Stromberg O-2 and OS-2 Question

I have an OS-2 Stromberg carb that needs some TLC.  The typical marred screws, etc but the main issue is that the venturi  is missing.  The Stromberg O-2 appears to be more readily available and wondered if it is possible to take parts from the O-2 and use on the OS-2?  Are some of the parts interchangeable even though one is an updraft and the other side draft?  Also, is there a schematic/technical information that anyone can share showing where there are gaskets in the OS-2 and how to properly set the idle and valve/seat?

thanks

"Are some of the parts interchangeable even though one is an updraft and the other side draft?"

Yes, SOME are, including the main venturi, but not the booster venturi.

Schematic - no

Tech info - yes - http://www.thecarburetorshop.com/Carbshop_lit-Stromberg.htm

Idle - see above answer

Fuel valve - no

Additional information - the fuel level in the bowl should be 1/8 inch below the top of the main discharge nozzle when the fuel valve is shut off and the carburetor is level.

As to the venturii: If you have done fewer than 25 or so of these carbs, you have a better chance of winning an argument with the IRS than carefully removing either the booster or main venturi. If you HAVE done 25 or more of these carbs, you learned long ago that the attempt to remove either venturi in one piece is totally futile, and you break the *&^%$# thing out and machine a new one (to the correct ID for your vehicle, there are 5 different sizes) on your lathe! ;)

Mitchell20;

Kissel Model 6-45 and 6-55 engines use Stromberg OS-2 carbs.

Kissel owner's manuals have practical Stromberg adjustment directions and these are often found on ebay.

Also often on ebay are old manuals entitled "Stromberg O-Series Carburetors" which also give tuning instructions.

Tuning Stromberg OS-2's is relatively easy after that.

Note - The interior flow equalizer of an OS-2 is made originally of pot metal, and, as mentioned above, often deteriorates. That's the fuel entry tube with holes. I've had success just machining new ones from brass. If you don't, it may work sporatically but poop out when its most embarrassing.

Thanks, RON
