  12. Hi All Im am a junior member currently assembling my 1931 4 cylinder PA engine. Can anybody tell me what the colour of the engine should be as it was when it left the factory. The car is Green in colour and was built in Detroit then shipped for sale in South Africa. Currently the block and oil pan is Blue with a Red cylinder head.
  13. Hi All I have a 1931 Plymouth PA that I am busy overhauling the engine on. The pistons removed measure to 93mm and are marked on the top P21 10258 and stamped 0.20 min os. I checked a friend of mine with the same engine and his also measures up to the same with the same info on the top of the piston. I have just received a set of new pistons ordered from EGGE Machine and on the box is marked E146. When checked on the site it is for a Desoto V8 with bore size 3 5/8 = 92.1mm. These new pistons are also marked 0.20 on the top but when measured I get 92.1mm. My opinion this should measure to 92.6mm My owners manual indicates that my car is 92.1mm ( 3 5/8 ) bore size standard so 0.20" oversize should bring me to 92.6mm. Can any body advise on why the piston from my engine and my friends are the same but measure to 93mm.
  14. Hi I had a look into a gearbox that was stripped and did not see any synchros, therefore suggest double cluch when changing gears

  16. Thanks to all for the advise I have made contact with Egge and await their response. I also did not know about the balancing of the pistons and that info is very useful which Egge will be responding to me on. I received my owners manual that I baught on ebay and am very pleased with the info contained within.
  17. Hi All I am a junior member and currently assembling my engine. i have encountered a problem with one piston and need advise if new pistons are availble. If availible, where can I get them. I would also appreciate if any one can advise on what is an acceptable repair method to have the current piston used again. The markings on the top of the piston is P21 and has a number 10285. On the face ot also shows max OS 0.020 which assume is that tit is 20". The specs in the owners book indicate that it a 3 5/8 bore.
  18. Hi All I am a junior member from South Africa and I am busy restoring my first project. A 1931 Plymouth PA. I have disassembled the engine and had the crank, block and conrods engineered. All parts are cleaned up and ready for assembly but I do not have a repair manual for this car. I was about to start the assembly without it when I discussed with a senior member in my club and he pointed out filling the piston rings to achieve the correct gap. This info suprised me as I am a junior member to this project and was not aware of it. I would not like to assemble the motor without knowing about all the correct checks and tightening references. Please help
  19. Hi Steve Its me the junior member from South Africa that needs a manual for 1931 plymouth PA. Im not sure if I am using this site correctly but I did respond to your offer in the wiring thread by Shadrak. Inserted a pic of the engine when I disassembled it. I would really appreciate any help that I can get with a manual as I have just completed the cleaning and engineering of the block, crank and conrods. I need to begin with the assembly and dont have any tightening specifications. I purchased an Instruction Owners Manual on Ebay and awaiting delivery, but I dont know if the info im looking for is in that. Please assist My email is dsha@toyota.co.za

    1931 Plymouth

Hi Steve I enjoyed your pics on this site and really do appreciate your help. I actually need the entire manual as my intention is to get my car back to the original condition it was when it was first built. The engine assembly section will do for now as I am ready to begin assembling. I would be interested in the torque setting for the bolts and nuts as well as if there is any special procedures required like filing the ends of the ring to get the correct gap ect. ( I was not aware that must be done when assembling as most modern engines the ring gap is preset when yo u buy the set ) Im not sure if this site will display my email adress, so please let me know if so and will then try to determin a different method of getting it to you. my adress is dsha@toyota.co.za

    1931 Plymouth

Hi All I am a junior member from South Africa. I recently purchased my first 1931 Plymouth PA. This car has a 4 cylinder engine that was turning 180 degrees and then locking. I disassessembled the complete engine to find that 3 valves were stuck causing the problem. I dont blame the valves considering that the car was in a warehouse since 1973. I had the block honed, the shims between the conrod and caps removed and then the carnkshaft machined to suite in order to ensure the correct oil pressure. I am now at the stage to start assembling the motor but do not have a repair or owners manual. Where and how can I get my hands on these. if I do get my hands on a manual how will I know if it is the correct one for me.
