  1. Welcome to the wonderful world of old Buicks, 39buickcoupe. Always nice to have a new '39 owner on the site. There are some really good folks here that know a lot about '39 Buicks and are willing to share their knowledge. Here is a link I found interesting when I was looking for information about my '39 coupe: Classic Car Database, Specifications, Dealers, Parts and Services for Antique Cars, Classic Cars, Vintage Cars and Muscle Cars.

We look forward to some photos and progress reports as you get into your project. Don't hesitate to ask for help or advice whenever you think you need it - people here like to help.

  2. Congratulations Sawgrass. The engine number according to the table in the reference section on Team Buick's site shows this to be a 1938 engine. Go to Team Buick Team Buick and register (free), then scroll down to Buick Restoration and in the Buick Decoding & Identification section post this same cowl tag info and engine and frame numbers. Dave Corbin watches this site from time to time and he can decode your information and provide manufacture dates for the frame and engine to determine if they were born at the same time. Unfortunately there is no such thing as "matching numbers" on automobiles of this vintage, you just have to settle for date appropriate.

Post some photos of your new ride, we love pictures.

  3. I found a source for reproduction knobs amongst the AACA members that you really need to check out if you cannot locate knobs for your car. His business is named Knobsoup, and his name is Keith Lee. I had an excellent experience and can heartily recommend his work, he is an artist. You can contact Keith at <knobsoup@gmail.com> for a brochure.

My car is a '39 Buick, and Keith's brochure talks about knobs for Lincoln Zephyrs, but if he has an original knob to make a casting from and to do a color match with, he can probably handle your job. His pricing is very reasonable and his turn-around time was less than two weeks on my project that included two radio knobs, two heater door knobs, a window winder knob and the light switch knob. If you check the AACA membership list for Keith L. and check some of his posts, you can see additional photos of his work.

  4. Well Grant, congratulations on both counts. I was watching the bids and suspecting you were in the mix somewhere. Sorry it didn't turn out to be "as advertised", just good that you aren't being held to the bid. Better luck on the next one.

  5. This may not be much help, but I believe Multibeam fits Pontiac, Buick, Cadillac and LaSalle from at least 1934 up through 1939 and Olds from at least 34 through 38.

Jon37, thanks for the input. I know Multibeam lenses were on Buicks through '39, but most of the ones that late had patent numbers. Since this one has no numbers I am thinking it was more mid 30's than late 30's. Just a guess!

If there is no action on this in the next few days I will list on ebay.

  6. For Sale: Left side headlight lens. Wording at top of lens says:

    TOP

    LEFT

    and at the bottom says:

    MULTIBEAM

    HEADLAMP

    GUIDE

PAT'D MADE IN USA PAT. PEND.

Lens measures 7 3/8 inches top to bottom and 7 1/2 inches side to side. There are no numbers on the lens, and I assume it is for a mid '30's car. Very good used condition.

$45 + shipping. I will accept PayPal or check. Provide your zip code and I will quote shipping.

    Thanks,

    John

  7. Pete,

My '39 Business Coupe has a space of about an inch both at the front and rear of the runningboards. Bear in mind the rear of my originals are pretty ragged, but the fronts are rolled over and very finished looking, so I am sure that is the original look.
