  1. One of the reasons I asked what is what is because I am thinking of putting in a signal light switch and seat belts into my 1936 Pontiac Deluxe 8. This would allow my kids to ride in the car and make it easier in the Buffalo Traffic. I have been in other hobbies that sometimes when you change from the norm it upsets people and they stop helping you out. I don't want that to happen in this case because since I have been on here I have received great information and help along my new journey in this hobby.
  2. Rusty, Thanks for the information. You are correct..I was looking to find out where the line was so being a newbie I don't go over it and disrupt anyone's chi..
  3. Does anyone have pics...Where does the spring attach?
  4. Ok here is a question. When do you consider a classic? When does it become a hot rod? When does it become a rat rod? Is a rat rod still a classic?
  5. I have a question. 1936 pontiac Deluxe 8 is the car. Right under the carb is the exhaust flange setup. There looks like a flapper lever that opens and closes. And a spring attached to it. Does anyone have a picture of how the spring is supposed to attach?? Also what is the flapper for??
  6. what do the sealed beam kits look like and how much are they
  7. I will get some closer pics of it in the next day or so and a measurement of the outside diameter. As for taking it off. I am afraid right now if I do that they won't go back together. The buckets have seen better days someone in their wisdom decided to put holes in the top...not straight and put something like a marker light.
  8. wouldn't it be easier to put a 1/4" thk piece of aluminum and then a piece of wood??
  9. Ok I finally took out the indoor carpet on my floor under the drivers and pass feet. The drivers had a nice opening to the battery but nothing covering it. Got to definately cover that. Now the pass side had a piece of Plywood that sits right above the muffler. Wow did I see some serious heat damage to the wood and rug. What is recommended to put on the bottom of the new piece of wood to stop the heat transfer?? Does anyone have a pic of what type of trap door to put ontop of the battery. 1936 pontiac Deluxe 4 door
  10. Matt, I totally agree with checking out similar body styles and paint schemes. I thought I had a set color and found a similar body and the color I thought I would like...didn't like it. It is going to take a while before I actually pick a color. Got to do the body work and definately some wood work after investigation this weekend.
  11. I am looking for a pair of 1936 Headlight Bezels that will work on my Pontiac. Someone has really overworked the set I have and would love to replace. I would even consider a complete set of headlight buckets
  12. I don't know if it not dark enough for the wife. We shall see when it finally comes down to going to the paint store and getting the chips out and looking to see what is what.. This is eventually going to be a car for me and the wife and her opinion is just as good as mine.
  13. Here is another question. White walls....I see 2"..3"..4" white walls. What's the difference besides price.. Now looking at alot of the original cars in the 30's I am seeing black walls. I go to shows and restorations and I seen alot of white walls now Why is everyone putting white walls on their cars...were they an option in the 30's? Is it a bad thing to have white walls and turn them in?
  14. Well being as this is going to be a family car and the wife gave the green light to purchase it she is in on the color. You might be happy to know we are now looking at changing the color to a dark cherry/deep maroon color for the car. Not exactly one of the factory colors but I think dark enough for the period.
  15. Ok when touching up spots on the old girl what is a good spray can primer to use. Or is spray can primer not a good idea? Dupont vs Rustoleum Also ...stripping down to bare metal or just sanding top coat. The car will eventually get a complete paint job. Just want to hit the spots that are showing rust right now. Paint Next winter/spring.
  16. Ok here is a question. I took the old girl out for a drive and was told that it doesn't like to down shift. Is that normal for an older car not to like to go from 3 to 2?? I took it out and it liked to shift from 1-2 around 15 2-3 around 25 Didn't like to downshift. Any help would be greatly appreciated
  17. I have found some Champion plugs and some Autolite plugs. Are these ok plugs to put into the car??
  18. Thanks that has been very helpful. I was worried I would have to be looking for some gaskets for the old straight 8. That might be in the future when the motor needs to be rebuilt but not right away.
  19. The plugs in my flat head 8 are extremely rusty. What is the best way to remove them and replace them? Do I have to remove the head? Fear is that I don't get all the rust with a vacuum and it falls onto the piston. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  20. Wait..I believe the tire size is a 650 16 or a 600r 16. Without going out and checking they are one of those two sizes. You can't just put a radial on the original rims and have it work can you? If so what size is it in a radial? If I were to change rims and tires what size would I use and would it change my speedo?
  21. Ok. I am starting to look into the 1936 Pontiac 4 door. I am removing some of the door panels since they are falling off. I am finding some rotten wood inside them. Does anyone make a kit to remove the old wood and put new stuff in?? Does anyone have a picture of what it should look like with the door panel on and off?
  22. Steve I may take your suggestion. I might not go for the full on paint job this year. But I will have to address the bad paint and rust areas before they become a real problem. There is some wood areas in the doors and newer temp rug to be addressed. But overall the car is in good shape. So this summer it might end up looking like a spotted leopard. Sand...clean...primer...Then sit back and think about paint. The car is on the road and road worthy. Just need to fix a few things and away we go. It might look like a rat rod right now but sometimes there is a silver lining at the end of the rainbow. A little wood...some fabric material...some paint....and glass and it could be back in shape in a little bit.
  23. What is the good and bad to using either of these style tires on an 1936 pontiac?? Bias Ply Radial Yes I know originally the car had Bias Ply. Just asking if it changes the handling or creates any problems with the front end? I know that Coker has replacemtent Bias. Just curious.
  24. From what I have in pictures over the years the original color was grey metalic...then at some time it was painted all green metalic...then in early 80's got painted as you see it now. The faded color is actually off yellow/cream. I asked it's previous owner and that is how he purchased it but the owner before him had let it sit outside with no cover for about 3 years. So this summer I will be living with these colors...then as the summer goes by it will eventually be covered with spots of primer to start working on the rusty areas. The final colors will not be the high gloss colors of today's cars/hot rods. I don't think that would look right. We are looking at an older pewter color. More of a grey and the red will be closer to maroon. I am looking for a paint chip of the original color to see what that actually looked like. By looks of the numbers the car was built late 1936.
