Hi all,

I purchased an 82 convert that had the original v6 removed and what I believe to be a 307 installed,  it wasn't running, most of the original v6 wiring is trashed, the electrical running lights and other systems functions fine. I got the 307 running by jumping the a and c wires on the dist as the spark knock systems wiring is gone,  My question is I'm going to just run a Qjet and HEI non comp, non spark knock.  I'm talking carb with vac advance and pcv, and single wire HEI, any suggestions on year and size Qjet and best year HEI?  Oh and timing with a vacuum HEI.  It is a stunning car the guy I got it from couldn't figure out why it wouldn't start  (he traded for it) and gave up on it, I got it for 750!  Took me under ten min to get it running.  I'm in a state where it doesn't fall under emissions because of it's age.

Thanks

Converting Olds motors from CCC to conventional is easy.  Simply install a non-CCC Qjet and a HEI distributor with a vacuum advance.  Try about 16 deg initial timing for start, then fine tune to what the car wants.  Run the vacuum advance from manifold vacuum, not ported, to avoid overheating issues, or use a thermo-vacuum switch if you prefer ported.

The Qjet used on the 307 actually has the secondary air valves limited to only 70 degrees of opening angle to limit total airflow through the carb.  You can use pretty much any 1968-1974 Qjet and tweak the secondary air valve opening spring to limit the carb to what the engine needs.  The Qjet is VERY forgiving.
