my garage is unheated. I head South right after New Years. Thanks again.
  5. I am preparing to install new hoses on my 89 TC 8v. I have ordered the front ones but have got conflicting info on the rear. Mine has 4 wheel discs and I thought all TC's had them. It is a short hose (6 or 8 Inches long) and has a "banjo" connection on the caliper end. The parts houses show an "inner or lower hose" which does not have the banjo connection as well as the upper hose with the banjo connection. Did some TC's have drum brakes on the rear? Is there another rear hose that I don't see?
  6. A couple weeks ago I found a post from someone who did a very nice job of installing a hood liner on a red TC. There were several very good pictures. I saved them on my computer but they "disappeared". I have spent a couple hour looking thru the threads and can't find them. Can anyone help?
  7. I have a cabernet 89 TC. I checked with the Chrysler dealer and no luck. I have looked on the internet and not much luck. I did find a company called Dr. ColorChip that looks promising. Does anyone have any experience with this co. or any other recommendations?
  8. I bought a 1989 8v with only 9,500 miles. It has probably been sitting a lot. The tach does not go back to zero when it is not running. It rests at about 1100 RPM's. When running it seem to be OK. I noticed that some TCs shown on ebay seem to have the same problem. (I assume they are not running because the ammeter is at zero.) Is this normal? When I got it the gas gage was about half. I filled it up and it went to empty. Later it seemed to be OK. I finished reinstalling the seats after repairing the power seat controls today. I appreciate all the help I got from the Forum.
  9. Thanks to all of you. The console is ready to be reinstalled. Another question. I have an 89 SOHC with 9,500 miles. It has gold center wheels. I have never seen a TC with these wheels. I don't think they are after market wheels and they don't look like they are painted. Was this an option?
  10. Thanks! I now have the seats out, all screws are out and the button on top of the shifter is removed. I am not clear on the green cable and bolt for the shifter under the console. Do they have to be disconnected? Does the shaft come out with the console?
  11. Most of the posts on hood liners seem to be old. I just got an 89 that has no hood liner at all. It is a low mileage car and I want to take care of it. From the posts I have read, the OEM liners do not last. I have researched them and it seems like an acceptable solution would be to use Dynamat and cut to fit. I am presently in Texas now and do not have the car here so I can't even see how the factory liner attached. There has been some reference to a template in the old posts. Can anyone give me a lead on how to get one. I will be going back to Pennsylvania in a month and I want to install some type of liner as soon as I get there.
  12. I would like to get the pattern for it as well. How do I go about it?
  13. The Infinity radio in the car had another wire and "some device" attached to the back of the radio at the ground strap connection. I have not been able to pin the noise down to one of the 8 speakers. I have had several Chrysler products and many different radios but none ever had the extra wire at the ground strap connection. The radio I installed worked fine in a previous car. Could this be my problem? Also, is it worth trying to get the Infinity radio fixed?
  14. Thanks. I will probably not start working on it until November. I will keep you in mind. Do you have any other parts? Sounds like I will be needing a new amp or speaker also.
  15. Thanks! -- I can only think of one other thing at this time. Can you recommend a treatment for the leather seats. When I was looking for the TC , every one I found (with ginger seats) was in poor condition. These are almost pristine and I want to take care of them properly.
  16. I just purchased 89 Chrysler TC with 9,400 miles on it. Several minor (I think) problems. The power seat buttons have become detached from the wood grain plate on the console. They work but I want to remove the woodgrain or console to find some way of attaching them. The Infinity radio did not work and I put another Chrysler radio that I had. It did work but had way too much base and the speakers rattled. Then I connected a MP-3 that plugs into the cigaret lighter and play thru the FM. The sound was perfect. Do I have a bad amp or what. If so, where is the amp and how do I get to it. How do I take out the instrument cluster. The bulb on the Right turn arrow does not work. Also the tach needle does not go back to zero when I shut the engine off. Any help you can give me will be appreciated.
  17. Thanks for the info. Do you have an opinion on the 3.0 engine.
  18. Your car is the right color for me but I am a little hesitant about the 16v engine and I am not sure that I want a 5 speed. If it were close to me, I would probably look at it. If I change my mind as my search continues, I will keep it in mind. It seems familiar. Did you advertise on Ebay this Summer?
  19. Thanks for the advice. I did replace my head gasket at about 65,000 miles. Only problem I have had with mine in 5 years was the hall effect pickup, a inner tie rod end and some oil leaks. I think I prefer to stay with an automatic. Is my assumption that the 89 with a 2.2 8v could not have come from the factory with a 5 speed correct?
  20. I have been thinking of buying a TC for some time. I presently have an 85 Chrysler Town & Country convertible with the 2.2 turbo and think it is a nearly bullet-proof engine. I don't think that I want the 16 v engine but would be interested in opinions about the 2.2 vs the 3.0 as some of those I see for sale are 1990's. I know the 2.2 is not an interference engine and I think the 3.0 is. That would seem to be another advantage of the 2.2. There has been an 89 for sale on Ebay with the 2.2 8v and a 5 speed. I thought that the 2.2 only came with the automatic but I did read about a conversion made by someone. Also, there is no hard top with it and I would definitely want one. I would appreciate any opinions about the engines and any other advise as well. If anyone knows of something good for sale near Western PA, I would appreciate that info as well. Budtee
