"Might as well" is a powerful force, its hard to see it in real time but there comes a time when you realize you may be chasing something you dont need or even want.

It was meant to be used....finally found a home!
As to a previous statement about parts availability, I continue to be happily surprised how many parts are so available for my 54. My parts guy at a local shop loves when I walk in...he gets to look for interesting things but really they end up too easy most of the time.

It just goes to show that no matter what...your neighbors weather is always greener...errrr better.
Bahh...at least if you don't like the weather around here all you have to do is wait 15 minutes.
This weekend coming I would say is a good one for all typically, lets all get out and enjoy it in our Buick's! Make sure to take pics and post em like wildcat did.

When handling a sale always say that you can come by or someone you know can, if he says no then no sale.
If he says yes, another step to prove he has it is ask for a picture with the item and a current newspaper cover in it showing the date, if he says no then no sale.
Always be clear you want tracking and pay by paypal, or money order/bank draft. That way you can prove you paid and he cashed it and you can prove it it was sent or not.
One has to be vigilant these days, an honest seller would do this for you...especially if it is a high dollar item.

Up here we have 5 seasons:
1-nice temped weather where you can enjoy the outdoors. =1 week
2-Blazing hot humid and mosquito filled days and nights =1 month
3-Tollerable weather where its cold and you should not wear shorts but you do anyways cause you are wearing socks with your sandals and winter is comming and you want to push the season 1 month
4-Really cold weather where you dress up but still try to enjoy your patio, BBQ and driving with your windows down but the heat on full=1 month
5-The rest is waiting for options 1-2-3-4 to come back

Stevo is too nice to say but I have a confession, the dammed glass broke in the box!!
I must have not packed it as good as I thought I did, hard to ship a hunk of metal and a beer glass in the same box I guess.

I recently checked, NAPA has all of the parts.
I was shocked one day when I went to NAPA looking for bleed screws with the nipple on them...out walks the guy with a brand new cylinder for my Buick just to have a reference to find the right screw. He had all 4 correct cylinders in stock all for $70 with the wanted bleed screws, I bought them all and ran home. Since then I go there first for everything...then start elsewhere. They guy just loves hunting for these parts for me, I have him building a front end complete rebuild kit for me.
This may not be as easy for you pre-war guys and won't help the non NA guys but certainly is an easy first check option..

I was going to suggest you could always give him a slightly high dollar price and if it sells, you can use the MrEarl Buick locating service and find another Buick. I bet you would end up with a nice 1954 Buick that way. (I did!)
Saving every 54 he can along the way....
You see he figured out a while back that he can not buy them all himself so he started his own 1954 Buick match making service. I have been the beneficiary of 2 54 Roadmasters from this program.

If it is like the 54 it was all black...it was added after the engine was tested and sprayed. MrEarl did a very nice summary over at 54B where all the engine bay was summarized. It is for 54 mind you but I would assume most if not all would be similar:
The information I am providing below comes from personal, close and careful observation of the engine bay area of three of my own low mileage 54's (Buttercup 72R w/13K miles, BlueBird 41D w/26Kmiles and DoraB 76R w78K miles) as well as observations of other mostly original 54's I own or have owned. I have not used here say or speculation unless noted. The info is what I have seen with my own two eyes. I have used engine degreaser when necessary to carefully remove built up grease which actually helped protect the original color. **Add to the list above a 46R with 63K miles
So to cover your immediate questions first
1 Fuel and vacuum lines (incl. PB vac line) that run over top of the engine- No Paint ** Revise to Also Painted. A recently acquired 60K mile 46R definitely has paint on some of these lines. Possibly a poor masking job or perhaps that plant didn't mask.(Speculation)
2 Pulleys - Generator, Water pump, Power Steering, - *No Paint (cad)
3 Harmonic Balancer - No Paint ** Revise to Buick Green paint. A trace of paint was found on the rear of one of my low mile originals. Speculation - Apparently this un-primed metal does not hold paint well
4 Any bolts on the engine that are not green? I don't have this info but will try to determine. I suspect some of the bolts that hold some brackets on will be no paint.
5 Accessory mount brackets? Power steering main mount bracket and the 8 inch angle iron brace that bolts to the engine. Buick Green
6 Power steering pump - Black * The correct decal wording for the top of the pump is " FILL TO LEVEL WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID TYPE "A".
7 Upper generator bracket, flat iron with elongated adjust slot- Black
8 Engine mount brackets (including the generator mount bracket - Green **The flat triangular brace piece with three holes from this engine mount to the engine block - No Paint
9 Fuel/vacuum pump - I have never seen a factory installed fuel pump so must say that all mine are unpainted. However since the pump and lines were supposedly installed prior to painting and testing it would stand that the pump would likely have Buick Green overspray.
10 Power brake vacuum pump - Black
11 Exhaust manifold...how far back would you paint or at all? Personal preference I suppose but I'd paint the manifold and exhaust pipe incl crossover.
12 Wire loom - bolts to top of rocker cover - Green; Rubber insert - No Paint (however probably received paint when engine was painted and the black rubber did not paint well)
13 Rocker cover and spark plug cover bolts - Green
14 Timing indicator with timing marks- I have seen these painted engine green with no paint on the brass ends with unpainted groove marks * and also black with yellow painted groove marks.
15 Valley Cover - Green except under middle of manifold where there is either no paint or light over spray at most
16 Blow by tube- Black
17 Oil Dip Stick - No paint on most, overspray paint on some
18 Transmission Dip Stick - No Paint
19 Transmission Dip Stick tube - It appear these may have been painted black but with out primer and the black paint soon bakes and flakes off.
20 Transmission Dip Stick tube bracket/holder (secures to back of block) No paint
21 Coil Bracket- No Paint
22 Dash Pot bracket - No Paint
23 Carb spring bracket - No paint Revise this to paint. I removed this part and found engine paint around the outside area of the bolt. I suspect the paint disintergrated due to heat of the engine
24 Distributor - the bottom third of the distributor got over sprayed with Green, upper is factory black
25 Starter - Green Starter Solenoid - Black (masked during painting of engine
26 Fan Blade - black. Bolts- no paint
Here is a pic of a very correct engine bay. Note the PS pump and bracket...again take it for what it is worth as this is all 54.

We had a great night...too bad there was no "Great" in Great Gatsby.
Harriet did well there and back and drew quite the crowd, they were amazed at the original state she was in. I take it for granted I guess cause up here NOTHING is original.
There were some beautiful cars there but a much smaller attendance than I expected. Only 2 other Buick's, a nice Skylark and a Grand National.
Over all I had a real nice time...this was something I have wanted to do and have thought about for a long time, even before I bought my first Roadmaster 4 years ago. To have that experience actually happen has me on could 9.

How about a 17 year old driving over 2000 miles with deteriorating A/C (work needed) with her 15 year old brother as a navigator? I'm proud of my daughter.
On top of that, this was a great bonding experience in terms of spending time together and in terms of planning our Buickful future. Luke wants to drive to Allentown...he'll be 18 then. Springfield may not happen for them due to the June dates. Portland is likely to be a tow job (and no, not for a concours trailer queen).
Bang on my friend. It started with me when I traveled all over the local land with my Dad at un-Godly hours just so I could get some ice time and play Hockey. Now we can share those experiences with another shared experience.
Its in the end what this hobby is all about, shared experiences....with Dad and family. I could think of nothing better. Cars are just the vehicle to make it happen.
