  1. The first picture is me in 1974. I had borrowed my friends 1911 White 40hp for a car run. After that I had to have a brass car!

The second pic is me working on my 34 Dodge convert. in about 1976. I had just got it. the 3rd pic is the Dodge in 1985 on the set of the movie Natti Gann. Still have the Dodge and it looks the same!

The 4th pic is my 12 Oakland 40 that I restored from junk from 1976 to1987. We were on tour in about 2007.

The last picture is from this summer. I'm standing in front of my 1914 Premier 6cyl. Big, powerful car. A real hoot to drive.

Still have all those cars and maybe a few more!

    Ok, I'm in ....

1963 ... the family with our 1927 Auburn, two years after dad bought it from the original owner.  I'm on the left.

1978 ... delivering my bride to our wedding.  My siblings did likewise in the 70s.

2017 ... Taking Dad for his last ride in this car.  He and the Auburn were both registered in December, 1926.

2017 ...  taking my grandkids in a parade,.  Same car, same jackets.

2019 ... some things don't change: same wife, same car.

I've done this on a restoration:  the original springs of a lightly sprung, same era convertible car were failing and I had good used springs from a heavier sedan parts car.    In my example they were all only one leaf heavier than the originals.    The used sedan springs brought the convert back up to factory height and actually gave a better ride because they controlled side sway.

In your case, adding multiple leaves may have happened from a larger Chrysler sedan.  But addition by 3 leaves certainly sounds like too much.

I thought that may be the case too except the sedans also had 7 leaf springs. My plan is to take the springs out, remove the extra leafs and see what I'm left with. If they were just sagging then maybe I can get them re-arched. I did that years ago to another car I restored. Last resort will be new springs as Keiser31 has suggested.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions.

  4. I bought my roadster last year in restored condition. I'm finding the ride very rough. When I checked out the springs I found the fronts had 10 leafs and the rear had 9. According to the owners manual all models came with 7 leafs all around! What's going on!! I'm wondering if anyone can verify how many leafs should be there. I'm not sure the manual applies to all body styles.  Anybody got a CM6 roadster that could check out their springs for me?

    Thanks

    Hi Ken,

Thanks for getting back. Great! I have a complete original air-cleaner from my 1930 Chrysler Imperial series 80 project car in excellent shape and condition, ready to mount on. I am asking $500 and happy to arrange delivery via USPS or FedEx ground to your door step and would acknowledge a bitcoin payment. What's your complete shipping address?

    Many thanks again and regards,

Obviously a scam.  Bitcoin payment??? really...

    I played along and asked
Send me a picture of your air cleaner with a tape measure showing the intake diameter, the helmet diameter and the overall length. I need to see the tape on all 3 dimensions

Of course I never heard back

  7. I've measured up the tank in my car and discovered it's the same dimensions as the tank in my 34 Dodge. Tanks Inc make the Dodge tanks. They are $265 in steel. The only unknown at the moment is how close the filler tube lines up. I called them and the sedan tank filler appears to be in the same spot as my Chrysler. The sending unit is in a different location but that isn't going to be an issue. I've ordered a tank so we'll find out if it will work. They are in stock at Tanks Inc.

  8. I bought a very nice roadster last year. It's 95% restored. Unfortunately the gas tank was coated years ago and now the coating coming off and plugging up the gas line. Does anyone know of any reproduction tanks available? I don't think it can successfully cleaned out. Or does anybody have a good source on getting a tank made?

    thanks Ken

  9. This is a pretty lonely site so I thought I'd make a post.

I've had my Premier now for about a year and a half. I'm really enjoying the big powerful car feel that it has. I've put about 700 miles on it and it just keeps getting better to drive. Did a 50 mile run for lunch today and it never missed a beat. The wire wheels are now cream instead of brown which really helps the look. Booked into the 800 mile Pathfinders Tour in June and a few more 300 mile tours over the summer. It's going to be a good year!
