Looking at some old notes I find a 5x5, supposedly his first production engine offered to the trade 8-1-06 article...
Next is 7-1-08 squib ad listing two: 4 x 41/2 25 HP and 41/2 x 41/2 32 HP...the ad implying the 5 x %5 gone and the two the whole line...
Last before sale is larger but still small 12-30-08 ad adding a 4 x 4 20 0 HP...
Ra;ph did seem to like square engines..somewhere in thetr was also the usual startup engine builder commrent "will build engine to your specs"...
Some quick superficial Googling didn't find anything about what happened when GM took over---
did they continue to produce Ralph's above engines until parts ran out,or just junk them a la Wauk/small LeRoi??
were any of the GM-Northway engines hybrids, or all completely GM's own
creations??

To start, if you;re no already a truck g look for a Stirling club or old truck group for advice, parts sources and/or sympathy..
A parts catalog says your DW-13 came with a Wauk FU (no typo!)...but check for a small ID plate attached to block, take off info and check Wauk Eng Hist Soc f or advice but no parts..(WEHS.org..or is it net?)...
Let us know how much experence you have at this so we don't waste time on things you aleady know
OOPS-local public library will probably have nice Stirling history in copy of either Mroz Truck Ency or Georganos big Wolld Truck Ency...
-
Again, a bit late, but if you're new to this hobby/obsession Diamond T was an "assembled" truck, meaning they used off-the-shelf parts from individual parts suppliers, like a 36 engine parts catalog showing it with a Herc JXA motor...
I think the website went to Facebook, but there'll be a Club to join, which'll have other owners and tons of advice and parts sources...Good Luck (you'll need it!!)
-
A bit late, but the oil seal problem is familiar---if still need help try reposting in Technical as Jordan with Contl engine with the described problem and you should get immediate replies...
-
I see a Durant A22 listed for 21-25, using a Cont'l Special 4 that I believe is unique to that model.. for that or any other old Cont,l the place to start is Montes Eqpmt in IL.They,ll come up on Google

MP was apparently in the export business, as some years ago one turned up in Au where it'd been confused with the Brit Perkins engine line...
I'd guess 90% of engine people would've heard of Perkins engines rather than M-P...

My old Wisc engine list shows J, JAU 4 cyl I have no reference for, JOU, JR/JRM (marine?) and JU. all the 5.100/51/10...
-
Did you ever ID the engine etc?
-
Should've remembered to add to check with Monte's Eqpmt, longtime supplier of obsolete Cont'l parts, generally the first place to start for Cont'l questions...they did state son e years ago they were weak om pre-1920, but they might've meant parts and not info...
Our old contact there was Garrad (Gerry/Jerry) Moon, but can;t find my old email lists...
In addition to selling the Hudson engine (I'm sure dozens have asked that question) you might ask if he has any info on the M, listed as a 4" bore in the 1917 catalog (stroke? what used for--auto/truck/ other??)
-
If anyone out there has a copy, would you be kind enough to see if it mentions the "other" Continental---Continental Engine Co, Chicago and Danville, Il??
They sold engines in competion circa 1905-1913 or so (CECo claimed 1895 as their start), There is at least one trade journal with a 1/2 page ad by one, the other half of the page an ad by the other, both with engine illustrations!!
CECo advertised heavily for awhile, both HO and verticals, and seems to've gone into CycleCars and died out 1913-15 or so.
Don't recall finding any litigation; just idle curiosity.
-
Having trouble with site-two previous tries blinked out
Cont'l too popular to chase makes---try AACA Historian/Library, HET Club ditto probably lest bet. Also is Cont'l History book, may mention..
Believe your engine 4x41/2=226??? If so, coni'l issued few 4x---only two in 1917 ring catalog .
Try inquirug for circa 1911 or so 4 cyl 4" bore Cont'l and see what comes up.

In the three year interim I've sold off my pre WWI stuff but do have scribbled notes original Model 20 had Budas, but no mention whether off-the-shelf engine, designed by Buda to Hudson specs or designed in-house and just built by Buda.
Also say1911 Model 33 engine, presumably state of the art at the time, designed in-house and just manufactured by Continental.
Assume you member HET club; otherwise only suggestions are checking with UK source--Hudson had later presence in UK but no info on earlier.
Also could move inquiry to either Hudson or Continental Motors forums below for wider exposure (or notes therein to see your post in Parts Wanted if allowed).
You might ask the Club if they have any info on possibility Cont'l may've sold the Hudson engine for other than cars/trucks (Ind'l, road const, Ag, etc)) either during Hudson use or after Hudson went to 6, under some Comt'l model #_
AAAH- found my Hudson=Railton book.., says exhibited iew 40 HP sux at "Olympia Show" 1913, so good chance exporting earlier.

Forgot to mention several trucks that have websites or Facebook pages: Brockway, Diamond T, Federal, GMC/Chev/GMC, Velie, and, Ward La France.
Good places to start looking.

