  1. Snow? Here in Perth, Western Australia temps have been around the 38C (100F) all week. Overnight lows 20C (70F). Hot!! Sitting under the air-con all morning, a swim in the pool in the afternoon, beer and cocktails in the evening after a barbeque. Enjoy your white christmas and new year on the other side of the world. All the best, Rick
  2. Phil, if your local shop or buick5563 are unable to help, "Restoration Specialties & Supply, Inc" have a good range to choose from. I found them reasonably priced and have most types in their online catalogue with good descriptions. I believe the correct finish for these should be nickel plate. My '62 uses 3 different types of durable dots, all available from their site at around $1 each. Rick
  3. Thanks for the replies. My parts book is up to '63 so some numbers will have been superceded. I am satisfied with the Motors Manual reference as it shows the model numbers that I have here. Always handy to have a spare, especially as Buicks of 61-62 vintage are few and far between here in Australia. Cheers Rick
  4. I have rebuilt my 62 starter motor model 1107221. I also have a spare from a 61. It is stamped 1107876. Will this be OK to use on the 62? It looks the same, checking parts book numbers show the 61 should be 1107230? I believe a change was made during the 61 production, CARS Inc show different starter drives but the parts book shows no change? All individual numbers for the breakdown parts match for 61-62, armature, coils, end frames etc. The only obvious difference is that the main frame has a screw mount for the starter cable clip on the 62, easy to drill and tap. I cannot find reference to model 1107876 anywhere.
  5. Thanks for the replies. I did think the starter would look a bit strange with a red end plate and preferred all black but could not work out why the difference. A previous rebuilder is likely the answer. Now painted black.
  6. After cleaning my 62 Electra starter motor I found the end plate was painted red. It looks like the body undercoat but am not sure. It had been overcoated black. Should it be red or black? This colour is only on the end plate as if it was coated seperately and it appears to be from factory.
  7. Hi, I am looking for a few parts, are you willing to post to Australia? Need one set E.L.E.C.T.R.A. letters from rear quarter, complete front number plate bracket attaches to front bumper, LH front door hinge dust cover plate with the cutout to view the body VIN, the indicator lever plastic knob (not cracked or split, prefer red) and the plastic clips that secure the engine wiring harness to the inner fenders (at least 2). If you can help with any of these items I can be contacted at rbe78120@bigpond.net.au Thanks, Rick
  8. Further to your question regarding the sump differences: rear sump 401 is 59-61 (same from 57), in 62 the engine was moved forward 4" and used a mid sump, same at least to 63, but possibly to 66 as the oil pump fits these years. The oil pumps do not interchange (I am going through this issue at the moment) unless you redrill the mounting holes and modify the rear main bearing cap. The later oil pumps are a much lower profile to fit the shallow end of the sump.
  9. Bought one from JC Auto Restoration, Inc. A Mopar specialist but has the correct heater valves for Buick. Can purchase outright or exchange. They have a website www.jcauto.com
  10. For your information, this core fits (at least) 59-62 all full size Buicks and 59-60 Chevrolet. I am also searching for one to suit my 62 Electra. This seems to be the only Chev core that is not reproduced! At least with this knowledge you can widen your search. If you manage to locate someone who makes these please let me know. Part # 3144756.
  11. Hey, I think I may have a photo attachment? See if it works. Photo looking towards the rear of the car showing the position of my "mystery" seal. Fingers crossed.
  12. Hi Dave, tried looking for Hydro-lectric. Is this hydroe.com? If so they do not supply anything like the parts I am after. I tried to upload a photo but have not worked out how to get the image size small enough to send. Your very nice Olds will have them, I think they are covered by the top boot when the top is lowered. With such low mileage yours have probably never been touched! Unfortunately all I have is some metal plate and hard/ brittle rubber, mostly missing. Will keep trying with the photo attachments.
  13. Hi, Thanks for the replies. This is for the rear side windows (parts books call them 1/4 windows). It is the small L shaped weatherstrip seal approx 3"x2 1/2" that seals the rear of the window to the beltrail inside the car. I think without it there will be a small gap between the window and the convertible top and water etc will leak through this gap into the hydraulics compartments. I don't believe that it is very visible when fitted. Steele Rubber has #70-2048-67 which is a similar part for 67/68 GM convertibles and might be adaptable (it is slightly larger).
  14. Hi, first newbie question. I am restoring a 62 Electra convertible. I need to replace the weatherstrip seal to the rear of the 1/4 windows (opposite of the U-jamb seals). These are unavailable part #4813983/984? I have found reproduction ones to suit 67-68 GM convertibles that are of similar sizes. Has anyone tried to fit these to 61-62 models or do I just omit them? Not sure how important they are. I believe that these should fit all full size 61/62 GM convertibles. Has anyone found a preferred way to replace these seals? Thanks for any help. Rick
