Wow - gotta say, Buicks from the '30s are growing on me and if I had a place to keep it, I'd be considering this one!
The photos in the ad are 7 years old so no telling what it looks like now... -
Hello all,
My '41 SSE was converted to 12V by the previous owner. For some reason, there's a whole bunch of wires (9, including battery cable) going to the terminals on the solenoid. I've not traced them all out yet, but it seems like this could be consolidated to some degree.
If anyone has photos of what this could/should look like, I'd sure appreciate seeing them. I'll get some photos of what mine looks like this evening.
I think my next task will be bringing this back to 6V. I can live without the hidden CD player in the glovebox. Thanks in advance!

I looked up that patent number and discovered it was submitted by two gentlemen in Chicago in 1937, one of whom founded Midland Tire & Rubber (retreaded tires) as well as a big auto-parts store in Chicago that only closed just recently. Doesn't appear to be tied to GM, etc.

Interesting. I wonder why they're so different.

Thank you - this is immensely helpful!
I see mine is also missing the grommet on the firewall that rod passes through.
@neil - I will take photos of the cowl in the next day or two and share with you.
Thanks again!

Hello all,
What actuates the air duct valve on the firewall (passenger side) - is it a control cable, or a rod of some sort?
Mine is missing - I have the intact temperature control panel under the glovebox, and the valve on the firewall, but they are not connected.

Drag, I missed it!

There have been a few carpet sets showing up on eBay (Ben's Auto Parts), and I was considering a carpet set for my '41 to replace my rubber mat. Other more important tasks to do meant that I didn't buy it, so I can't speak for quality/transaction, etc., but it might be worth looking into as another source.
Thanks for the Jenkins heads-up! -

I took the Special out this weekend due to the good weather, thought I'd work on a few small issues which ended up with me working on it rather than driving it all that much.

Thanks Grandpa. That piece is in place on my firewall. Is there another one that connects the other side of the air duct? There's an opening just to the right (passenger side) of the radiator where I assume the duct would lead, but there's nothing there to clamp it on to.
Thanks for the pic - I have been wondering what the clamps are supposed to look like.Much appreciated!

Hi all,
Is there a coupling or flange of some sort that connects the under-hood passenger-side air duct to the cowl around the radiator? There's just an open, 2 1/2" hole on mine, whereas the coupling/flange on the driver's side is present (connects to air cleaner).Just wondering, before I make up a piece for it.
Thanks! -
I logged on to catch up on this thread right when my radio started playing Wayne Hancock's song 'Thunderstorms and Neon Signs'. Inspiring. I'm gonna make this trip myself someday.

Beautiful car! Are those artillery wheels or just a cool striping job?

Hey, when you get to Chicago and if you have some time before turning around to head back, there's an old Buick dealership, part of our old Motor Row, at 1454 S. Michigan, just a mile south of the 66 terminus.
Might be a cool photo op!- 1

I had a '54 Chrysler New Yorker that was running Martins. I bought it from the second owner who said that how how he bought it . They were the widest whitewalls I'd ever seen. They looked awesome on the car; I should have kept them.

I second the others - replace all the lines. I have used Inline Tube in the past with good results, including fabrication of original lines that I sent them as templates. In fact, they may have a complete set ready to install.

Brought out the '41 this past weekend to show off as part of an city-wide architecture tour. I was a tour guide and parked it in front of the building I was working at (a restored '20s ballroom) to add to the excitement. Hopefully the weather holds out this weekend too.

Thank you very much! I'm going to test the clock to see if it's functioning and will contact YnZ too.

'41 model 46SSE. The clock is in the glovebox door itself.

It was a dreary, foggy/misty Saturday here, but I drove the '41 to a vintage rock and roll show I was playing in and parked it right out in front. We filled the house, and I like to think that it was all 'cause of the car! There are a few more events coming up I hope to bring it to if the weather holds out.

The wiring to the clock in the glove compartment door was thoughtfully removed by a previous owner and I'm trying to figure out how to route a new harness.
Google's not showing up much and I'm sans manual at the moment, so if any of you folks could post a photo of what it's supposed to look like, I'd be most appreciative!
Thanks!
1941 Buick Fuel Pump .. Experience with My Classic Car Trader?
in Buick - Pre War

He rebuilt a water pump for me a few years ago - quick and reasonable. I also inquired about fuel pump rebuilding and he instead was able to diagnose my fuel delivery problem without rebuilding the pump!
