  1. Does anyone have information on the burgundy paint used on 1939 Zephyrs? I found a burgundy used on a 1964 mustang that looks very similar to the magazine ads, the paint chips at the paint store are really hard to visualize. Thanks

  2. Can someone explain what keeps the oil in the transmission, I installed a new seal up front and new rear mount with new gaskets, cannot find any rear seal on any parts lists or diagrams. When I look into the rear of the transmission I still see part of the main rear bearing, however slight. Not sure if 190 weight oil in the transmission and 600 weight in the clam shell will keep from mixing.

    Thanks

  3. Just want to be sure before I bolt the trany and motor to install, does the transmission oil stay in by the use of the rear motor mount which is tightened down with the four bolts. I have installed a new rear transmission mount along with new gasket on both sides, now I new to know how the universal joint is lubricated. Does the grease from the clam shell path through to the uni joint and does the transmission oil stay in the transmission via the gaskets and rear mount. Hope to install the motor soon and start it up

    Again, Thanks in advance

  4. Seal was different, purchased it from Boos-Herrel and found two mechanics who both confirmed the tech article from continental comments, the pressure side pushes down on the seal and should hold back the oil. This is one operation I would not look forward to redoing. All this started when the oil float came out of it's pan guide and started knocking on the crankshaft, decide to pull the engine to repair it and while doing this found a lot of problems. Some of the gaskets on the transmission were missing so I was able to get new ones and will install. Also had to rebuild the transmision mount, it was toast. The new one looks really good. So hopefully in a couple of weeks should have the engine back in and running.

    Thanks to everyone

  5. Excellent discription, I went back again to look at it and most of the corrosion is on the lower side, did notice some carbon in one of the half inch holes and now I will check for leakage between the two chambers. If all looks good I will probably wire brush the area and try the patch method as it is minor and may delay any further corrosion. Once that is done will probably be on the lookout for a standby manifold. I really appreciate all the assistance and would be lost without this forum.

    Thanks to all

  6. Back again for help, When I replace the rear tranny seal does the sharp point of the seal face towards the inside of the transmission, Continental Comments issue 104 mentions it that way. Also will I run into unknown problems or is it straight forward. Again I really thank you all for the assistance, I would be lost without the forum. Thanks

  7. Does anyone know of somebody who makes up the interior uphosltery package, Called EZ Boy and LeBaron Bonney was told they do not have the pattern. Seems anything before 1940 suppliers do not service much, keepingn my fingers crossed.

    Thanks

  8. To remove the distributor cap just move the wire clip down to lower position,it stays on by itself and you should be able to pull the distributor cap straight off. I believe they only have three bolts holding it on as they are somewhat triangular. After that the distributor should just come out by pulling forward it has a keyway on the rear of the shaft behind it, that I would mark to make sure it goes in the same way. I recall years ago having one heck of a time getting my new engine to run, it only backfired and would do nothing until I removed the distributor and re installed it. Hope this helps not sure , but more senior members can correct me if it's wrong

  9. Thanks, went looking for some kind of pin and found one that worked, threads half way and smooth on the pivot that seats in the window. Would not have known because I took it apart 25 years ago, but allways kept the nuts and bolts that were removed over the years. Hope to have it back on the road soon. I've had it for 40 years and now my son want's it,kinda cool I think.

Thanks again for all the help

  10. Can anyone explain how the rear vent window goes together. I have the rubber gasket and the window has one peg for the botton as well as the window lock mechanism. Not sure if I'm missing parts or what. Or possibly a good place to look at parts. I have downloaded both Narrangsett and Boos

Thanks again hopefully I will be able to help someone in the future as I am learning a few things

  11. The little indicator disc is actually threaded on the end of the wire/rod.

Thanks Peecher, this ring is attached lower down on the wire rod and sits just below the intake manifold. Mesured the distance from the top of the oil float and it was 15 inches, just want to make sure it was at the correct level. One more question where would you hook up to the engine when I lift it, want to change some tranny seals while I'm at it.

    Thanks again

  12. Seems my oil float came out of it's quide and hit the crank while running. the oil was at the correct level and now I have to remove the pan or lift the engine out to repair it properly. Just want to make sure I don't miss something. There is a small brass ring on the wire going up, I would have thought this would have kept it from going over the quide. Anyway it's not badly damaged, still floats.

    Thanks Again for your help

  13. Thanks Phil, checked out your photos, you should be proud,a nice restoration. I was particular interested in the number or wires going to the front headlight. Not sure if you would bring one wire to each headlight for both high and low beam, or would you splice up at the first headlight and then go to the second headlight. the wiring diagram shows a splice up front but my photo shows six wires up at the dimmer and also a splice up front. Thanks for the tip on where to get the dimmer switch.
