  1. Thanks, i might also need to touch you when I figure out what I'm gonna do about my CV joint. It's loose and probably needs to be replaced but my local mechanic doesn't want to touch it with a 10foot pole so I've ordered a new service manual (i was missing that portion in mine) on how to replace the joint. The joint itself is 20 bucks but replacing it might be a nightmare. thx guys
  2. I totally forgot to check oldbuickparts.com and it looks like they have em. thx guys
  3. Hey guys, I'm trying to find some replacement rear brake drums for my 64 Electra 225, does anyone have any ideas where I should look. The internet is not coming up with much. And my local NAPA is stumped. Thx
  4. Just giving everyone an update....she has been running GREAT since the little tune up on the carb. Since Saturday was so nice here we decided to drive the car while we went antique looking. We drove about 85 miles and it has never ran stronger. Today she's in the shop getting a completely new exhaust system put on, so I'm looking forward to that. The guy doing it had a 60s buick so he's putting the exhaust back to factory Also on Friday I had the local stereo guys put a new radio in the car. They did an excellent job, they built out a custom made box for the glove box and mounted it inside the dash, so the stock radio and dash are completely untouched. They also fixed both of my speakers (front and rear). I couldn't have been more happy with the work. I"m finding out more and more as I do stuff on this car to seek out the local people when having work done on it. The work is alot cheaper and of higher quality.
  5. Hey guys just a quick update. I did all the tests from above found that the value doesn't close all the way, I adjusted the choke stove and now she runs GREAT! I can get in without any hesitation or sluggishness and drive right off without a cut-off.
  6. Pictures!!! argh I have no idea why their all upside down..on my computer and on my phone their all right side up.
  7. Does anyone know where to find a manual online for e-download. The manual I have skips chapter 3 which is where the carb adjustments are. It would be the 64 buick chassis service manual.
  8. We are having an ice storm right now but as soon as it clears up I'm going to go out and mess around with this...I'll take bunches of pictures before I change anything thanks ;-p
  9. I have a video earlier in this thread but not a close up picture or a picture with the air cleaner off. I will do that this weekend when I can get outside and "play" I don't have a shop so i have to wait until it's not raining
  10. Actually this helps alot...i'm going to mess around with it some this weekend. On that first picture where is the choke stove..i don't see the little arrow
  11. No i don't know about any of that...I do however know where the screw is to make the car idle faster
  12. Do you happen to know where the fast idle is on my car or where to set it at? The manual i have doesn't include that section.
  13. I didn't understand a word of what you just asked..lol Also does anyone have the manual for this car. The manual I have downloaded starts at section 8 which does not include anything about the engine or idle or choke settings.
  14. Is it something i should be overly worried about? or just add it to the "flavor" of driving a 50 year old car
  15. Question for you all: When I first start the car for a drive I always wait until the "COLD" light goes off, but it seems that even right after that if I press on the gas it totally chokes out and cuts off. Is that normal for an older car? I've been told that is it but I wanted to check with the experts When you first pull out of the drive way you have to ease (and I mean ease) the gas or it will cut off, once I make it to the stop light at the end of my street it doesn't need to be babied like that anymore (which is why I'm assuming that it's just cold)
  16. I wish I had the setup to put an exhaust on the car and the ability to do a tune up on it. Like you I'd hate to take it to someone and spend crazy money for labor but I really don't have the tools or experience to do that type of work on the car.
  17. I wish I knew a mechanic in the Charlotte nc area that I could take her too for a good once over. He runs fine but it prolly would be a good idea to get a check up
  18. Hey guys, I've been saving up some fun money and I want to start working on the car for this year. I really need to take her and get a proper exhaust system put on I've already got the paint and body work lined up Still trying to find some rally wheels for it Still need a power antenna Seats need redoing Needs a new heater coil but I think that is well outside my abilities...thought? Also what should I do about the chrome on the side those thin pieces are pitted to hell and back Time to start getting it ready
  19. you guys can't make fun of my wheel covers anymore..ha!
  20. Had a great time saturday and i picked up an awesome plate for the car.
  21. Hope to see you guys out at the show on Saturday in Concord NC.
  22. Took ole girl out today for a ride around town, this has been the first day it's not poured rain all day. (altho it has since started raining) Got some little portable speakers for my iPhone and hooked them up with the Satellite Radio running on the 60s channel. So fun riding around town with era appropriate music playing, it adds the whole mood to the fun. Anyways, all in all we did another 30+ miles today with no issues what so ever. So I think we should be fine to drive to Concord for the show at the end of the month.
  23. So yesterday was the first semi-clear day we've had in a while, so i decided to tinker with the antenna some more to see if I could fix it. The electric motor is now totally shot, when I got it out of the car and got the cap off it's just totally gunked up with crud and rust. I found these kits locally Buy Metra Power Antenna CF-PW22 at Advance Auto Parts it says its a universal antenna, but we all know how that goes. Has anyone ever used one of these kits on an old car? The store won't let you return it and it's 60 bucks so not something you can eat. Ideally I'd like to find the motor and antenna off a 64 buick to replace mine, but i've looked everywhere and can't find one.
  24. Still hunting for door jam switches. I cleaned the ones I have as best as I could and now the passenger side half way works, but the drivers side was just a pile of rust and dust so it's totally shot. Also still hunting for a power antenna mast....so hard to find this thing.
  25. This weekend I hope to take the car to a cookout, it's about 30 miles away. We're gonna try it, I've already put about 100 miles on it since I've had it with no issues, but this will be the farthest I've driven in one trip.
