  1. Here's a pic of the dashboard as mentioned in my previous post. If anyone has a good original whole guage unit also I'd be interested in obtaining that also.
  2. Thank you Stude 8 again for your help. This will be where I need to go. Oldford, I am interested in the faceplate. i f you could post a pic, I would appreciate it. I am restoring some pictures to my hard drive tonight and I will post a pic of my dashboard as well, so we might be able to match it up. Studepeople, Yes we will be very carefull with the unit as it is all we have, and minimally will need to salvage the unit if anything for its use in getting gas from the tank to the fuel line. We are going to clean it thoroughly and we'll see better what we're dealing with then. Thank you all greatly for your help! Keith
  3. Stude 8. You did answer a thread like this sometime ago and I greatly apologize that I couldn't remember where on the board it was. I appreciate your posting again on this as your experience with this procedure is very valuable for us who are approaching it for the first time. We very much appreciate the help and info you provide. Keith
  4. I am looking for a sending unit as well as the guage/guage parts for a 1928 GE Dictator 6. This would be a white face guage. I know there is a guy on ebay that does the fluid, lines, backing plate, sitre galss, etc. but he doesn't have the mounting parts or guage face and I also may well need a sending usit as mine appears to be shot. The sending unit is also critical as the fuel for the car runs through that sending unit as well. Thanks! Keith
  5. I am looking for a source for the two rubber/fiber disc couplings for the shaft that goes between the water pump and the front of the engine.
  6. Mike, Interesting method. My UX-2 is going to a rebuilder to be looked at. The only crack I can see is on a casting edge where the throat meets the body. There is some minimal cracking there. Otherwise it seems good. Keith
  7. Mike, Actually, now that my car is being worked on, we should absolutely compare notes as I am really getting into tearing the car down now to inspect, repair and replace if necessary and of course reassemble. We haven't gotten to the oil pump yet, but we may be venturing into that arena soon. I have a very competent fellow working with me on this and when we get to this area, I'll let you know. Keith
  8. I have a 1928 1st Series GE Dictator Club Sedan, and the sterring wheel is removed from the post by a series of screws found under the steering wheel (facing the dashboard) that go around the steering post. I have the same problem with mine, in that all the levers are broken off, but I don't know if it ends there as it appears the rods and plate may have been removed as well, and the spark advance wired to one central position so it can't be adjusted. Don't ask but the car ran for at least 25 years that I know of that way.
  9. I am having my car worked on and was suprised to see that my Stromberg UX-2 has a pot metal body. It is being cleaned now to see if there are any problems. If there are, has anyone ventured into making new bodies?
  10. Does anyone have a horn button assembly for a '28 Dictator? I am looking specifically for the for the bakelite center piece as well as the horn button.
  11. Studeboy, Those look like handles from a much later vehicle, like from the 50's. I'll see if I can photograph the remains of those on my '28 Series 1 Club sedan and post. Keith
  12. That's a great idea and one that I will look into. That makes a lot of sense. I assume then that the kingpin is the pin that goes through the axle and has the threads that allow you to bolt the wheel to the top and bottom of it? Sorry if I seem ignorant but i am learning as I go and I greatly appreciate the time and help! Keith
  13. How do front end repairs go about being made? I have the rim off of my GE and just to see, I grabbed the wheel and there is movement both top and bottom and left and right. When I say movement, this is what we call in the Piano inductry "lost motion" movement, meaning the steering wheel does not move when the wheel is pulled. Now that being said. We are talking about probably 1/2 inch of movement any way. So what do restorers/enthusiasts do when you need tie rod ends, the area where the brake backing plate mounts up to the axle, drag link bushings, etc. are their newer vehicle parts that can meet those specs? Do you have to have parts made? Thanks, Keith
  14. Didn't I just readin the Antique Studebaker Club magazine that steve Munts is out of business? I need these handles as well for my '28 GE.
  15. Thanks Virgil, I actually just called Egge and they have a lot of the parts I would need to rebuild the motor, including pistons, rings, timing chain, valves, valve guides and gaskets. Now if I could find a reputable rebuilder near me that can do babbit work, I'd be in business! Thanks! Keith
  16. I had no idea they had such a history. It is so horrible when so many employees are out of work. Very unfortunate!
  17. I actually got an email back from the Museum Archives and they said they don;t have anything prior to 1936. Oh well. Would have been nice to put it in perspective. Thanks! Keith
  18. Hi Virgil, I may need to do some motor work on my '28 Dictator and was wondeing where you got the new timing chain and/or other motor parts? Thanks! Keith
  19. Thanks Stude 8!! I will attempt this again. The tires that are on the car now are probably about 40-50 year old Goodyears. I looked for the Denham tires you mentioned because of your good report and they look real good, but I understand Denham is closed now having filed bankruptcy, so I guess I have to settle for Goodrichs now. I just noticed while I have the rims off the wheels, is that the tie rod ends appear a little loose and so is what I guess is the ball joints ( I don't know what they call the area that mounts the brake backing and spindle to the front axle). What do we use for replacements for that stuff? Is there a truck tie rod end or something that can be used as a replacement? Thanks again!! I greatly appreciate your help. I am learning a lot through this and really appreciate your knowledge and help! Keith
  20. I am in the process of changing tubes on two of my wheels on my '28 GEF. I wanted to ask Stude 8 (as you have had experience with this) once the rim is off the wheel, I noticed that the inside of the rim has the "devil back" interlock like your Kelseys (possibly mine are Kelsey's as well). My question is, which way is the rim prone to go once it is out of interlock? Will it spring inward or will it want to spring outward? I just want to be prepared either way so there are no projectile injuries or unwanted holes made in the garage roof Thanks!! Keith
  21. Now Im wondering, what the production numbers were for each body model. Like i have a GEF (Dictator 6 Coach) and mine is the 2,342nd one built of it's kind. How many were built in '28? Does anyone have that data? It would be interestibng to see how many of each body designation was built and where ours was in the run. Keith
  22. Thanks Terry! Yep, thats it. A first series Club Sedan. Keith
  23. I am very interested!! Please email me the particulars at wurli1@verizon.net. I have a '28 Dictator GEF. THanks! Keith
