See pic. Cut wires are from cruise, since I removed it from my car during my re-wiring process. Green, white, and red at the bottom.

Tan is parking brake switch light (also cut since I am going to E-Stopp)

Next up is grey (also part of Cruise)

Dark Blue is Speedo Buzzer (also cut because I hate that  fricken thing)

Great!  Thanks much!  That's where I put them!!  My green and red have white stripes, but I'm sure since they come from the engage sw that they are the same ones.

  2. I found an illustration: fig. 10-159 which appears to show wire colors by connection for these bulkhead plugs which will be helpful.  The other question I have is found on the fig. 10-171 chassis wiring diagram, where wire bus connections have letters and numbers below without explanations.  Does anyone know the code?

  3. I think what I need is a photo of this bit from a car with Electro-cruise installed.  I have some open slots that get taken by wires associated with it I THINK.

RED with white chaser (has an intermediate plug in as well)

    GREEN with white chaser

    and

    WHITE

Would be most helpful to have their locations precisely notated.

  4. Hey all, Im in the end stages of installing Electro-cruise into a car that did not have it.  There are only partial provisions for it and the dash loom that was supposed to be tucked away because I do have the guidematic with its accy loom IS NOT THERE.

I bought the missing underdash wiring I needed from a vendor here, but he pulled it out of a box and the installation photos he took are greek to me.

I need to know where the wires from the engagement switch and light go.

The photo below shows an open connector socket with 3 terminals which is up to the left of the brake pedal.

Does someone have a schematic with color codes just for the cruise system? Lacking that can you give me color codes for these 3 connections circled? I surmise they go to the actuator tied into the throttle linkage.

    Thanks!

  5. Yes, you're going to have to do a much deeper dive than I had to.  I will add that there is 1 washer under the drive gear I ended up not needing, so only the bushing and cup washer is used. I'm ambivalent about the RH remote mirror.  I will have to mock it up with tape or have a friend hold it and decide after that, but you're right, should be much easier.  I put a convex RH mirror on my 58 Chevy and use it a lot. That was a "fab job" since they don't offer that for s 58 but do for the 57.  I transplanted the mirror face over.  Ive learned to depend on them in my modern cars.

  6. I’m doing this project now with new metal gears from C.A.R.S.
It looks like one could easily drop the motor, housing, and part of the gear transmission by unscrewing 4 bolts holding it to the top of the housing.  The only thing preventing that is a single bolt which threads in from the interior side of the mounting panel.  (1 of 3 holding the motor in place.)

I’m wondering if anyone has gotten a thin box wrench in behind there to do that.  Seems like it would make life a lot easier, as then you could just lower the drive gear out of its sleeve , clean everything up and put the new one in.

  7. Curious here… does anyone know if there is a matching circular port in the inner door shell on the RH door like the left one?  Not terribly interested in pulling the skin to find out, if someone already has the answer.

I have an “ambidextrous” mirror, which I could mount, if I run out of everything else to do on all my cars…

  8. I will admit that I can dive into some pretty deep minutae with this car, so one of the things that was bugging me was looking over at the passenger door panel and seeing the 9 o'clock "spear" broken off the R emblem of the wood grain panel.

I have checked around and these emblems are pretty much unobtanium.

A couple days ago a fix occurred to me, so I will impart my solution here.

I found a common nail of the same diameter, then ground off about ¼, creating a flat back.  Trimmed it to a matching length and painted it with some terrific chrome paint pens I bought on line.

On a flat surface I glued it to the hoop circle (the emblem had been removed) and let it set up, carefully lifting it off intact.

I then used 3M trim adhesive glue and placed it back onto the wood panel, later  cleaning up the excess with a dental tool.

I think you would have to look close to see the repair.

  9. Success!  Very simple, once I broke the code (not the part!)

    1. Move control joystick to slack the desired cable.

    2. Remove cable end from tiltable trianglar bit.

    3. Slide bare cable wire up into slot.

    4. Remove cable from cable jacket slot, from mirror head end.

    5. Color mark cable and slot for matchup reassembly with paint pen.

    6. Rinse, repeat.

No tools required, at least not in my case.  I incorrectly thought the cable jacket was somehow swedged into place. Not so.  It just bottoms on an interior lip.  Once the tension is released, it just slides up and out.

  10. I have yet to install this mirror or another correct cable length door mounted mirror I got more recently BECAUSE I can't seem to get the cables to release from the pinch portions of the housing right behind the door trim panel.  (replacing the wood trim is another project and cannot happen until I get the mirror control out of the way)  I have color coded everything for the reassembly, but the cable jackets are firmly in place at their door ends.  I have tried to pry the slots apart a little bit with a large flat blade screwdriver, but do not want to break anything.  Does anyone have any advice?  I think the '65 was a redesign from this earlier "stupid" one
