  1. Over this past weekend I attended and enjoyed the Motor Trend Auto Show in Richmond, VA. This is for new cars and trucks of course and most major cities have some version of this event.

I was really surprised to see there was NO Cadillac display. The rest of the GM was there, Buick, Chevrolet, GMC all nicely displayed. Lincoln had a big presence as did the imports.

Any thoughts? Just didn't seem right that 'The Standard of the World' was not represented at least in Richmond!

    :(

  2. What is a Paige?  I have heard the name but know nothing about them.

Quality car from Detroit, Jewett was also part of them (named after company president at the time) - around 1927 - the Graham Bros bought the company - (Graham-Paige of course.)

The Paige-Daytona 6 was a 'roaring twenties' type of roadster - they are pretty neat! They had an extra seat in a drawer gizmo that pulled out of the passenger side. I'm sure there are pictures of one somewhere on line or in books.

I like the little window 'awnings' on this sedan - reminds me of Mr. Hooper's store!

  3. My 14 year old twin sons have Lionel trains, attend Hershey when we can, ride bikes, go camping, play music, shoot guns and both just won the youth award from our local AACA region for the second time! They also have ipads and an X-box. We attend the monthly events our car clubs put on when our busy Boy Scout schedule permits.

I'm not bragging, though I am very proud of them. Familes are busier now! I don't think anyone is intentionally losing interest or that anything is necessarily wrong with the hobby, any hobby.

It is difficult to make time for everything you want to do along with what you have to do, work, school, etc. Same goes for the financial end. There are always bills to pay, mom and dad work in many cases and what is left over has to be spent carefully.

They called me 'new blood' when I joined AACA 29 years ago! Since then I've been President of two different Regions and worked on a variety of projects, shows & tours on the local and national level. I am truly thankful for the many friends I made and experiences I had. Again not bragging - there have been many stories like mine over AACA's 80 years.

Deep breath - it's built - they will come!

    Now cheer up darn it!

  4. DARRINS.pdf

I took this photo at the Chemung Valley Region AACA show in Hornell, NY in 2001. The picture was used in the 2002 AACA Calendar, (September.) All three cars are Darrins, two Kaisers and a 1940 Packard Darrin. (#40 of 41 built?) At the time all three were owned by CVR members. Last I heard the two yellow cars are in the Demurs collection in Canada, the mint green Kaiser is still in the Corning, NY area.
(You may have to adjust the photo some - I'm not a good scanner.)

  5. It is a tough topic for sure and unfortunatley I've lived it too. One thing is to make sure someone knows what you have, where it came from, how it works and what it may be worth money wise. "I had no idea Uncle Buck had all this stuff, we've never set foot in the barn." There are always vultures to be sure but you can limit their influence if you make arrangements in advance. Maybe set up a special Administrator that just handles the 'collection?'

Give it all away before you go - you'll have control over who gets it and you can enjoy watching them share your passion!
