Painting the waterfall hood trim

Recommended Posts

Hello all! I’m brand new to the forums. I bought an ol 1951 Chieftain Steamliner when I was in high school and restored it to all original while working in a shop. It has now been more than 10 years and I finally brought my car home from the farm. One of the things I want to re-do is the painted grooves on the hood/trunk trim straps. I’m pretty sure we used a stainless steel etching chemical and an epoxy primer before slapping that beautiful Berkshire Green on them. Almost immediately after a few car shows out in the hot sun and a few car washes, the paint started flaky off of the trim. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If the chrome is shiney, sand   with  say 220 just to make it dull. mask, spray with self etch primer, then finish coat. that is how i was told to do chrome which i did on my 63 GP

does this work for stainless steel too ?, the ones pictured should be stainless steel.
