  1. I don't know how the Buick Club does it, but wisely written by-laws

can very much protect a club. It is best, as I understand it, if voters

can vote for UP TO three people; and then that the by-laws require

a MAJORITY (1 vote more than 50%), not a plurality, for election.

    To illustrate with some exaggeration!

Suppose 4 possible choices are John Smith, Adolph Hitler, Charles Manson,

and Joseph Stalin. Do you really want to vote for 3? If you must vote for 3,

or if only a plurality of votes is needed, some undesirable candidates could

be elected. Suppose the voting came out like this:

    Smith: 100 votes

    Hitler: 3 votes

    Manson: 4 votes

    Stalin: 2 votes

Smith, Hitler, and Manson would be taking office--because only a

plurality, not a majority, was required!

The right to ABSTAIN from a vote--voting for up to 3,

not mandatorily for 3--is a privilege that should be protected.

And that must be coupled with a MAJORITY needed to elect.

An extreme example , as you said.

but, it's that thinking that brought the question to my mind

  2. I did some battery post maintenance on the Roadmaster, F250, and the Durango.

cleaned them up with a wire brush. Installed the little felt doo-dads. And applied some pink protectant spray

I replaced the Durango's painted grill with a bright grill

    then,

I drove the Roadmaster around the neighborhood, after I washed the dust off her.

Maybe tomorrow I'll go fill up with some of the good non-ethanol gasoline, one county south

  3. Better to go west. The east has a lot of rotted junk if it has been outside. Especially the not so great North East. Dandy Dave!

Los Angeles California, Las Vegas Nevada, Grand Canyon Arizona. Are where the rust free junk yards (car breaks) are found.

    yes that's what I research.

    thank you :)

  4. But there are 3 vacancies.... I appreciate that you want to help your prime candidate win but what about the other 2 vacancies. I am voting for 3, in hopes that the 3 that I feel to be the best of the six who are running will win. I am sure your prime candidate appreciates you sentiment but I am betting he would also appreciate folks voting for other candidates who might share some of his ideas and stand on the same platform.

    You see MY point? :)

Yes, I do. And it is a very valid point it is.

And, I would like to elaborate on my point,

I belong to a local association of professionals.

That association has a very similar board of six at large members serving two year terms.

Each year, three of the seats terms' end. And those three seats are filled in a very similar manner, where voters are allowed to vote for three candidates.

In the election that my candidate lost by two votes, I realized that two of my votes kept him out of a runoff.

    edit;

I am betting he would also appreciate folks voting for other candidates who might share some of his ideas and stand on the same platform.

JohnD1956, are there candidates that you would so consider?

  5. Three people will be elected. You can vote for one, two or three candidates. You cannot vote for the same candidate 3 times. We are not in Chicago.

If your spouse is a member and their name is on the mailing label, they get a vote too.

Thank you, that answers my question. You see my point about casting three votes would be casting two votes AGAINST my candidate.

And, you anticipated and answered my next question (3 votes for one candidate, NOT Chicago ;-D )

There are three vacancies each election.

So John, you'll be getting one vote from me. And I will NOT be voting AGAINST you.

  6. What Willie says is right.

I just went out to crank mine. It's been less than 48 hours since I drove it. It took several minutes of cranking before it fired (crank ten seconds rest for 30 seconds).

I've got to put an electric fuel pump on mine.

That cranking to fill the carburetor is a lot of wear and tear on the starter and battery. ...

After cruising Saturday, on the way home, I found a non-ethanol gasoline station. I topped off there (8 gallons).

I'm going to start making a regular trip toward that gas station

  7. Back in 1962 I bought my 1956 Bel-air convertible with Power-Pak off the Used Car Lot at Reedman Chevrolet in Langhorne, PA.

There was a race track (Langhorne Speedway?) directly behind the dealership and customers were encouraged to take potential purchases out to the track.

In 1969 I went into Import Auto Sales in New Orleans to buy a set of Driving Lights and Fog Lights to install on my wife's 1967 Toyota Crown Station Wagon. We drove the wagon to Grand Isle, Louisiana from New Orleans every Friday night, and had to deal with heavy fog. Jack didn't have any lights in stock but tossed me a set of keys to a 1967 Citroen DS-21 which had all of the lights mounted on the front bumper. He told me to take the car for the weekend to check out the intensity and pattern, and if I liked them he would order me a set. That next Monday I bought the DS-21, and have owned many more Citroens since.

A good sales person knows when to stop talking and let the product do the talking, and when to dangle - and when to set the "hook".

those Citroen DS are cool cars !

  8. French is difficult for me to speak. And, still more difficult for me to understand spoken French.:confused:

I understand better when I read French. And, I can write a phrase or two.

I do understand what you wrote:D.

I am a student of Spanish and I understand your difficulty of translating. I have that difficulty translating my first language (English) to my second language (Spanish).

Sometimes in English "line" can also mean "string". But, in the case of automobile assembly, it is 'line'.

    And,

alas, alack, there are no 1969 Buick models...

Sometimes I see a 1955, but not often.

    You have to keep looking,

or as we say in America "keep your eyes peeled":)
