I have seen oil slingers in that area, and some bearings designed in such a way, allowing the oil to pass the bearing in special groves to allow the oil to flow back into the sump At this point I suggest you check the oil pressure and compare it with specs if you can find it. In my Dodge Senior six the oil pressure after starting is constant 40 lbs regardless of RPM. Worn bearings, rod, main or cam will cause oil pressure to drop,It appears to me the rear main is specially designed as a combination of bearing and seal slinger . Bearings in those days were poured babbit and who knows what. I am hoping you are not looking down the road to a rebuild.
Note following reference for Senior six but only used in some cars and 29-30 trucks. Smaller wheel base trucks used the DA-6 and were built by Dodge Bros.
the most notable different was the length of water jacket.

I’ve learned what the warranty tag on my 29 DB 3/4 TON truck indicates. These old truck were not intended to be used for fast travel. They were used as an utility of moving goods. When you have a 5.11 rear end ratio you can not expect cruising in traffic at 55 mph. Some folks have invested in the “Mitchell “ transmission assist to get better top speeds.
You just have to enjoy the journey and ignore the impatient divers.

Per attached pic item number 15 is rear main bearing oil passage. The rear main drains into this sump and If the bearing flow is to much to drain into the pan the sump overflows to bell housing area and drips thru hole.

My 29 DodgeBros DA6 engine may be similar. There is a reservoir at rear of engine. It has a slinger that slings oil at rear of engine. Excess oil should drain to the oil pan thru a tube. Excess oil will drain out. There’s no seal at the back of the reservoir .
These engines are notorious for dipping oil. Even my rebuilt engine dips oil.
I found possible causes to be: excessive oil pressure, improper installation of rear oil pan seal, and worn rear main bearing.
I ran an engine in my truck with unknown history, but it did run. The rear bearing was so badly worn that the oil over flowed and poured out of rear of engine thru hole in bell housing.

Our Thursday hiking group made it up to foothills near Nevada City yesterday. Location is the Cascade Canal trail. Mostly seen here are big leaf maple and dogwood trees.

Here’s a California heater control valve. Not planning to do any real cold weather driving.

There should be some numbers on the bearings. On my 29 DODGE bros the numbers matched current numbers and were available at my local Napa store.
I was amassed that the bearing have been standardized over all the years.

Not sure what was original material used on firewall but I choose to use the coco mat from Restoration Supply. Great sound deadening.

Mine has a wood floor.

I believe Dodge didn’t supply floor mats for 29 trucks but with the cold weather coming I have eliminated some cold drafts.
I got mat material from Restoration Supply. Note the edging material. I used 5/16” rubber tubing. The trick was to split with single cut. See pic of wooden block with knife edge. Placing the 3M mastic was a bit messy.
I also placed a cocoa mat on the firewall. There was a material placed there by factory. Does help quite engine noise

Items to watch are : correct valve clearance, and correct ignition timing. Running tarted may cause overheating. Also make sure all the engine water passages line up with the openings in the head gasket.

Here is a 29 Graham Bros DE chassis with a DA engine. “H” code is DA 6. Guess they were just cleaning out their warehouse of parts. Only things to make it a GB truck rather than a DB truck would be the badging of radiator and hub caps.

My 29 dodge truck has a DA6. It may be similar to yours.
In the picture note spring going to engine floor board. This only spring required.

On the coming cold winter days there’s plenty of time to run thru the scans.
Biggest problem is looking at documents more than once.

I have some Dodge/Graham documents that were scanned into the Dodge Brothers forum. I put them in jpg format and will share this useful information. There no titles on the document on the Dodge Club forum so you have to view individually and decide if it is helpful information.
If anybody finds any other useful documents please post on this site.
