  1. Should have a Ancestry.com approach with certain cross reference search engines that compile likely matches, then you could pick through the "most likely"

This needs to be done as a business approach rather than the hobby approach to be successful. By that I mean you need professional site builders who can engineer the engines and a national advertising program to get the database started to a level that would work.

I like the idea and applaud the effort to try....but as said before it really is a needle in a hay stack endeavor.

  2. I came across this a while back.....I posted this with the link but its long expired.

1955 Buick Special. 4 Door. Less than 10,000 actual miles on body. No rust through spots except under passenger side door. All chrome pieces intact except 1 side strip piece broken. Lots need rechromed. Glass intact except for BB hole in passenger side rear window. NO DENTS except for Dent on roof from a tree branch. And fist dent on hood when engine blew up in 1971. Lots of pictures on request. Originally belonged to Zumwalt family in Warrensburg, MO who purchased it new in 1954. The owner purchased it and passed shortly thereafter and his wife didn’t drive. The car had been garaged for several years when I purchased it. I put about 2,000 miles on it or less and the engine threw a rod through the block. Asking 5,000 call 660 238-1060. If this doesn’t work out, I will part outon eBay.

It made me laugh...no rust through but there is some, All Chrome but some is missing, Glass intact but has a hole, NO Dents! but the roof is crushed.

10K on a Body? Hunh? what, did the car get a new body at some point then blew the high mileage engine? It was garaged all those years and looks like this?

No motor, has rust through, has dents(Crushed Roof FGS!), has broken glass, missing trim..all could be yours for the great low price of 5k!

Oh did I mention that it originally belonged to Zumwalt family in Warrensburg?

  3. Things change...I'm remined of a poster I saw a while back:

    a-couple-of-hours-ago-there-are-no-athiests-in-foxholes-demotivational-poster-1256699202.jpg

I am unfortunately equipped with the attention span of the common house fly so changing your mind just once on something means to me your waaay ahead of the game.

Keep moving forward, guys like you push me.

  4. Just got off the phone with this guy...I have an unlisted, proxy protected, Internet phone I can use.

First off this guy is barely able to communicate, seemed either extremely dim or just out of it. I started asking questions about the car, he basically repeated the add. I asked him if the car in the picture was his and he said yes.....I then let him have it. Strange he did stay on the line, he kept saying that car he has looks exactly the same with the same rust spots....he was trying to still sell me FGS!!!! I believe he does have a Buick to sell...just not that exact Buick in the picture....obviously:rolleyes:

To be honest I think this was just some lazy intellectual peasant who looked up a picture that looked the same and used it. Google image really does spawn this activity because it's so easy.

I reminded him of all the laws that he is breaking and that the Feds will pay a visit (yea right ) and that if not taken down I will call tomorrow....(I do have the ability to spam his phone automatically hehehe, I know I know...not worth it but I just like to think big)

Not a scam as we typically think of one but a scam none the less....man its one thing to rip a pic of someones wife and use it but to use one with your car?????

......hmmmmm did I get that last one backwards :P

  5. So, what did you pay for the )@(%*@$) thing? I would say anything under $150 and you did fine. For an upper grille bar under $150, one should expect to have to get it replated.

    Pete Phillips, BCA #7338

You saying that the upper bumper I'm getting needs a re-plate then?:(:P:D

Truth be told, I would not expect pitting like that from an NOS.....good lesson/reminder for all>>>>Never buy without good pictures!

  6. I think this is a case of maybe the seller hyped it while the buyer over hoped it....

lets face it...finding these parts in this condition is rare, maybe you just wanted it to be the way you hoped so bad and assumed it would be as good or better than he said?

It clearly says to me "Driver" condition...meaning to me it has blemishes including some pits. It should take a a nice plate for a "Show Car" with minimal work, which again is what I took from the seller.

As said already, it is really subjective when describing this stuff. To me it looks great....I would put that on my car until I had the money to re-plate it, but then again I don't know what you paid for it.

  7. Suzanne doesn't much care for the name because carmine is red. She has come to grudgingly accept it though, possibly because we haven't come up with anything better.

Just try and name an old Buick "Shelby"...see what grief you get

Yes there is a back story and it has nothing to do with Carl Shelby and his amazing cars.

  8. Derek

Maybe he has one as well for sale and just found a picture of yours to post in his ad, since he may not have any pictures of his car or a camera.

You never know, but this has happened to me a few times as well with the 55 Roadmaster.

    Steve

Even if that is the case it should indicate that the picture is of another car. He may have one to sell as well but using a pic of another car without informing the buying public is fraud to me.
