I have seen pics of a 1922 Studebaker touring car front spindle king pin lubricating system with Alemite grease fitting while my 1923 has oilers with cap for oil.  I do not think Alemite grease fittings would work, the old fashioned oilers would be required to accomplish lubrication all the way to the bottom, perhaps I am wrong.  My car also sat for a long time and I am not sure if the king pins were ever removed.  They are tight.

Have a collection of vacuum tanks, mostly 4 bolt Stewart Warner have one 8 bolt.  On the 8 bolt the internal parts seem to be the same (float etc) as other 8 bolts tanks.  Cars like the Packard had very large outer tanks but seemed to have the same internal parts, basically an 8 bolt unit.  My 23 EK has an 8 bolt SW 117-1 tank.  My extra 8 bolt is the same size but has ribs where the bands that mount the unit go, my 23 is smooth on the outside from top to bottom.  Some of my 4 bolt tanks have ribs some not.  Seems to me that the inside workings of the 8 bolt units are the same.  most of the time you cannot read any markings on the top used for identification. 

 

Love them vacuum tanks, they work great and are easy to maintain.

Nice pics,  people tell me that cracks can been fixed, had a cousin in Milwaukee that had a metal stitching company, would travel around fixing large engines that were cracked on very large ships that traveled the great lakes and oceans.  I am lucky I have a big six with no problems.   The engine breaks down into three parts does the big six do the same? 

 

very nice special six, just got my EK and am in a learning faze.  you may have the smaller engine.  looking for a 1923 big six  to play with.

going with blackwall  , not sure 34 x 5 , 33 4 1/2, 32 x 4.   the 32 x 4 on car seem small, they are no skid.

yes, I am new to this, the former owner indicated in his notes that there is 32 x 4 (confirmed) on the car now but originally it came with 33 x 4 1/2.  The car has disc wheels.

 

I was under the impression that it has 24 inch wheels and split rims.  I thought they made tires larger than both of those sizes for 24 inch wheel with the split rim.

I am thinking float not adjusted right, other than that when rebuilding did you soak in something like a heated ultrasonic tank, I have a small one for small carbs and it works wonders, cleans all the jets and seats and idle tubes.

looking at non detergent oils for engines, I see Mineral Oil and Motor Oil.  Never noted that before Is one better than the other?

[Penberthy Ball & Ball SV 12 & 14 Spec Sheets]

I have in my possession a Penberthy SV 14 carburetor which I think came on 1925, I have a 1923 Big Six which should have a SV 12, The model number is unreadable on the carburetor on the car (1923) but the carb looks like a SV 14. Did some 1923's come with SV 14? Anyone got spec sheets on these two carbs?

Pan coming off in morning, going with pin made from 5/32 hardened steel drill bit shank end. 7/8 long.

maybe I will find the other pin in the pan.