Your CSeries seems to be C, TA, CA-C4 if it exits, CCA, C2, C4, and maybe T6.
CA, CCA,C4 issued in 3 3/4 and 4 1/8 bores others appear 4 1/8. Monte's maybe able to advise if suitable substitutes if no C is available.
CA-C4 may be listing where engines options or if C4 replaced C2.
CA-C4 in over 100 trucks per my list up through 1923.
-
Just out of curiosity, ask other 7r owners if they know Y the 7R disappeared so quickly...a fatal flaw? Or just underpowered and board out to 3 3/8?
-
Your 7R quickly replaced by 8R, a 3 3/8 using same valves and bearings. Davis and many others in PF's list above used both. Auburn Elcar and Moon have clubs, members there should be able to advise if 8R dropin fit. 8R also used in various trucks to 1931. Bud Tierney

Just noticed the "Rotary"...only one catalog ID's rotaries...
=85 Rotary with Cont;l FA162 variation of 4 cyl F4162/F162/PF162..
125 Rotary with either Cont';G193 or Herd DD198, which sound like diesels but are not covered in my parts bppks...
All Worthington models are listed as numbers, as above,...'
olookimg for a model IU..

Anything on it saying which model compressor???

Rusty: I've got about 450 names on my Cont'l users list, all prewar cars, trucks, buses altho contains a few one-offs, like the prison inmates who built a truck with a Cont'l engine...
And that doesn't begin to count the construction eqpmt etc, probably nearly (or more!!) an numerous...
They had little penetration of early tractors, but there are a few...
My list is made primarily from listings in old car/truck parts catalogs and some from vehicle reports in the literature, so I'm sure it's far from complete to WWII...
Bit there's a complication; see my yesterday post in the Cont'l Motors forum re' the other "imitation" Cont;l, The Continental Engine Co (189?/190?---1914 or so)
I don;t know of any supposedly compolete list... list..;.

Those of us in the hobby (compulsion/obsession??) for years take some things for granted, such as everyone knowing about Cont'l engines...a Peerless owners request for info reminded me that wasn't true for everyone...
"Our" Cont'l started 1903? or so---believe they had 2 Cyl verticals in a 1903 auto show---as Autocar Engineering Co. Chicago. and later became Cont;l Motor Nfg co...
There was a SECOND Cont'l---Continental Engine Co, Chicagp, apparently a contemporary---ads appear mid-1905 and perhaps earlier, , and for awhile our Cont;l ads warning of "imitation Cont;ls" being adverised and apparently sold.
There is one trade journal that printed an ad page, each Cont;l having half that sa,me page!!
That Cont'l seems to've died out 1913=14 or so, turning into a Continental Engineering Co.
They advertised a full line of engines and later referred to a factory in Illinois, but my limited research didn't settle whether they were actually a builder or just selling someone elses engines...
Letters to readers repair Q and A in Horseless Age (??) stated one of their engines was in the Van roadster...
They were also involved in a line of "Wastern" and "CE" engines.
As old auto reports sometimes just say "Cont;l engine", there is some doubt ablot early lakes being "our" cont'l users...

This belongs in the Peerless forum here (scroll WAY down)...Models 80/81are listed with Cont'l 8U/18C (same engine series; Models 61/61A show as 11E...don;t know iP Peerless ID'd on tag on block

Per my Cont;l lists (primarily from old parts catalogs, therefor not complete)...
38 Victor gasket catalog lists 12=13=14=15Ks under one set of gaskets..in addition tp the 14K listed for Graham Paige 8 models 827, 835, 937 1928-30 other makes using are:
Davis---12. 13. 14Ks
DuPont, Jordan, Peerless, Ward LaFrance---12 and 14K
Elcar, Mercer, Meteor Hearse ---12K
S&S (Sayers and Scoville--hearses etc)---12 and 15K
Gray Marine marinized the 14K as their Phantom-Cruiser-High Speed 8 (don't know if one model or three))...
If Club doesn't have info re' possible interchange, try Mpnte's Eqpmt in IL. longtime obsolete Comt'l parts dealer. Contact there in years past was Garrad (Gerry/Jerry) Moon, maybe garradmoon@montes@flash.net??)
This should also be posted to Cont'l Motors forum below...
-
Your engine is listed as a Continental 14K, which seems to have only one sister engine, the 12K, neither of which seem to have had much use among other makes...my Cont'l file not at hand but will locate and advise later...
This should also be on the Graham and Paige3 forum here, which has a link to the Club, if you're not already a member or in contact...
OOPS---checked later catalog; looks like the series became 12 thru 15K, with a wider usage...will advise later...Club should know about possibility of interchange...

My apologies for late reply on this---was offline for a bit and missed it...
If you're still there you need to contact the Durant Car Club---if you'll scroll down there a Durant forum here..
W4 and W5 were apparently used solely Durant ; catalogs differ, some show both in Durant anf Star (one of Durant's cars), some W5 just in Star, altho believe some letover?? W5s wound up in combines...
I have nothing on a W5A, but assume it's a variant of the W5, and assume your A and B are works code for some difference in carb, ign or some such..
If Durant Club no help try Monte's Eqp,nt, longtime obsolete Cont'l parts dealer; will cpme up un Google...

Many thxx!!
Oddly enough, after posting I realized m own old parts catalogs might have an answer, but just a bit too late on dates..I did turn up one possible, on, of all things, a Cole 30, which Std Cat lists 1910-11, and a piston catalog shows with a 41/2 with a piston change (or maybe two separate engines)...Kevin will get a laugh out of the coincidence...
