  1. mmh i tried a few times to twist the gear shift knob off, but no way!

any hints how to handle this without damaging the knob itself?

Try some penetrating oil. let it sit a few hours (or days). Of course, you'll want to mask the knob from receiving the oil. Just a bit of oil to seep between the knob and shaft

Apply heat (careful, not too much heat that would melt the plastic) A heat gun on low setting should be quite enough.

    Be sure you're turning anti-clockwise...

  2. The 2bbl vs 4bbl "torque" issue can be tricky. Many 4bbls had a little "stronger" camshaft specs than the similar 2bbl motors. Is affected by the size of the primary throttle bores, too.

In the early '70s, a Chevy 350 2bbl used the 1.69" throttle bore (i.e., big) Rochester 2bbl carb. First time I drove one, I noticed how it ran better than our '69 Chevy CST-10 with a 350 4bbl and 3.73 rear axle ratio. Seemed much more eager at any throttle increase. In almost all cases, it ran easier and "as hard" as its QuadraJet companion, up until about 4000rpm, in normal driving, even in a crewcab pulling a drag race car on a trailer.

In my '70 Skylark 350 2bbl, the 2bbl (small 1.44" throttle bore) seems to run similar to its QuadraJet 4bbl companion, up to about 3000rpm WOT. Just a nice-driving car with the base 2bbl 350 V-8.

    Enjoy!

In my teens, (1970's) I noticed what you have described. The two cars were a 1969 Chevrolet Kingswood wagon 350 cid 4v quadrajet. The other car was a 1970 Impala coupe with 350 cicd 2v Rochester. Neither was equipped with a tach. But, the differences in driving the two cars were much as you described. (That was the basis of my comment above)

  3. I took a look behind my dash,

what I can see confirms Leif's assessment that the Ebay switch is correct.

There's not much room for a camera to get a good photo

    Here's what I got

I don't know how to post a photo fromy phone....

Anyway, as Leif says, that is the correct switch

  4. This story is almost as good as the two brothers who supposedly invented automotive air conditioning, where their names are on the control panel on car with a/c. Their names were Max and Norm.

Ya right and I suppose the third brother was a little Off !

I know a guy that thought "REC" was a setting for 'recreation'

  5. The Roadmasters shared the Cadillac's "cam-o-matic" system. Which has a variable width wiped area.

I believe that the coordinator, is a 1956 feature. The coordinator turned on the wipers when the washer button was pressed.

The coordinated systems do have a different lid on the jar

    Paul,

The routing scheme is a mystery to me. Mine just barely work. I don't think mine are hooked up properly.

I'm off work this weekend. When I venture out, this afternoon I'll get a photo of the switch

  6. Why would a dealership send warranty work away? Aren't they reimbursed by the factory for warranty work?

The factory gets a sizeable discount on labor. The mechanic too, gets paid a discounted wage.

The mechanic may miss out on a higher paying customer job if they give him the warranty work

  7. Mount them with the white letters on the inside of the wheel, so nobody can see them AND possibly pass judgment on your purchase (depending upon which brand they might be). Not unlike buyers who didn't desire whitewall tires in prior times (as it might mess with the owner's outwardly frugal orientation).

    Enjoy!

When forced to get white letters due to lacking supply of black wall tires, I do just that. Have the white mounted to the inside. That doesn't always persuade them to discount the white letter tire to black wall price...
  8. I have been in the hobby since 1971 when I was just a very young boy. I had never heard of the term till the past 5 to 7 years. It has no meaning. Usually applied to a car for sale that needs work and the price is too high from what I see on this site. I hope to never see or hear it again in the hobby. A car is a car. Nothing more and nothing less. It's condition is what is.

    +1

  9. I have never understood why anyone would buy a car and drive away with dealership graffiti all over it. They don't in any way pay you to advertise for them.

I feel the same about white letter tires.

They should pay me the $ for the white letter tires.....
